Governor Hogan: I Wanted To Send In the National Guard Immediately, But Mayor Space-To-Destroy Dragged Her Feet
Asked why he was slow in sending the National Guard-- and can you believe the I Believe Trayvon media is complaining about a too slow law enforcement response?! -- Maryland's Governor Hogan wasn't having it.
Some questioned why it took so long for the Guard to be activated, to which Hogan responded that Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake was slow to make the request. He said he executed the request 30 seconds after it was made. Rawlings-Blake had initially said she wanted to give to protestors the "space to destroy" their environment. ... "When the mayor called me, which quite frankly we were glad that she finally did, instantly we signed the executive order. We already had our entire team prepared," he said. "We were trying to get in touch with the mayor for quite some time, she finally made that call and we immediately took action."In Katrina, the Democrat Mayor, the Democrat Governor, and the Republican President could all be argued to have some degree of authority for the response to the emergency -- but the Mayor and the Governor had the most, and the President could not act without their asking. Nevertheless, the media decided the President was guilty. In this case, the Mayor is Democratic, the President is Democratic, and the Governor is Republican. Who will the media decide was too slow in reacting this time, I wonder. By the way, I just heard from Limbaugh: You know where Mayor Space-to-Destroy graduated from? Oberlin.

Here is the thing. These people say they have legitimate complaints. The minute a bunch of people are on tv looting liquor stores, shoe stores and toilet paper apparently (WTF, Baltimore!) they lose any high ground they may ever have had.
And the people who were saying DC is next, i wouldn't count on it. Granted, Obama seems to have the worst security people in the world, but there are a lot of police in DC (military, parks, secret service although they've been kind of a joke lately, in addition to regular police) and they used to be rather good at riot prevention and handling large protests. IF anything happens it would be because somebody allowed it to.

What he did was make eye contact with the police and run away. The police chased him and tackled him to bring him down. Then they put him in a paddy wagon and took him to jail. When he got to jail they found he had a broken neck.
My guess is that they broke his neck when they tackled him. Why did he run? I dunno. Instapundit has a link to a story that he might have had a lock back knife in his pocket like the ones that NYC cops use to pick up easy arrests that make their record look good. Were the cops who tackled him black? I dunno but since the news reports don't repeat that they were white every single time they mention the arrest, I assume so.

Actually it appears that they gave him a rough ride, from what I understand. Sometimes cops will do this, bad ones. They put a bad actor like multiple drug bust scumbag Gray in the back of the patrol unit then drive really rough so the guy in back bounces around like a ping pong ball in a Lottery number machine to soften them up a bit and warn them to not be trouble.
Yes it would be funny in a movie, but in real life you can give people whiplash and worse - in this case, much worse.

Just the illegitimacy rate alone explains a lot of the problem. But at the present time, the government is outbidding a lot of black men in a competition to pay for raising their children. Former police chief Ramsey handled the many rallies and riots in DC well. He would meet w/representatives in advance, establish boundaries for the protests and ground rules on what behavior would be tolerated and then as soon as someone broke a boundary the police would take action. I've lived most of my life since college in "marginal neighborhoods" in cities. Not like bad neighborhoods (those were down the street), but not neighborhoods where you'd leave your first floor windows open and unlocked, either.

Baltimore was designed, built, managed, and largely occupied by the Democratic Party. They deserve exactly what they get.

Not going to lie, that was going through my mind last night. Mayor, gov both said they talked directly to Obama.
Police didn't react to what started off as a handful of yutes stealing toilet paper, which emboldened them. City just let it burn. Two police cars burned for hours.
Then all of a sudden the ONLY reaction (which I was a little surprised was being pushed HARDCORE on fox news) was to declare martial law and call out the national guard.

No income verification is done at any point. There was an NJ school district in the news recently who had like 95% of students on free lunches, including children of school employees making 6 figures.

Even though you get cash transfers, free food, free housing, free cell phone, free education for your kids (and free food for your kids at the school, freeing up some of your food stamp money for booze), free everything basically.
Just use your EBT cash to pay for cable TV and your shitty terrible credit car loan of $50 a week (no need for insurance or plates or anything), and you're all set.
But according to the US Government, youre in such dire poverty that youre one missed meal away from starving to death.

Although this may apply to some in some areas, it's not the usual standard regardless of all the anecdotal evidence.
I recommend anyone who thinks it's so great to quite their job and see what it's like and then get back to us on how much of a fantastic experience it all was.
I'm willing to bet very few will take me up on the challenge and anyone who does won't last for very long.
People only get in that position due to bad events happening to them or their parents. They might then milk it for all it's worth but hey that's human nature and usually whatever they're fudging on gets found out. (more snitching than you'd think plus the benefits SOUND real plush, until you have to live within those limits and there's other downsides)

Meh. If I get married, I plan to keep my name because it's mine. No hyphenated last name. My mom never changed her name and was a wonderful wife to my dad and personally cared for him tenderly herself when he was sick until the day he died (which to my surprise, wasn't that common in my country).

Well, my cousins both did it. Nothing really bad happened to them, they're just lazy. Both had part time jobs, one ended up in a hospital with a broken leg and no health insurance and BAMO the welfare people are the hospital got them all squared away. By that I mean that most middle class neighborhoods are going to be about 40% Hispanic because of demographics.
No issues unless you get in a situation like we were in in Austin where they pulled the kids from our middle class neighborhood across 2 highways to put them at a school that was almost all apartments and 90% of the kids were ESL.
Our next house was in a neighborhood that had the same demographics as our old neighborhood, but the school was in the newly developed neighborhood and only pulled from that subdivision.
My kids never went to that school, but just looking at the numbers showed anight and day difference.

I have 4 names on my birth certificate (3 in my passport) *in addition* to my last name. Adding another one won't work. (In my culture, we have lots of names. I have others, too, just not on any documents and it was weird to have to be limited to just one middle initial when I moved here.)
I guess I feel that way because my mom kept her maiden name after she married my dad, and so I'm used to it. Although she said some guy questioned her about it, and then she asked him whether his grandmother took her husband's name. And he was like, no, she didn't, you're right.
Taking the husband's name (and probably even the whole concept of surnames) is something we adopted from the West.

I guess it just felt more like a commitment to the marriage (not that my hubby required me to do it). Kinda like how people cohabitating sometimes say it's no different than marriage, it'sjust a piece of paper. It's not - there's something significant about standing before friends and family (and God) and making the commitment. Again, this was just how it worked for me - just went with what felt right.
