8 Hillary is a grifter who attends to the emotional impulses of feminists and communists and follows wherever they lead. This way, she ends up being a representative of their aspirations, and they follow along, eating the crumbs that drop from her table. She wants their emotions and money. They want the power and the ride.

9 Updated NASA satellite data show the polar ice caps remained at approximately their 1979 extent until the middle of the last decade. Beginning in 2005, however, polar ice modestly receded for several years. By 2012, polar sea ice had receded by approximately 10 percent from 1979 measurements.

Think of "astro-turf" vs. actual grass roots.
Even FDR thought public employee unions were a bad idea.
When the regime changes in Tehran, we must not make the same mistake we did after the USSR fell. Round them all up.

16 "loretta sanchez insulting Native Americans"

For those not from Commiefornia and unfamiliar with Sanchez, think of Barbara Boxer with a conveniently Hispanic surname. An unsurpassed dimwit.

She has probably blown up her Senatorial hopes with this gaffe. Unfortunately that leaves the prospective frontrunner in the Senate race to succeed Boxer unchanged, that frontrunner being Kamala Harris.

If you want a capsule summary of Harris, think again of the brains of Babs Boxer, except crossed with the ugly racial politics and leftist lawfare propensities of Eric Holder.

41 "I wish someone would ask the GOP candidates the following : If elected, which Federal Agency would you eliminate, and how would you justify doing so? Just to see how they would answer."

Since I have no hope of being elected:

"Which federal agency would I eliminate? Well, if elimination of federal agencies is a goal, let me point out that on our current fiscal trajectory, by the year 2035, which is only two decades from now, the federal government's entire budget will consist of spending for Social Security, Medicare, and interest on the debt. AND THAT'S IT. There will be NO MONEY for any other government function including even for national defense. So nearly ALL of the federal agencies are going to be going away if nothing is done. I hope that puts things in perspective. Now what was your question again?"

48 I don't know if it's a victory against Common Core, but I certainly feel victorious over high stakes testing. I put my kids back in Catholic school for the next school year after one year of trying out FCPS. My fourth grader is so worried about the stupid SOLs, he had a stomach ache all Sunday night. His teacher told him that if they don't pass the test, they don't go to the next grade. A friend of mine encouraged me to opt him out of the test, but I wanted him to see for himself that it wasn't as bad as he thought it would be. Opting out is fine, but you cannot escape the two months of test review that preceded it, hence the return to Catholic school.

106 Public Schools absolutely need standardized tests. For decades, the Teacher's Unions have been churning out functional illiterates as "Graduates", defrauding both the taxpayers and the kids themselves. I've seen some of these tests, and they're not that bad (not counting Common Core, of course). The fact is that if a high school kid can't identify a Right Angle or identify the Author of Huckleberry Finn, then every Math/English grade they've received since sixth grade was a lie. And believe me, many HS Seniors get that basic shit wrong when subjected to Testing. Standardized tests are a check on the rampant failure and corruption of Teacher's Unions, that's why they fight them. Has nothing to do with the kids.

109 Why they don't simply come out and call them lying Democrat hacks to their faces is beyond me.

Because except for a very few of them: they're on the same team.

Those rare exceptions, therefore, cannot afford to do so- lest "everyone" (bipartisanship!) call them mean, uncivil, etc.

And, like it or not, such things do matter.

Now, if Republicans (in general) were *not* on the same team as Democrats, and *all* of them started calling the MFM lying scrunts, then it might be different. But remember: John Boehner, Mitch McConnel, and Lindsey Graham are not the RINOs. You and I are (well, you are, I'm not a "Republican" even in name (not registered)).

I don't think that's an "and yet." I think the two are linked.

If only "certified teachers" "know how to teach" then whatever certified teachers say must be the truth. Therefore, keeping out anyone who might attempt to buck the system is paramount. Then when all the certified teachers (who must know, because they're certified - right?) say that "standardized testing doesn't work," well, of course who can dispute it- you're not a certified teacher, are you?

So it's all part of the same scam. Notice the fact they want to require certification but they absolutely abhor continuing education requirements and recertification. Oh, no, once you're certified you know it all and never need additional training or to verify (through a recert process) that you're up-to-date on best practices and such.

Full disclosure: there are lots of my family members who are or have been teachers, including my mother and brother- I know of what I speak.

When a person wishes to leave a violent extremist grouping or coming home from combat overseas, it is crucial to provide customized inclusion efforts. I caught an interview with Rick Perry on the radio the other day, and he was talking up the claim that TX high school graduation rates went up significantly during his gubernatorial tenure.

As one does, I proceeded to shout angrily at the dashboard, "That's because the big urban school districts have been kiting the test numbers, you dope!"

Dallas, Houston, Austin, San Antonio, El Paso: they've all got suspicious testing practices going on. And of course this is not limited to Texas. It's rife in all big school districts across the country. I could cite chapter and verse from here in Commiefornia.

Nothing will change, anywhere, until there is genuine school choice and school competition. Plus genuinely independent administration and proctoring of the tests which are used to compare schools. Leaving proctoring in the hands of ISD officials is putting the foxes in charge of henhouse security.

It's not even funny. Somebody probably could do funny stuff about being raised Irish Catholic- any number of Catholic writers have. Take Frank Harris who writes about a boy having his first Confession. The boy somehow hangs upside down by his feet in the confessional so that the priest hears a voice coming from above. The difference is that kind of thing comes from genuine affection. You may not agree with everything the church says, but you don't hate it. I don't think real comedy can come from a place of hate.

The NASA standard is 'triple redundancy'. That is one tech doing the work, a second tech observing with a checklist to insure the work is done properly, and a third NASA Certified tech to make sure the other two are doing the work according to NASA Standards.

All of which is documented, reports filed, and a large support staff of administrators, secretaries, and Information Technology Engineers to design and build the digital data systems to support the administrative demands of document storage and retrieval.

Two engineers on an Amtrak train won't be sufficient. Amtrak will still need those automated systems to monitor the performance of the train crews.

174 Support for relatives: if a person has become active in a violent extremist grouping, or a trip to participate in battles abroad does not has gone to prevent it is very important to provide support to family, friends and related parties from the social and voluntary sectors. A national helpline targeted to anxious relatives will start in the autumn.

178 That live-science article about bear-sized aliens is vacuous.
The logic could support the idea that aliens will be large lemurs or tribbles.

I mean, yeah go ahead and love science sexually, but try to avoid the 16 YO fantasies based on nothing but rumors, popular movies and half-read magazine articles.

Jim Gaffigan has a brand new show starting that I imagine will deal with some of this since it's based on his life. And I expect it will actually be funny as well since he's hilarious.

180 (way up thread) the news about Kamala Harris's staff their "police force" died a quick death in the local news cycle here...

i don't think it lasted even a day: there certainly hasn't been any follow up in the local rags that i've heard of.

of course, Leland Yee hasn't been mentioned since his arrest either.

but, then again, this being #Failifornia, wtf did you expect?

the MFM has been running reports about how the local economy has been improving though...

181 Standardized testing is nothing new, but all the angst and anguish over them is. Back in the day, you didn't really prepare, there was no big deal made over them, you just went and took it and got on about your business. Now you have teachers stressing all year about it and projecting it onto the students to the point that they develop physical ailments.

184 On the Sulkowicz flap:

I had a male friend relate how he had been propositioned by a (in his retelling, quite attractive) woman who had previously made known to him her propensities for buttsechs and for hookups with strangers.

He politely declined and ran like hell.

I said, "What an opportunity missed for a memorable first date! I know this darling little STD clinic. Off the beaten path, far from the madding crowd, but small and traditional. The staff are unobtrusive but attentive. Real crisp white linen on the exam tables. And they do a lab culture Petri dish to die for. It's their house specialty."

Posted by: Insomniac at May 20, 2015 09:40 AM (2Ojst)

I wish I could say the same. The members of my family were all quite excellent teachers. They all had/have the same complaints though.

"I don't get paid for a single day I don't work!" (Well, guess what- neither do I)

"I have to work after I get home" (Well, guess what- so do I)

"I have to have continuing education courses, and I have to pay out of my own pocket!" (Well, guess what- so do I- at least, if I want to be any good at my job).

"I don't get Social Security!" (Well, no, but a) SS may not exist by the time I'm ready to retire, and b) you *do* get State guaranteed retirement benefits for which you never had to set aside a single penny).

"Our health insurance sucks!" (Tell that to those of us who have been forced off regular health insurance all together by rising prices, reduced employer contributions, and flat wages).

Cry me a f*cking river.

IIRC: She was dating her "rapist's" friend, but hooking up w/said BF's friends.

Her "rapist" was a friend with whom she confided relationship woes.

They became friends w/benefits with her prompting (sent him tweets suggesting they do specific sexual things).

He took her up on her offer more than once but then stopped.

She got pissed and claimed rape.

Posted by: Lizzy at May 20, 2015 09:41 AM (9+3PX)

Thanks! That's the stuff I didn't know. I knew she was claiming rape, and the police investigated and subsequently dropped it, but I didn't know the details.

Maybe we need a different word for actual rape, since it's being used so casually these days. Modifiers don't work. You can't say forcible rape, or violent rape, because then we have to start parsing those words too, just making it worse. We need a whole new word.

Same thing with marriage... but sorta backwards, I guess.

Posted by: sock_rat_eez at May 20, 2015 09:20 AM (S0bOl)

That, and warmists are now rejecting the satellite data because it doesn't show what they expect. Since the data doesn't fit the theory, we must discard the data.

I agree with you, Lauren.

Much of it depends on where you live and who you know. A friend that I grew up with teaches in the Dallas ISD and has become totally cray-cray. If I hadn't known her since Vic wore knickers I would unfriend her on FB. I feel sorry for her.

She's politically active, supports and is friends with the far-left activists on the Dallas ISD school board, and never met a leftist cause that she couldn't support. There are many, many more like her.

In the teaching profession, crazy is the new normal.
