19 I was listening to a presentation yesterday, and this woman had to announce quite adamantly that she is a feminist. Every other phrase out of her mouth was "from the feminist perspective..."

How tiresome that must be. To always have to filter the world through your narrow hole.

From MY perspective, it takes a talk that should last 20 minutes, and turns it into 40. Nobody learns anything, and it becomes an exercise in enduring your indulgence in a flimsy, phony worldview.

31 I've noticed something over the last several days. On the subject of how many protesters have been arrested in Baltimore, MSNBC always reports a low number, FNC reports a high number, CNN is somewhere in the middle.

At one point yesterday, Maddow was crowing about no arrests while FNC was reporting a couple hundred arrests and CNN was reporting I believe it was 112 arrests.

Why, it's almost as if the MFM lies to us.

81 BurtTC @ 19 -

"I was listening to a presentation yesterday, ..."

From a libertarian perspective, I opted to forego listening to this presentation.

"... and this woman had to announce quite adamantly ..."

This is her right as guaranteed by the 1st Amendment. From a libertarian perspective, it is very important that she do so. That's why the Founding Fathers included the word "adamantly" in the 1st Amendment. (If they didn't, they meant to.)

" ... that she is a feminist. ..."

As a libertarian, I adamantly advocate her right to live her life as she deems appropriate for herself and sincerely wish for her to acquire one.

" ... Every other phrase out of her mouth was 'from the feminist perspective...' ... "

From the libertarian perspective, this is helpful. Sometimes we libertarians forget stuff and we need to be reminded.

"How tiresome that must be."

As a libertarian, I find it relaxing. From the libertarian perspective, that is.

"To always have to filter the world through your narrow hole."

Libertarian or not, I'm going to leave that one alone.

105 This fantasy that Hispanics/Latinos will ever vote Republican in any great numbers has just got to stop.

We have 32+ years of hard data that shows they vote 3:1 Democrat.

New immigrants, sure.

But there were plenty of people in Texas who showed many conservative values.

Just depends on which Hispanics and what the Republicans think they have to do to get the votes.

Share the conservative message? Great, maybe it'll work.

Cave on certain issues? That would be less good and so is probably what they will do.

159 Last night I was reading the biography of Ornette Coleman in A.B. Spellman's classic "Four Lives in the Bebop Business." I'm no fan of "free jazz," but his early story is a very interesting and extended tour through the R & B /Chitlin circuit of the late 50s-early 60s south.

The racism that those guys faced was pretty horrible. These punks in the streets today have no idea. Kind of fascinating that Coleman experienced just as much racism in the supposedly enlightened L.A. and NYC as he did in Ft. Worth.

The Communist Party tried to recruit Coleman at one point, but he saw right through them. He said they only liked him because they felt, as Commies, they had to support any Negro. He said he knew they were just as racist as anyone else.

(*sigh*) I know. Crying shame on several counts: First, obviously, is the American sacrifice. That of our allies, too.

Secondly, there are those poor Iraqis. The United States of America asked for their trust and when they finally gave that trust, when they finally had a chance to build a functional society for themselves, we handed them over to the barbarians.

Third, there's every would-be ally in the world whose trust in the U.S. will not (for good reason, now) be forthcoming.

Fourth, there will be countless generations of American school kids who'll read about how we "lost the Iraq War" - or, more likely, "lost the illegal Iraq War" or some such crap.

It's not surprising that a black mother in Baltimore who chased down, cursed and beat her 16-year-old son in the middle of a riot has been called a hero. It's a pity there's no political party or national politician willing to cut through the bullshit and lay it on the line -

If you are an ally of the US, the Democrats will betray you;

If you are an American soldier, the Democrats will betray you;

Any treaty signed by the US will be automatically null and void under a Democrat administration;

Democrats are out and out traitors to the Constitution of the United States and should be treated as domestic enemies.

Heck, they make laws and when those very same laws that they themselves wrote and passed become inconvenient, they make new laws to supersede the old laws. They (Dodd, Frank, Obama) did this in March of '09 while anti-Rule-of-Law attornies general (Cuomo, Blumenthal) get promoted by their electorates.

256 Just watched the Daily Show interview of Judith Miller on her new book. Stewart's second half focused on the aluminum tube controversy.

This is a matter near and dear to my heart because I was on the outer edges of that loop. As a young, hot shot manufacturing exec, I had travelled to England with a pocket full of money trying to buy Matrix Churchill machines, the most advanced of their time, for a large Eaton order. Unknown to me at that point, Saddam had secretly bought the company and was funneling all the production to Iraq.

When the CIA convened a group of "experts" at Oak Ridge to talk about the tubes that had been found, they included a rocket scientist who had extensive knowledge of the MLRS system and centrifuge engineers, but no one who knew anything about manufacturing high ratio ID to length tight tolerance tubes.

The aluminum tubes were suppose to be for artillery rockets, which is a low cost, not particularly accurate method of delivery ordinance over a wide area. On the open market, the tubes were about $6 each. What Saddam had ordered were incredibly tight tolerance tubes with cylindricity specifications that would boost the cost well over $105 ea.

This information was lost on engineers who had never been asked to consider cost in their careers.

At some point, it would be nice if the media went back and actually reported on what the truth was.

I have had good success with the remote control Radio Shack indoor antenna in the attic. It works better than my big outdoor antenna. I get better than 100 stations in Houston. Of course only about half of those are in English. I do note that for some reason digital broadcasts are not set and forget like analog used to be. Even a plane passing overhead changes the multipath reflections and the antenna needs re-tuned once every few days.

They're old enough to know that when TSHTF, they won't be alive to suffer the consequences and presume their children - by virtue of being part of the ruling class - will be able to insulate themselves from the worst.

And even were one or more of them voted out, so what? They still have their money, their tax shelters, their connections, their security. They never have to interact with one of the plebs.

The sheer despair of it all is what fuels some of my worst fantasies, wishing for an all-out collapse so that, perchance, a corrupt old hack like McStain or en outright evil bastard like Reid would find themselves in the back of a pickup truck being carted off to a date with the nearest lamppost.

But it will never happen. McCain, Reid, Clinton, Obama - anyone you care to name - will never suffer the penalties they so richly deserve. They'll die rich, happy and content. It's enough to make one give up.

349 "These were all ran with only one connection to the back of the receiver and the antenna close by as high as I could get it in the living room."

I think I saw you mention that you have one antenna working fine on the second floor, and this second antenna that you are now working with is not working on the first floor?

Or, I may have that screwed up.

But, if I'm remembering correctly, try taking your functioning upstairs antenna downstairs, and hook it up.
Take the not functioning lower antenna upstairs, hook it up and see if it works.

351 To be fair, (and I am a woman),

There are wretched gold-diggers out there who prey on lonely old men. Yes, those old men may get something out of it, but it doesn't make it, and the women, any less wretched.

A couple was arrested near Frankfurt, suspected of planning a terror attack. They had an assault rifle and a completed bomb.

The interesting thing about the Krautish account, as opposed to say what we'd expect from Obama, is that it's described as an "apparent Islamic-motivated terror attack".

361 You can't bring down the Federal Empire with voting.

You can't bring it down at all.

You can be ready for when it collapses.

Voting can help. Vote for the people you would want in office when a major upheaval happens.

363 Hi, Vic-

I'm resting this again from the other thread because I got willowed (Hi, Willow; I ma praying for complete healing for your daughter and for strength and grace for you and the rest of your family) and I don't know if you saw it.

Vic,

The church has survived during times of famine, persecution plague, wars, communism. They've gone underground when the church wasn't allowed. Again, The Scripture says Jesus says, "On this rock I will build my church and the gates of hell with not prevail against it." Do you have hope? Is it in -in the Lord Jesus and what the Bible says or someplace else?

If Roman Catholics or any other Christians are feeling hopeless about the state of the church than go to the one who established it-Jesus who promised to be with us always even unto the end of the age. Catholics have blessed spiritual resources-the Eucharist and confession, scripture and prayer. and great readings from Catholics saints and mystics and church fathers Catholics can go to Mass daily if their schedules allow. You have said you don't go to church. I'm not jugging you here-I'm just saying if you're RC you're missing out on those wonderful spiritual resources of the Eucharist and Confession Protestants have the Lor'd's Supper too. They have the Bible, great hymns of the faith. prayer, fellowship with other believers, reading by teachers of the faith, some of whom spent years in jail because of their witness. I think you take a lot of time provide a great service here by providing news on every terrible thing that this administration is doing ;^) but frankly, if it were me I would be in a depressed heap on the floor if I didn't stand upon the Rock-Jesus Christ. Sorry if getting some "old time religion" here bothers you and I'm not trying too get into an argument but I look around-in the world in general and see people who are "functional Atheists" . They can use religious language and say they believe in God but they don't look to him to do anything, but hope maybe some politician might. get things straight. I find that a sad way of existing.

Have a good day, Vic and all; I may be back later but maybe not, I actually have some real work to do. ;^)

364 I declined to file charges yesterday against 47 year old woman being supported by a 97 year old man (98 in June) whose kids say she is stealing from him. He doesn't feel victimized.

I get why the kids are upset, but the fact is, it's still the old man's money, and he can spend it as --and on whom -- he pleases. As long as he is still mentally competent, it's his money and his choice what to do with it.
