Shock: Jeb Bush Says Two Things Which Are Vaguely Conservative

Maybe his plan to run against conservatives in a Republican primary isn't working amazeballs like he expected.

Jeb: The climate is changing, but those who claim that the debate is over are "intellectually arrogant."

Earlier Wednesday, Obama warned in a commencement speech to the U.S. Coast Guard Academy that climate change "constitutes a serious threat to global security (and) an immediate risk to our national security."

Shaking his head as the host of the house party, Richard Ashooh, quoted Obama's remarks, Bush chided the President for taking what he argued was the wrong path in addressing the problem.

[article's paragraphs re-arranged into actual chronological order -- ace]

"For the people to say the science is decided on this is really arrogant, to be honest with you," he continued. "It's this intellectual arrogance that now you can't have a conversation about it, even. The climate is changing. We need to adapt to that reality."

"The President's approach is, effectively, reduce economic activity to lower our carbon footprint," he said. "That's not what he says, of course, but that's the result of his policies."

Rather than focusing on carbon emissions, Bush said, the federal government should provide more incentives for lower carbon-producing forms of energy, like hydraulic fracking and horizontal drilling.

"I don't think it's the highest priority. I don't think we should ignore it, either," Bush said of climate change. "Just generally I think as conservatives we should embrace innovation, embrace technology, embrace science. ... Sometimes I sense that we pull back from the embrace of these things. We shouldn't."

Then he said Republicans had spent too much when his brother was president.

Jeb Bush kind of bores me so I've modified this article to make it more "street."

Jeb Bush Faults Brother for Lack of Budget Discipline 'N Shit

CONCORD, N.H. -- As Jeb Bush has faced questions over Iraq and the policies of his brother throughout recent days, he got all TURNT!, son!, on one difference between them: curtailing spending.

"I think that, in Washington during my brother's time, you know, he served his nickel there, plus three more, Republicans spent too many Benjamins," Mr. Bush said Thursday when asked to describe where there was a "big space" between himself and his brotherman. "I think he could have used the veto powizzo, put a jimmie on that shit. He didn’t have line-item veto power, but he could have brought budget discipline to Washington, D.C. Instead, he got all krunk.

...

He did qualify that his criticism of the government spending during his brother's tenure as president “seems kind of quizzaint right now given the fazzact that after he left, the budget and deficits and spending went up astronomizzically, knahmean?”

In the second link, there's a video of Joe Scarborough, the sad establishment clown, confessing that not a single Republican is passionate about Jeb Bush, and David Frum says Jeb just can't win.

This is because while Republicans are idiots, they are not idiots in the "Obama-Is-The-Light-Bringer" way that Democrats, cult followers, and other easily-manipulated pigeons are.

I have been lied to too many times. I know what Jeb will do if he is President. He will try to get along with the democrats. Try to make deals, try to find a compromise between Marx and Adam Smith. 60 "Just generally I think as conservatives we should embrace innovation, embrace technology, embrace science. ... Sometimes I sense that we pull back from the embrace of these things. We shouldn't."

I don't think we pull back from science (and certainly not from technology or innovation), but I would love to see someone articulate the science behind the conservative point of view.

Technology and innovation are stifled in a regulatory environment that the democrats would embrace. What we don't need to do is throw a bunch of government money at tech that hasn't proven itself. THAT is a conservative position. But creating an environment in which people can innovate, create and make a better world for all of is a very libertarian/conservative point of view.

Now if we can just get the right person to articulate all of this and somehow get it to the people, and bypass the media, than we will be cooking.

103 Why would an LIV vote for Dem Lite when he can have Dem Original?
***
I think its a slightly different problem then that.

The media will make the Dem candidate seem like the better person. So if you have a Dem and a Rep running on basically the same platform of ideas - like in '08 or '12 the LIVs have *no* reason to vote for the Rep.

However if you go out there an campaign on the ideological differences you have with the left then the LIVs have to consider, to the extent they think about it, whose policies they like better. This is hard, but almost invariably they prefer conservative ideas if someone bothers to make the case for them.

Go after conservatives / libertarians (small l) / small government types. They make up a large number of Republican primary voters, as well as a large number of reliable Independent voters.

The LIVs will hop on the bandwagon. Or they won't. But we can't design campaigns around them. They're unreliable and by definition low information (thus, not informed. They end up voting based on stupid shit, like who sounds presidential.)

Technology and innovation are stifled in a regulatory environment

conservative position. But creating an environment in which people can
innovate, create and make a better world for all of is a very
libertarian/conservative point of view.

Now if we can just get the right person to articulate all of this
and somehow get it to the people, and bypass the media, than we will be
cooking.

Here is my modest proposal for Republicans to support science and technology. In states with Republican Governors and Legislatures, take control of the state universities. Close down all the "studies" programs and cut back seriously on the liberal arts programs that have been taken over by communists, radical lesbians and social justice warriors. Transfer the funds from those programs into STEM departments.

Well, I feel that the overt cruelty is a feature, not a bug but the purpose is not specifically to be cruel but to change the culture of state universities from one that is dominated by extreme, insane, otherworldly leftism by getting rid of the departments where that is a requirement. Without so many of them on campus pushing to the left, university campuses might be more like the rest of America.

Of course, that raises the problem of where engineers and scientists in training are going to find women. 'Bout a man named Jeb
A poor mountebank,
Barely faked bein' a reb.
And then one day
He was pawin' at his food,
And up through the crowd came a-rumblin' mood.

Boos that is, fuck off, Texas farts.

Well the base di'nt like that Jeb's a billionaire
The tea folks said "Jeb, get on outta here"
Said, "Calafornee is the place you outta be"
But he went to Ioway and promoted amnesty

Acts of love, that is.
Greencards. Depressed wages.

This was part of the Medicare Prescription Drug, Improvement, and Modernization Act, which appears to have been an overall improvement to how Medicaid works. Even part D itself is a privatization--it can only be used through private insurers and HMOs.

no child left behind?

I would certainly prefer a voucher system--but not a national one--and an end to federal funding of local schools. However, the federal government was already funding, and NCLB required that schools prove they were teaching real subjects or not receive the federal funding they would otherwise receive.

Assuming for the moment that the votes were not there to cut off federal funding to local schools, NCLB was not necessarily a bad law.

exploding national debt?

He didn't do much to change debt increases, but looking at the numbers I don't see much change in the rate. So certainly it was a mistake not to reverse the rate of growth, but I don't think "exploding" is the right adjective. From 2004 to 2007 the rate of increase seems to have been drastically curtailed.

The biggest jump came with TARP, which I've already agreed was his biggest mistake.

"The man's enlarged my mind. He's a poet warrior in the classic sense. I mean sometimes he'll... uh... well, you'll say 'hello' to him, right? And he'll just walk right by you. He won't even notice you. And suddenly he'll grab you, and he'll throw you in a corner, and he'll say, 'Do you know that 'if' is the middle word in life? If you can keep your head when all about you are losing theirs and blaming it on you, if you can trust yourself when all men doubt you'... I mean I'm... no, I can't... I'm a little man, I'm a little man, he's... he's a great man! I should have been a pair of ragged claws scuttling across floors of silent seas..."

That does seem to be what happened with his first Iraq war response. Sounds like he heard "mumble mumble support Iraq war mumble mumble" and responded with a talking point "Hillary supported it too! All the intelligence said we should!"

Which is absolutely true and also was not the question.

Ironic. Happening in the opposite way of what might be expected.

Ace previous criticisms of Rush never led me to believe that Rush would one day give ace a big compliment.

That's why they pimp the RINO's. What they say about conservatives is a lie because anyone even a fraction as conservative as Reagan will win handily. I do not expect a landslide like '80 and '84 because of the indoctrination over the past 30 years. The D's will win their 200 odd electoral votes no matter what. But it will be enough of a margin to declare a mandate if a conservative is the nominee.

That's a question for CAC aka Brandon Finnegan (?) or any of Walker's many fans. I don't think he's carry WI in a presidential election, just like Christie would not carry NJ, and Kasich would probably lose OH, which is at least a swing state. Martinez could probably flip NM, because she has amazingly high approval ratings, but I doubt she'll even run.

384 Stupid fringe nuts may think Jeb can't win. Noise isn't numbers, though, it's just volume. Why do you think virtually every single elected Republican is a "RINO" to the nuts?

Buy a clue: there have never been more conservative Republican leaders in the House and Senate than Boehner and McConnell. And there is no Republican Governor with an eight-year record of conservative accomplishment and success that compares to Jeb Bush, not even close.

It's not these lifelong conservative leaders who are out of step with the party and the country. It's you nutbars. Face it: if you were half as many as you think you are, half as influential, you would be winning all the primaries instead of always whining about the winner.

Why do you think the Tea Party had 60% favorability in 2009 and only 25% now? Because you nuts took it over, hijacked it into your jihad against "RINOs" who are all much better Republicans than you ever were.

GHWB said it best when asked about something Richard Viguerie was pushing: "Look, I'm a conservative - but I'm not a nut about it."

You can wake up and smell the coffee, or stay in your cozy little lunatic fringe circle-jerk and complain that the world just doesn't understand your brilliance. You are the right wing equivalent of carrying a mattress around.
