BASE jumper dies after setting parachute on fire

A 73-year-old BASE jumper who died after leaping from an Idaho bridge had set his parachute on fire as part of a stunt, authorities say. A graphic video of the fatal jump, posted to YouTube on Monday, shows someone engulfed in flames and falling from the Perrine Bridge into the Snake River, 500 feet below.

James E. Hickey, of Claremont, California, had apparently planned to ditch the flaming parachute and deploy a second chute in the May 7 stunt. The initial report from the Twin Falls County Sheriff's Office said only that Hickey's parachute deployed too late, and the coroner said Hickey died of blunt-force trauma.

However, I am firmly in the corner of letting the series take over the story arc because, much like George Lucas in Star Wars screenplay writing, Martin has no idea where to go with the books' stroyline right now.

That's correct. They basically got rid of a minor character and put a major character in her place. It works pretty well, from what I've seen so far, and makes sense with the show because it keeps the plot tighter.

Many physicians feel their associations don't represent them or their views.(AMA-Obamacare support).

What will be interesting is when the state of CA requires doctors to assist their patients in killing themselves because to do otherwise would be discriminatory and against the 14th amendment.

we never used to take vacation beyond a quick trip to disneyland....some friends go every year and asked if we wanted to join them....we did and now it's an every two yr trip for us.....it's just so pretty....the beach we stay at is beautiful....drive two miles down is a good place to surf.....great restaurants.....i'm looking for a place to buy live there after my youngest is out of high school....become a hermit in my hut...might have to look into a more remote island though....maui has a pretty high cost of living and i'll have to support myself.

Now I see that BASE is one of those idiot acronyms Ace was talking about yesterday; it stands for the various things from which one can jump: Building, Antenna, Span, and Earth.

131 Soft light is nice. Wouldn't it be amazing if somebody cleaned that painting up, just a little, and it turned out to be a lot brighter? Like they did with the Sistine Chapel and the pictures turned out to be all cartoons and everybody freaked out because they were used to centuries of patina.

Or wouldn't it be interesting if the photographer for the painting, assuming digital, had his camera's ISO set correctly for the light situation the physical painting is in, the white balance set properly, the aperture small enough so it doesn't soften and the shutter speed fast enough so it doesn't wash out, and any artificial light helping the photographer illuminating the painting be expertly applied, and post processing handled correctly so the print matches the painting, but wait, it's not printed, it's transmitted and then received and processed, compressed, and displayed various ways, but wouldn't it be interesting if someone increased tone, just so, tweakity-tweak-tweak, to increase tonal value, say, one or two increments black, middle, and light, like this?
