Fighting words is about a defense against an assault charge- that is, two people are arguing, one throws out an insult, and the other hits him- was the attack justified? Fighting Words (which is a very narrow doctrine, as I understand it) says "it could be, maybe."
It says *nothing* about the speech itself. I am never "protected" by the first amendment from other individuals not working under the auspices of Government. As has been demonstrated on many occasions.
Nor does the "Fire in a crowded theater" say anything about the speech. It is not "shouting 'Fire!'" that is -itself- the offense. There might be any number of ways you could should "Fire!" in a crowded theater and it not be a violation of any law. For instance: if there was a fire.
The Constitutional protection of Free Speech is specifically to protect what would be called "hate speech," insofar as speech which is not provocative or controversial needs no protection.

It depends. The left doesn't give a crap about Islam or "gay rights". They care about power.
If the leadership of the left sees a politically advantage in siding with the gay lobby it will go that way, or the Salafists it will go the other.

It pretty clearly bears the hallmarks of being ghostwritten. Who did it, I have no idea. But it didn't come from his pen.
In fact, I think Obama probably lightly skimmed it for editing. That fits his personality and that laziness has bit him in the ass a few times by revealing more than one fairytale.

I like non-fiction (although i read more fiction), but not usually biographies. I hate those first 50 pages of'in the beginning I was born', and then i was a child, blahblahblah...I would rather read a history book focused around an event or person. Some of these are kind of biographical, like In the Garden of Beasts and the Lost City of Z, but they are framed around a moment in time, a historical event, an activity...
The problem with non-fiction is that sometimes the writing is not what I would wish. But when you find a good writer who is writing non-fiction? It'd endlessly fascinating.
