3 Good Morning Morons. Today is Saturday, April 25, 2015. On this day in 1898 the US declared war on Spain beginning the Spanish-American war. The war came from three major factors, the sinking of the battleship Maine that was blamed on Spain, agitation by William Randolph Hearst in his newspapers (the MFM of its day), and pressure from the Democrat Party. As it turned out the Maine was likely not sunk by the Spanish, the yellow press of Hearst should have been spoken out against and ignored, and the pressure from the Democrats should have been exposed as corruption in league with some industrialists.

10 More hot air:

The head of a powerful House panel is threatening to withhold defense funding over the department's alleged stonewalling in a probe of the controversial swap of five Taliban leaders for Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl.

An insider has already leaked the fact that the release of those Taliban terrorists from GITMO was already in the works long before the deserter showed up on the scene. The stonewalling that is occurring is to keep more excrement from coming off that rotating fan and hitting Obama. This panel knows what happened and they also know that they will never get anything from the lying assholes in this administration. And, they will never hold up defense dept funds and Obama knows that too.

And if they really really want answers they need to get the House to vote on criminal contempt charges and have the Obamanite stooges arrested and jailed until they come clean. And yes, they CAN do that w/o the corrupt DOJ. (see April 23, 2014 links)

24 OR idiot judge says bakers who refused to bake a cake <sic> for the Gaystapo should be fined $135,000. Their business is already bankrupt so this is an obvious attempt to bankrupt the family personally. I wonder if the judge is a member of the Gaystapo? The alleged harm caused to the two lesbians is all made up emotional bullshit. If I were this family I would get rid of all personal assets and leave the State. Note: The <sic> was placed there because as I recall, the original problem wasn't that they refused to bake the cake. They refused to attend the wedding to do other stuff.

I participated in the 2012 Nevada caucus.

Mostly it went fine... except for the after dark caucus for Jews and 7th day adventists. It was swarmed with Paul-bots.

Their reporting was actually revolutionary. They tweeted each precinct as it was counted in such a fashion, that one could read them with a program and instantaneously report on the results (all elections results should be reported thus.).

The problem was that while Romney came first... Newt actually came in second (winning, IIRC, at least one county out of 19). Paul was 3rd of 4, but due to the take-over of the GOP party apparatus at the time got the majority of delegates and embarrassed the majority of Nevada Republicans who rejected Ron Paul by blindly voting for him at the RNC 2016 convention.

On a personal level, I enjoyed participating in a caucus.

Sadly, Nevada GOP is divided between squishes and Paulita nutbags.

*sigh

Still, until 2008, the % of Dem vote in the General Presidential election steadily went up. 2012 was the first time in years that the GOP share of the vote went up in decades (Nevada was the only state in 2012 that elected a GOPer to the Senate while voting for Obama... the ONLY state).

Not saying he didn't. Just that his whole "seduced by the dark side" and "I should have objected to the anti-semitism" and "I never knew about the death camps" is a complete lie.

There is also a bit of the old moral relativism with a few older vets in the final episode, but overall, it has held up very well. Carl Davis' music is especially good. And of course, Olivier's narration.

Probably although it looks like the Mayor is already all over that. And the law that gives them the authority to do that says that they can do it if the local authorities are doing nothing. And yet Holder sent people to North Charleston even though the cop involved had already been fired and charged with murder.

Which that trial will be interesting to see because it turns out that once again the press accounts were slanted and incomplete.

77 1: or Pens fans who are bummed. I watched it and wasn't surprised at the eventual disappointing outcome. The Penguins limped into the playoffs so I expected this. Still, they played well considering all there issues and lost all 4 games by just 1 and even managed to win a game. I was expecting a NYR sweep.

It was originally only supposed to be a temporary law good for 5 years. It was unconstitutional as hell on several grounds. But in their attempt to curry favor from the blacks both parties vote to renew it every time.

I mentioned this the other day, but I figure I might as well give it another go today -- Canada has passed a law that for any new rule or regulation imposed, they must repeal/remove an older regulation/rule of equal weight or impact.

(I used preview becuz I'm not familiar with the source but they seem to be a reputable site)

This is something that has been discussed at the HQ many times that would at least stop the endless ratcheting up of restrictions until nothing can get done here. Canada has actually done something about it.

100 I bingewatched World at War last year (that term seems so trite) and thought it was fantastic. Kept reminding myself that WWII was very, very much in living memory when it was made, they had some pretty amazing interviews (Hitler's secretary, etc.) and the moral ambivalence from the Germans was sobering. I think a lot of the problems today are because we are now 4-5 generations removed now. WWI even more so.

They would never make some thing like that now without Martin Sheen or Tom Hanks narrating, a hard left antiwest view, with goofy CGI and it would be dumbed down ridiculously.

What's going to be hilarious is when he walks because they only charged him with murder and no other lesser and included charges.

The burden of proof to prove murder especially against a cop is pretty damn high.

The average half hour Television program is 21 minutes of content, 7 minutes of commercials. Thanks to Amazon and Netflix you can now 'bingewatch' three episodes commercial free and you've only spent one hour viewing. That's hardly some aberrant behavior.

111 SePA, kind of full-circle here: Mom didn't have any memory of the famous houseguests (HG Wells, Robert Frost) but did recall strongly that old Mr Spitzer Senior was not only a sophisticate in the old-world sense but a real cut-up and a card. There was a lazy susan on the breakfast table, at a time when all gambling had a well-earned gangland overtone, and he would wait until it was loaded, give it a thrilling spin, and say "Okay folks, place your bets!"

And he came to a sad end, at age 99. He'd stayed in the family's lovely small mansion as the neighborhood "changed," was was beaten to death by a punk (family employee if memory serves) looking for high value objects to steal. Similar fate to that of Oscar Zerk, inventor of the home coffee grinder and grease fitting.
