The Banning Nation: Democrats Target Online Ammunition Sales

Because Freedom failed, I guess.

House Democrats are pushing legislation requiring face-to-face ammunition sales.

Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman (D-N.J.) has introduced the Stop Online Ammunition Sales Act of 2015. The bill unveiled Tuesday would require federally licensed ammunitions dealers to confirm the identity of individuals who arrange to purchase ammunition over the Internet by verifying a photo ID in-person.

The bill would also require ammunition vendors to report any sales of more than 1,000 rounds within five consecutive days to the U.S. attorney general if the person purchasing ammunition is not a licensed dealer.

"Far too many times, we have seen the shocking images of unspeakable gun violence that could have been prevented," Rep. Frank Pallone Jr. (D-N.J.), one of the bill's original cosponsors, said in a joint statement. "Our bill to limit the online sale of ammunition is a long-overdue common sense reform that I am hopeful will spark Congress to put aside party difference and come together to help prevent such senseless tragedies."

I don't know which unspeakable gun crime he is citing which would have been prevented by this law.

But I guess that's besides the point. They never even bother to make any kind of logical nexus between the law they're proposing and the outcome they're seeking. It seems enough to them that this is vaguely "anti-gun" and criminals, I guess, are "pro-gun," so even though this would not prevent any of the mass shootings we've seen in the past few years, it's... I don't know.

A religious devotion? An offering to the God of Government?

The Democrats' proposed laws increasingly look like prayers in legislative language.

When I suggested that 47 percent of homocides are committed by an identifiable group of roughly 6 percent of the population, and a focus on law enforcement for that group might be effective in reducing gun crime they stopped talking to me.

Nice phrase, ace (prayers in legislative language).

Yep, Anna, I'm not a hunter, but the ban on lead ammo in certain areas takes effect in July in CA. Ridiculous, in the everyday way. No scientific basis whatever for such a ban. But hey, we can throttle/cripple/rip off an entire economy with utter nonsense like "climate change", so what's a little thing like this?

Oh - and the idiot Schwarzenegger actually signed a similar bill in CA a few years ago. Fortunately a state judge struck it down - but on technical reasons (vagueness), not because it was unconstitutional, stupid, and inexcusable harassment of the citizenry by the govt.

I fear the idiotic, alien CA legislature will try this again, and not sure Brown will veto it (probably depends on his handicapping of its court chances). Simply amazing.

As a reloader, I also assume that the even *more* ridiculous idea of restricting/banning reloading component sales will be pushed by Sacramento - I mean, y'all know examples of your own life where reloaded ammo was used by gangs and career criminals, and nutcase mass shooters, right? So I have a small "reserve" of both loaded ammo and components (part of the latter is hedging against component shortages due to panicsdue to likely idiotic govt. harassment due to mass shooting event - the handgun powder shortage has lessened, but persists today, more than 2 years since the CT thing ..... amazing).

70 Wish lists.

They keep asking for the same stuff and sometimes they get lucky. Like with Obamacare.

Luckily, I don't think this one will pass.

However it gives the state idiots ideas and that is more problematic.

Once they can define nationally who can buy what ammo and when, they'll go from there to an id card, to yearly reporting form of personal inventory and/or usage when and where.

For the chilluns.

96 House Bill #1297

Federal Ban of Fists and Other Menacing Hand Gestures Such As Karate Chops

"Whereas the curling and gathering together of the fingers into a tight ball, commonly known as the "fist" gesture, could only ever conceivably be committed for the purpose of striking, punching, hitting or other act of redneck violence;

And whereas similar triggering gestures such as the Karate Chop, Moe Eye-Poke and "Launch Fireball!" also serve no other purpose but to engage in violence, be it real, imaginary or humorous;

Let it therefore be enacted that the creation of any such gesture within the boundaries of the United States, its territories and possessions, be a Federal felony crime punishable by five years in prison, a $10,000 fine, or both."

Online sales of C ampersand R (curio and relic, generally 50+ years old, not automatic or "destructive device" category) firearms can still be seller-to-your-door, depending on state. With a federal FFL-03 license, in most states, you can get C and R rifles delivered right to you (thus the nickname for the UPS truck, the "brown truck of happiness").

I did that quite a few times. Wonderful. Like a kid at Christmas. One driver even got into it after I explained to him and I would quickly open the box while he was still here to check out the rifle. He started buying them too.

Now .... in CA ... your C and R license must be supplemented by another, state-issued document that's three times as expensive and lasts one-third the time (one year). Of course completely idiotic - just more fingerprints and background checks to repeat all the others. But - then - you can still get the older rifles directly. I'm "done" with my rifle buys for the moment anyway, so it doesn't directly affect me.

And it's interesting how the LIV's think that all you need to do to stop a bad guy is to shoot him in the hand or foot, which is a helluva lot harder than hitting center mass and requires better accuracy.

I just finished watching "From the new World," a new-ish anime about a future society in which humans have developed psychic powers. Part of the plot is that if any teenager developing his or her powers starts to use them to hurt other humans, then that kid is unceremoniously killed. Sort of like banning violence altogether.

Yes. He bought a tactical looking vest online. Also known as a piece of clothing.

He bought ammo online (I guess).

And he bought guns online, which were shipped to a local dealer and then he had to pay that dealer, pass a background check, and then pick up his guns.

What part of that would change with a law?

Holmes had not committed any crime at that point, had a clear criminal history, and there was no indication that hew as about to snap and shoot up a movie theater.

That's the part that always gets me. Just admit that you want to ban guns, stop being lying pricks. Background checks don't stop criminally insane people from doing criminally insane things.

They just don't.

It's struck me for some time what a perfect microcosm of our civic and constitutional collapse is contained in the whole "gun control" area.

Wildly unconstitutional impositions on individual freedom premised on ridiculous rationales clearly unrelated to reality, clothed in revolting and ridiculous pretexts and language, peddled toa like-mindless press and a dumbed-down, ignorant, bigoted populace mostly free of what were historically American sensibilities and values.

It's all we see, never ends, getting worse, as the walls became speed bumps became green lights ("it's a tax").

Yeah...I was asking why I had to show my id at the pharmacy the other day. The woman behind me said, "because people make meth from it and blow their houses up.". My response was "don't care, seems self correcting." Which didn't go over well.

Of course the government's verification system was down of course so I was blocked from buying a box of cold medicine. I asked the pharmacist whether, being obviously sick with a cold and the government's system being down if she really, really couldn't just sell me one box. She suggested I go to another pharmacy. This of course because it isn't like the STATE'S system is down.

Yep. And therein lies the fallacy of the other side of the how to stop mass murder crowd. The 'science' of predicting human behavior. The courts acknowledge that psychiatrists are not actually very good at predicting which, if any, individuals will commit a violent act within a given short timeframe (e.g. within the next week). And yet the courts rely on 'expert testimony' from the same psychiatrists in determining whether someone is a risk to the community (i.e. detain or release).

291 The gun grabbers tried this before, under GCA '68. Handgun ammo sales only through licensed dealers, no mail-order sales, identification required, records of all sales sent to ATF. It was a complete failure, being both useless in reducing crime and creating an impossible workload. "The Bureau and the [Treasury] Department have recognized that current recordkeeping requirements for ammunition have no substantial law enforcement value." That part of the GCA was quietly cancelled.

Democrats don't have any successes to recycle, so they just keep repeating their failures.

346 I have a theory about why the Waco Twin Peaks was so stupid.

RoT Rally.

It's become a goofy "family friendly" ish event that makes bikers all seem like a bunch of harmless guys in leather drinking beer. My husbands brothers go every year, and though they do own motorcycles, they're about as far from the "biker" image you can imagine.

And they eat at Twin Peaks.

I think this whole "biker appreciation day" think stems from that and the managers were legitimately shocked to see it go all Sons of Anarchy on them.
