Huckabee: Pardon My French, But the Iowa Straw Poll Is For the B*rds

Even though Huckabee has a pretty good shot at winning this meaningless thing, he's scorning it as too expensive and too much in service of ruling class interests.

He says the "Washington Ruling Class," but as Ed Morrissey notes, it really serves the Iowa Republican Establishment, which may or may not be a lame, minor league ruling class in the its own right.

I kind of like Huckabee for doing this. And for helping inject the "ruling class" idea into the national consciousness.

Things are really bad. We are being poorly served by our rulers. It is time to begin upsetting applecarts, rocking boats, and turning over moneychangers' tables.

At some point, those who fail to rebel under such conditions deserve their own enslavement.

Don't know why Huck is running except just to 'raise issues' or sell a book or something...but if he will actually call somebody out on something it might be worthwhile. I sure don't want him to win, though.

...

merci. It's very hard to follow tv shows. I struggle with the news, which is much easier -- perfect recording with no ambient noise (wind, street traffic), perfect diction and grammar, plus you can follow the stories visually by the pictures and you also already kind of know what they're talking about, generally, if you read the news.

but tv shows are tough. I'll check it out though.

The Iowa Republican party is worse than the national party. The governor and half the republicans in congress were falling over themselves a few months ago trying to get a gas tax increase passed when prices were low. 10 cents a gallon, passed with the willing assistance of official state democrats and the RINOs. Un-fucking-believable.

72 Huck often spouts what he considers a populist opinion and then, looking puzzled when the People don't back him up, doubles down. I'm thinking Common Core most recently but he has others. You really can't run as a religious populist if you live in the media bubble and you really can't run as a populist unless you are really really feted as the obvious choice.
Maybe Huck is just trying to pimp his return to his Fox show after the primaries. He's nothing if not a Baptist capitalist.

Been my experience that that's not how it works.
The more "conservatives" you have, the more diffused the conservative vote becomes.
The mainstream well funded candidate (Jeb) takes the rest, leaving him a plurality(?).

Shorter, more conservatives will give us Jeb.

103 Huck often spouts what he considers a populist opinion and then, looking puzzled when the People don't back him up, doubles down. I'm thinking Common Core most recently but he has others.

Don't forget that in the "conservatives vs. liberals" war in the Southern Baptist Convention back in the 1980s, the one that the conservatives actually won, Huckabee was on the other side.

When you have a preznit, in the midst of WasWas beheadings daily, China threatening our fighter jets, Iran going nuke, gang and racial wars in our own country, and mixed bedlam coming to inner cities this summer...and Le Baroque I still thinks "climate change" is the main problem the new Coast Guard grads should worry about. Well, we have a problem with reality in the bubble of pharmaceuticals he lives in and the different messages coming out of his office and our military.

In other words, the GOP had better get it right this time (if it is not too late, and it may be).

i don't really struggle with depression. I probably have a low-grade undiagnosed depression which most doctors would leave untreated (because it's minor enough ot just count as a personality trait, not an illness).

It's absolutely f*cking hilarious that the Acela media makes such a big deal of it.

First, it's a fundraiser for the Iowa GOP.

Second, it's got a town fair atmosphere to it.

Third, it's totally rigged by whoever wants to rig it. Again, it's not serious. It's fun.

It's something that third-tier candidates can use to get some notoriety.

The real lesson is that Huck has lost the evangelical support that was supporting him last time. He doesn't want to lower expectations and since he had support last time, if he doesn't do as well, that will be his headline.

139 DANGER .. DANGER .. Danger Will Robinson ...

Andromeda Galaxy is approaching the Milky Way at about 110 kilometres per second (68 mi/s). It has been measured approaching relative to our Sun at around 300 kilometres per second (190 mi/s) as the Sun orbits around the center of our galaxy at a speed of approximately 225 kilometres per second (140 mi/s). This makes Andromeda one of the few blueshifted galaxies that we observe. Andromeda's tangential or side-ways velocity with respect to the Milky Way is relatively much smaller than the approaching velocity and therefore it is expected to directly collide with the Milky Way in about 4 billion years. A likely outcome of the collision is that the galaxies will merge to form a giant elliptical galaxy or perhaps even a large disk galaxy.[16] Such events are frequent among the galaxies in galaxy groups. The fate of the Earth and the Solar System in the event of a collision is currently unknown. Before the galaxies merge, there is a small chance that the Solar System could be ejected from the Milky Way or join M31.

Then some super secret trade bill -- that you'll never see the details of -- is enacted and you and your employees are suddenly competing with millions of impoverished communists. However, it makes your eyes very sensitive to sunlight (not that it should matter to you) and you need to do a little research into dosing, as what is right for someone else may not be right for you. aaannnd... you have to kinda cycle off of it by decreasing doses for a while.

But, it is a natural mood-elevator, probably perfect for a minor case of the fuckits.

Look, sport, I don't like Huckabee very much but dislike the 'Socon' label even more. While it's true that slavery, for example, had economic implications (especially for the South), it's also true that 'radical' prohibitionistswere not motivated by economic concerns. The most radical of them believed black people were the equals of white people. Imagine that.

You know what concerns and motivatesme? The agonizing dismemberment/scalding/cutting/ripping/vaccuuming of infants in the womb, 55 million of them so farand counting. Another concerning thing? The 'Liverpool pathways' and other Peter Singer-inspired euthanasia programs in Europe that are putting thousands of sick and elderly people down like dogs--programs and policies I know are coming our way because influential advocates and promoters of those policies and programs such as Ezekiel Emmanuel tell me straight-up that they're coming our way.

If the Republican Party cannot take a moral stand against evils such as abortion and euthanasia, then what the fuck is it good for? What purpose does it serve?

I'm sure they'll have fond memories of that when they're older.

It looks like Boy Scouts is caving to the Gaystapo and will soon be

accepting openly gay leaders.

I'm wondering how long it will be before they force an end to what minor religious overtones there are to the organization. Our pack says grace before meals which is the extent of our religious observations. It is sure that will be shortly be too controversial to be allowed. Followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.

289 I'm a firm believer in high quality food for whatever ails anyone. 'Real' food is my current mantra. Real food takes time but is worth the effort in taste, smell and nutritional value. Food feeds your brain, too. Lots of salmon and seafood for vitamin D. As much sunshine as possible.

A few supplements too. Calcium, magnesium, zinc. Lift weights, do situps on a slant bench. Feel and look half my age.

293 When I was a kid I wanted to join the boy scouts but the problem was I didn't like any of the dorks in the local scout troop. Bunch of booger eating mamas boys.

I'm not saying ALL boy scouts, just the ones in the troop I would have been a part of.

Ever heard of 'case dependent' memory? Long story short if you're not taking Ritalin during the actual test there's a pretty damn good chance you won't remember shit.

Original studies were with amphetamines, but Ritalin is virtually the same.

296 The thing with Ritalin/Adderall is that they are legal meth given to kids to calm them down in a classroom and not disrupt the normals.

I've never seen any evidence that they aid in learning beyond keeping the kid in their seat and not bouncing off the walls. They concentrate on the chalk board instead of the next stunt they're going to pull.

298 Ritalin is speed when taken by normals. For the true ADHD person, it does the opposite. The fidgeting and "hyper " behavior goes away and it allows the person to really focus on the task at hand. Without the medication, the ADHD person experiences all noises, movements around them and other influences and cannot tune them out like the rest of us.

I asked my son to describe to me in detail the difference he was experiencing without and then with his medication. The ability to focus was a godsend for him.

The other thing that his teachers learned from this was, he would look at a blank spot on a wall when they were lecturing. They thought he was daydreaming, and called him out on it. Turns out, he could recite a twenty minute lecture almost verbatim. They were amazed, and stopped judging him to be "slow" (nobody knows that his IQ is over 145)
