Hey, this is fun. "A person who believes global warming is real should be prohibited from running for anything."
"A person who believes gender and sexual complementary are a myth should be prohibited from running for anything"
"A person who does not believe that life begins at conception (as science strongly indicates) should be prohibited from running for anything"
"A person who believes that the US military is a force for evil should be prohibited from running for anything"
"A person who does not believe wholeheartedly in free speech should be prohibited from running for anything"
Isn't this awesome? And who's going to be doing the prohibiting? You? Me? Some unelected bureaucrat? hey, here's an awesome idea, let's let the voters and the public clowns out to pasture. It's not foolproof, witness the latest congress, but it's better than having a bureau of electoral prohibitions.

My idea (as a decided non-Huckabee) is to cut off most of the elderly care social welfaresystems except for those who really have no one to take care of them or are mentally incapable and then publicly shame people who don't plan for old age equally alongside those people who don't take care of their elderly kinfolks. Guaranteed to piss off people left, right, and center, and get the public off the government teat when it comes to elderly care. Take care of your own, and don't ask me to pay for it, and I will take care of my own and not ask you to pay for it.

The problem is, if you're a politician and you get drawn into a discussion on evolution, you've already lost. Evolution does not impact how one governs as president, has no bearing on legislation. There's room for discussion (there are, and have been a lot of Christian scientists) - but they don't want a discussion, they want to showcase that a Republican is really a Crayzee Christian.

They want the soundbite that screams "NOT ONE OF US!!"

And Huck's "Evolution is a farce" (if that's what he really said, that's not a paraphrase) does just that.

CLEET: That's right Bob, the Prince of Darkness has taken over the ring and that's usually when something bad happens.

[Cut to Satan in the ring, nodding like Mussolini as the boos increase]

SATAN: That's right America, I'm takin' over and there's nothing you can do about it! Plus I've got my woman Hillary here and she's gonna put a hurtin' on you!

[HILLARY CLINTON, dressed in a one-piece Mexican wrestler's costume, leaps into the ring and seizes the mic]

HILLARY CLINTON: You said it Beelzebub! I'm gonna do my master's bidding and punish you all! But first I'm gonna take out Jesus Christ and his homie Mike Huckabee! I'm callin' both of youse out!

[Boos become deafening. Cut to CLEET and BOB]

BOB THE ANNOUNCER: Well Cleet, what do you think about Hillary calling out the Redeemer and his guy Huck?

CLEET: Ahhh, that's not a great idea Bob, Our Savior doesn't like the Prince of Lies AT ALL and his guy Huck is alway --

[A loud commotion breaks out. Quick cut to the ring as JESUS CHRIST, dressed in the attire He's usually depicted in, and MIKE HUCKABEE, dressed like Hulk Hogan, jump into the ring and start hitting SATAN and HILLARY with open-handed smacks]

[Voiceover]

BOB THE ANNOUNCER: This is most unorthodox! The Son of God and Huckabee have bolted into the ring and -- oh my!

@115 and unfortunately (raises hand, guilty as charged), conservative voters as a wholehave enabled that as well.
There aren't manyhuge public conservativeoutcries aboutgovernment insurance programs for the elderly, and social security (okay, on social security there are some but the whole scope is for reform rather than removal). I have elderly relatives who have health insurance and take advantage of the government's supplemental plans as well. Part of me that's principled says that that shouldn't happen, and the other part says that if they don't get government help, then I will have to supplement that insurance out of my own pocket. It's not a pleasant thing to have to think about, but in part I am part of the Free Shit Army.

@177

I suppose the only question I have is what to do with people who are bedridden/mentally incompetent and whose families are either unable or flat-out unwilling to help them. Charities work well enough but part of me thinks that the government's involvement in this has shrunk our charitable spirit greatly in this country. We're still pretty charitable as a nation, but compared to the 1900s-1930s pre New Deal? Part of me thinks we can't have Uncle Sugarhandling (in part, and admittedly badly) care forthe most vulnerable of the elderly and disabled for so long without that doing something to how many people view the least of these.

I suppose that is where the phase-out process kicks in.

#11 -- comes in strong play when it comes to (NOT) Trusting in God to sort out the unsortable aspects of human situation when it comes to abortion -- big grubermint can sort this stuff out better.

#12 -- Yeah, it's OK to covet the wealth of your neighbors stuff when it comes the grubermint taking stuff from your neighbor (via taxes) that is then converted into your stuff when you vote for the right politicians.

Yep, never mind 'teach a man to fish and they can feed the community' -- it's fine and dandy to focus on handing out fish to the hungry so they'll come begging for more, which you'll promise next election cycle.

Yep. Anything that can't be challenged or tested by real world observations is hokum.

The three most amazing words in science are "Huh, that's weird." Then you go about investigating why a thing is the way it is. Then you learn something you didn't know. Then you challenge the old models that don't account for this new discovery.

String theory doesn't allow for that, because it never bumps up against reality and doesn't get challenged.

No, she's hated in the tech community because she nearly ran HP in to the ground with horrific decisions, and laid off the *wrong* people.

Meg Whitman cleaned house. She's not hated.

Carly introduced a sales model wherein HP Direct would compete with HP resellers for sales. So the HP territory manager was competing against the HP Direct territory manager for a sale.

So no resellers would tell their HP territory managers that they were working on deals, since once that went in to HPs sales system, HP Direct would know about it, know what price you were quoting at, and undercut you.

Long story short, that lead to it being damned near impossible for HP to forecast production since no one was entering forecasts in to their pipelines because everyone gets paid on commission.

It was a horrific incentive system.

And that's just on the sales side. Very similar things happened across the company.

Her predecessor tried to get HP out of desktops and laptops all together. When Carly came aboard, she spun that division off from the "printers / scanners" division, and HP already had a server / storage and a software division.

Each division had its own sales force. Who again, were competing against HP resellers.

It was a NIGHTMARE and everyone in the tech industry knows it.

Lenovos rise to #1 desktop/notebook sellers in the world is directly related to Carlys horrific policies.

An Arkansas hobo becomes an overnight media sensation. But as he becomes drunk with fame and power, will he ever be exposed as the fraud he has become?

268 I get where the artist is trying to show Jesus carrying the person like a Shepard carries a lamb.

But we're a few centuries past that being able to resonate with anyone.

That, and the person looks like a midget female. Like the front cover on some "Kama Sutra Of Tiny Forbidden Desires" paperback.

Re: string theory, as far as I can tell, is misusing the word theory. It's not testable and therefore has no ability to affirmed through via independent tests. At best it's an unfalsifiable hypothesis, and even that is, I believe, overly generous to the idea.

I will say that some smart people write lots and lots of smart sounding words to disguise the fact that string theory is in no way, shape, or form, science. Once you erase all of the goo, you're pretty much left with nothing.

Ironically, I have seen every President (and politician) compared to Lonesome Rhodes. That movie really hit a common thread with a certain type of person.

272 I don't know, every president we've ever had has been a christian, so "being a christian" does not seem to be a dis qualifier for me.
Posted by: mynewhandle at May 06, 2015 01:19 PM (AkOaV)

_____________

There's "being a Christian" and then there's "being a CHRISTIAN". Marco Rubio is Catholic, but I doubt he'd govern with his first question always being what would the Pope think of this decision.

Posted by: HUCK / AKIN 2016 at May 06, 2015 01:22 PM (0LHZx)

273 For all you Christian haters big bang theory supporters, a simple observation, go at it:

Einstein has shown that if you travel away from earth at the speed of light, then travel back to earth at the speed of light and you were gone 7 days in your time (meaning you are 7 relative days older) - how many billions of years could have passed on earth? (technically if you went at the speed of light - infinity - but for this exercise consider it close to that speed).

Big bang theorists (yourselves) have shown that at the time of the "big bang" the universe expanded FASTER than the speed of light.

Now, with a straight face, tell me again how 7 literal days from the time frame of moving faster than and close to the speed of light cannot possibly equal Billions of years relatively?

Didn't think you could.

274 Last week I saw a Mass where the priest invited laity onto the altar - and held hands with them - during the Agnus Dei.

What. The. Fuck??
Posted by: Sean Bannion

We had a guest priest that was "one of those." He went into the pews during the sign of peace and kept giving high-fives through the Agnus Dei.

277 Just saying, it is NOT impossible that the earth was created in 7 literal days - in fact modern science shows that it very well could have been.

280 Moo Moo isn't interested in actual facts. He just wants to lie through his teeth and claim to be smarter than everyone else. Even in regards to the industries and studies they are actually experts in.

I especially liked it when he argued with me on what was rich "in Seattle", then expanded the definition of Seattle to all of King county when it suited him, then back to Seattle proper when it suited him. Then dismissed me as a stupid jackass for pointing out his original point referenced Seattle proper.

Oooooookay. It's not to me; I believe God created the universe. I'd rather concentrate on Jesus, who he was and what he did, and leave the big debates to others.

284 Obviously, Huckabee is a joke and always has been; however, never underestimate the stupidity of many Republican primary voters. Huckabee's support levels in 2008 caused the establishment to rally around John McCain and give us that disastrous candidacy.

Wouldn't be shocked if it happened again...

285 doug @ 273 -

Which is exactly why I want Huckabee. Think of the megalomaniac that would seek to rule the United States indefinitely. All he would need to do is secure the vice presidency, then put the president on a rocketship travelling near the speed of light. Time aboard Space One would slow down relative to time on earth, but the figurehead astronaut president serves for four of his years which translates into a trillion years on earth. The downside of this unlimited power is that eventually he would get blamed for the sun going out.

286 People can still relate to Jesus carrying a lamb. Lots of people around the world still have little farms and such, but yes for someone in a non agrarian setting something different might be called for.

Posted by: FenelonSpoke at May 06, 2015 01:43 PM (MeuoO)

287 The logo represents the lamb - shepherds sometimes had to break the legs of naughty runaways. Then they had to be carried until they healed. That's what this represents - not wrestling.

Kid Rock had it right - you don't box with God.

290 #286 "for someone in a non agrarian setting something different might be called for."

Christ is what we all need, nothing else is called for.

Posted by: Miley's Tongue at May 06, 2015 01:50 PM (+Y3QE)

291 No debate here. My point was about a symbol for a logo with something other than a lamb (which was what the poster was addressing) not about the sufficiency of Christ.

292 If unguided evolution is true, then unguided evolution formed my brain.
If unguided evolution formed my brain then theism is false. (since theism entails the claim that God formed my brain)
If I believe in theism, then my brain has produced a false belief.
If my brain has produced a false belief, then unguided evolution formed my brain to produce a false belief.
If unguided evolution has formed my brain to produce false beliefs, then I cannot be confident that anything I believe is not also false, including unguided evolution.
Therefore, it is impossible to believe in unguided evolution, since the belief in unguided evolution entails the belief that I cannot truly know anything.

293 #291 Fenelon

The lamb is entirely appropriate, because our legs will be broken soon. We need to understand SUBMISSION to the will of God.

Posted by: Miley's Tongue at May 06, 2015 02:08 PM (+Y3QE)

294 Thanks; I understand submission to the will of God quite well. :^) The person who liked the logo )of Jesus carrying someone) was Ace who is not a Christian and is an Agnostic, and the person commenting on it in a jocular manner is a RC.
I'm just saying that for people who don't accept Jesus as Lord and come from a there are other images of Jesus that might be used instead.
