So Which Officer Was Responsible For This Humiliating Assclownery?

Temple_ROTC_hh-march

Looks like this one: BG Peggy Combs.

bg_peggy_combs-240x300

With an assist from this one, MAJ Michelle Bravo, who made it volunteeratory. Which meant the cadets were required to pay out of their own pocket for the shoes of humiliation and then had to publicly walk in them. For 'the mission'.

Well mission accomplished, ladies, mission accomplished.

Army Morale Hits New Low Despite 287 Million Dollar 'Optimism' Program

More than half of some 770,000 soldiers are pessimistic about their future in the military and nearly as many are unhappy in their jobs, despite a six-year, $287 million campaign to make troops more optimistic and resilient, findings obtained by USA TODAY show.

Twelve months of data through early 2015 show that 403,564 soldiers, or 52%, scored badly in the area of optimism, agreeing with statements such as "I rarely count on good things happening to me." Forty-eight percent have little satisfaction in or commitment to their jobs.

Gee I don't know what could have possibly caused this. Perhaps it's the above humiliation, or this, or this, or this, or this, or this, or this, or this, or this, or maybe this. Who knows. I guess it'll just remain a giant $287 million dollar effin mystery.

George Carlin on 'Saving the Planet'

And What We Really Should Be Celebrating on Earth Day

Why Do 'Feminists' Love the Ritual Shaming of Other Women So Much?

Because at the core it's really about gaining status and power over other women via the power of judgment. Because sisterhood.

Case in point: The awful terrible, bad, bad, 'anti-woman', bad thing that actress Kaley Cuoco said when asked if she was a feminist:

Is it ok if I say no? . . . It's not really something I think about. Things are different now, and I know a lot of the work that paved the way for women happened before I was around. . . . I was never that feminist girl defending equality, but maybe that's because I've never really faced inequality. . . . I cook for Ryan [her husband] almost five nights a week: it makes me feel like a housewife. I love that.

Wrong answer. Cue the outrage. And no her later apology was insufficient to slake the ugly shaming mob of sisterhood.

Can't watch Big Bang Theory ever again, how could you say you aren't a feminist?! It scares me women like this exist. http://t.co/qo3M9azDEI

- Eleanor (@eleanor_21) January 7, 2015
Synced magazine published on their website an "Open Letter to Kaley Cuoco from Feminist Lucy Bellerby," in which Bellerby claims that after reading Cuoco-Sweeting's comments, she wanted to smash her computer. (Well, she actually demonstrated her emotions with a .gif, but her intention was clear.) To the actress's hypothetical question, "Is it ok if I say no?" Bellerby answered, "Yes, it is bad if you say no. If you say no, it means that you don't believe men and women should be treated equally."

Guess What: Most Americans Oppose 'Free Range' Parenting

And by 'free range' parenting I mean normal, typical parenting as practiced up to the 70s and 80s.

Maybe this is a righty-blog phenomenon and I'm guilty of epistemic closure, but every time I see a story about CPS cracking down on "free-range parents" written up online, the author's attitude unfailingly is exasperated disbelief at how paranoid the state has become about unattended children. But that attitude is not shared by most of the public, and it's especially not shared by most women. Of the five questions listed above, the lowest amount of opposition among women was 67 percent who said they wouldn't let their pre-teen walk to school alone. (Fully 83 percent oppose letting a child that age use public transportation alone.) I guessed that young adults might be a bit more likely than older ones to grant kids some freedom, partly because they're closer in age to the hypothetical pre-teen of the question and partly because many of them aren't parents yet themselves. But no, they oppose "free-range parenting" about as strongly as older demographics do, and on the question of letting a pre-teen go to the park alone, they're actually the least likely of the four age groups to approve of the idea.

But, but this is just a nervous urban liberal thing right? Nope.

I also guessed that Republicans might be a bit more willing than Democrats to let their kids out unsupervised, since Republican parents are more likely to live in small towns and rural areas. Nope to that too: GOPers are actually less likely than Dems to let their kid go to the store or ride public transportation alone.

Because the outside is dangerous and uncontrolled. It's much better for children to stay indoors safely with the internet. After all no one was ever eaten alive by the internet.

Automakers to Gearheads: Stop Repairing Your Cars, You're Violating Our Copyrights

"Automakers are supporting provisions in copyright law that could prohibit home mechanics and car enthusiasts from repairing and modifying their own vehicles. In comments filed with a federal agency that will determine whether tinkering with a car constitutes a copyright violation, OEMs and their main lobbying organization say cars have become too complex and dangerous for consumers and third parties to handle."

OMFG: Congressmen With An Evil Assault Rifle in DC!!!

So a DC city attorney general saw this picture and sicced the DC popo on them.

Apparently, the DC city attorney general leaped into action when Rep. Ken Buck (R-Colo.) posted a photograph on Twitter posing with the scary rifle along with fellow Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.) and "referred the matter to the Metropolitan Police Department for further investigation." The District, naturally, bans certain rifles based on purely on aesthetics and the rifle in the photo sure looks like one that might have been covered under DC law . . .

Except it turns out that Congressmen are explicitly permitted to keep firearms in their offices:

"[Capitol Police Board] regulations . . .specifically provide that members of Congress may maintain firearms within the confines of their office and they and any employee or agent of any member of Congress may transport within the Capitol grounds firearms unloaded and securely wrapped," Lieutenant Kimberly Schneider said.

Researchers Developing An Algorithm That Can Detect Internet Trolls

Read up all you FBUs and by FBU I mean [you]:

Researchers at Cornell University claim to be able to identify a forum or comment-thread troll within the first ten posts after the user joins with more than 80% accuracy, leading the way to the possibility of methods to automatically ban persistently anti-social posters. The study observed 10,000 new users at cnn.com, breitbart.com and ign.com, and characterizes an FBU (Future Banned User) as entering a new community with below-average literacy or communications skill, and that the low standard is likely to drop shortly before a permanent ban. It also observes that higher rates of community intolerance are likely to foster the anti-social behavior and speed the ban.

No Fatties: 5 Rules Of Life As A Prostitute In Vietnam

But, at least in my city, a surprising amount of thought goes into pairing each customer with the best prostitute for his wants and needs. We're a service industry, and just because we're literally servicing our customers doesn't mean we phone it in.

Say the client gets waved over to a caller. It's not like a taxi stand, where you hop into the first available opening. The caller and the client speak for a while first. Sometimes clients have specific wants -- anything from a classy escort experience to hardcore BDSM. Then their preference is divided into age, figure, sex, and ethnicity. It's like building your own video game character, only you get to fuck it once you're done.
We have each other's backs, too. If someone tries to go to a moped prostitute's apartment, they'll find that all of the neighboring apartments are also filled with prostitutes, as well as an owner who can come and pin down the abuser. Clients who get aggressive can look forward to being dogpiled by call girls, and while that does sound like a hell of a lot of fun, I can assure you it is less so in practice.

83 I've long been an advocate (silent due to lack of reach/power) of a one day White guys strike.

Just to demonstrate that;

1) White lives matter too.
2) Men make the world go round (sometimes bad things happen)
3) You need us more than we need you
4) Fish need bicycles on dry land.

Lately I've been thinking it just needs to be a Guys Strike.

Men have become the target and yet they still need us. More than they realize or perhaps it's an awareness of how MUCH they need us that leads to this attempt to control through shaming and guilt.

I'm too old to be much of an example for anyone.

I invite any Man out there to consider this. If we continue to give ground, we'll soon have no where to stand.

(who's "they"? Anyone who assumes that somehow men are the source of all problems. Vestigal appendages dragged about by women for nostalgic purposes. Objects of fear and hate. And yet their worlds would collapse without us.)

Time to show them our true "Place" in the real scheme of things.

And unfortunately they've made it impossible to do quietly so we must demonstrate loudly (as they have repeatedly done) and make the point; "Your existence depends on our abilities and our patience".

89 As for free-range parenting (otherwise known as "parenting") Cougar and I butt heads on this.

I believe very strongly that scars teach valuable lessons. And that I'm not raising a child, I'm raising a woman. If we treat Princess like a child, then a child we will get.

Cougar has a very strong protective instinct. That's good too. When I think she's taking it too far, I make a whop-whop-whop sound like a helicopter.

93 The male-troops-with-high-heels thing is pretty clearly a violation of AR 670-1 standards, and while the local commander can specify the uniform of the day, it's not supposed to be outside of regs.

Which is why these troops were volun-told, not ordered as such; because such an order would have been illegal.

The SJWs did their homework.

I'm as shocked as everyone else. Buffalo is not happy, and I know that there are people demanding a rules change so a team doesn't win the draft lottery 4 times in 6 years.

Dale Hawerchuk said that Connor McDavid (who will be the first pick in the draft) has the skating ability of Bobby Orr, sees the ice like Gretzky, and handles the puck like Mario Lemieux.

Feminazis are pissed off because Kaley Cucco(?) is one of the most popular tv stars today, she is spokeswoman for Priceline and CoverGirl, and she is pulling down $1M an episode for BBT, because she likes to make dinner for her husband?

I thought the whole idea about feminism was that "she could bring home the bacon, fry it up in a pan, and never ever let you forget you are a man"?

There are some although I can't think of any by name off hand. But they should be supported.

The one good thing about Cracked has been that they're totally hit-driven. And they'll let anyone write for them and even pay you if you get enough hits. The SJWs may be trying to take it over but in the end if they don't get the hits, they're not going to control it.

Hell a lot of commenters here could just flesh out a good comment riff and get most of a Cracked-worthy article. Just go here and submit something: http://www.cracked.com/write-for-cracked/

The way I understood it, the military had the same sort of thing as every other Federal agency -- political appointees, who changed with every administration and set policy; and careerists, who make everything actually happen. Obviously SecDef is one of the former, but I figured everyone who had a military rank would be the latter. Things like "Joint Chiefs of Staff" would be where the latter were serving in the political side -- and when that gig ended, they'd stay at whatever military rank they had.

How long has it been like this? Did Lincoln have to get Grant approved? Sherman?

188 Re the free-range kids - I mentioned a few days ago in a morning thread that I grew up and still live in the same county where the free-range family lives. When I was ten my family moved to a neighborhood where I was expected to walk 3/4 mile to school. My younger siblings were also expected to walk 3/4 mile to school and back.

A few years back the Dept of Ed decided to allow students who live in the urbanized 'down-county' area to have the choice of attending one of five high schools. Now how do you get these kids to all these different high schools? You arrange to have them ride the public bus. So the same county that expects 14-year-olds to take public transport by themselves to get to school are freaking out about a 10-year-old and a 6-year-old being 1/3 mile from home on their own. It's crazy.

Apologies to Jim, but if the store (or your state, actually) can get Busch products, they can special order it for you. You might have to order a case, but they can do it.

Whether they will or not depends on the store, but they have a rep in every week, it's not a problem to add one extra case to the AB order req.

Some of you guys are lucky, this has been going on all your lives. You don't know any different condition.

I was born at the time just before the changeover.

I know how things used to be and what I could expect.

All that was taken away. Reason given: the previous living had overstepped the bounds of society's opinion NOW and that I was required to be punished for their actions.

It's been one thing after another. And one aggrieved group after another.

AND THEY'RE NEVER SATISFIED.

They never reach a point where they say; "Okay we're good".

It's always something else or a lack of recognition of the changes effected to please them.

They're like spoiled brats; nothing good enough for them, you'll never satisfy them because they WANT to feel offended/aggrieved/put upon/ whatever.

Yeah but then almost every on-line site that isn't explicitly conservative has also gone full anti-#GamerGate. Which makes me pretty much skip any #GamerGate articles from non-right sites.

Because the leftists and SJW really, really, really care about it and are driven to write articles pushing their agenda and work on making their views the easy default ones.

But if someone could write an actually funny article on #GamerGate mocking the SJWs, I think there's a decent chance you could get it posted on Cracked. If only for the controversy hits alone.

--

Well, the topic was media consumption. I'm not say to hell with Cracked. When Cracked is funny it's still funny.

There's a billion sites. I ignore most of them. I follow more than most since I'm a new junkie and use an RSS reader to keep an eye on a few hundred sites for lots of different topics. Cracked used to be one of those few hundred. Now it's in the big pile with the billion other sites who I only see if something bubbles up.

For comparison, I still subscribe to College Humor's youtube channel. I'm sure most or all the ppl there are left-wing. They are young comics on the make in the big city - 95% of that demo are left-wing.

But CH doesn't seem to gratuitously insult me like Cracked started doing.

I expects some right-bashing from every mainstream site. And definitely every comedy site. I'm pretty lenient. Cracked just started being relentless and daily about it. So I stopped checking it daily. Then stopped checking weekly. And now I don't really check at all. But mostly just cause I got out of the habit.

I feel no anger at Cracked. I did for a bit when they went full left and I was still reading it daily and getting pissed. Now I don't read it and don't get pissed. Maybe they've backed up the progtrain a bit.

I still see an occasional Cracked article here or on social media. And that's cool.

Posted by: SMFH at it all at April 22, 2015 11:46 PM (OsWis)

Yeah, their value lies not in actually getting speared.....but learning about discipline and danger -- and dads used to be relentless in teaching this.

Another example from my childhood -- I have a cousin who is just shy of my age and sometimes we'd live nearby. My uncle, a Marine, had a gun rack on the wall of the living room with shotguns, rifles, pistols and such -- no bullshit locks, trigger guards, or any such. So I'm over there one time, maybe 7 years old, and we were behaving like little maniacs, and I start bouncing on the couch....and my cousin goes, "no, we'd better not do that -- we might bump the gunrack."

There was no secret, no denial -- hell, my cousin had probably fired every gun on there by the time he was five -- but there were serious rules that had to be followed.

While the torture was deplorable (a simple bullet to the head would have sufficed), what Pinochet did was round up everyone who was involved with Allende's "fundamental transformation" of Chile.

It wasn't a decades long terror campaign, but a quick grabbing of the bastards where were trying to communize Chile.

It couldn't be done in the U.S. today because it would involve killing most civil servants, most college Professors, most leaders of tech companies, most of the news media, most of Hollywood, &c.

288 Okay the whole free-range parenting thing? Disclaimer: not a parent. But there are a TON of things my parents let me do (born in '75, consider myself a child of the 80s) that I would never let my own kids do (and, coincidentally, they don't let their grandkids do today). And I don't think it's so much distrusting how they'll fare on their own, it's all the other 'effin sick people out there.

Granted, you can say that maybe it's no different statistically then as is it now, it's just that with our 24/7 news cycle we simply hear about it more....

But do you know how hard it is for me to find someone who either wasn't molested themselves or know someone close to them who was? You literally can't trust anyone. My guess is that a lot of these parents who are saying 'I absolutely would not' to the Maryland case know someone, too, and it plays a big part in why they wouldn't let their own kids do that.

I can remember walking home by myself in 1st grade, school was 4 blocks away, and I remember one day, a car following me slowly as I turned down my own street and eventually the guy in the car asked me if I wanted a ride home. Uh no, got that bad feeling and just started to run. For a time, a family rented the house next door to us and the 15 year old was a child molester who grew up to be a child rapist and is now serving life on 5 counts of child rape.

That shit is literally everywhere, you can't escape it, and no way would I let a kid of mine go to a park by themselves or take public transport by themselves, not even in today's age of cell phones. The kids in question that spurred this - 6 and 10? No way would I let them walk TO the park alone, be IN the park alone, or walk FROM the park alone at that age. Nice graph about the declining abducted children, but how many have had something happen to them without ever being abducted? In their own neighborhood, on their own street? I know quite a few.

I'm not saying the state should take the kids away, but hell yeah I think those parents are naive - I don't care how worldly or 'mature' they claim their kids to be. Sure as hell didn't help me.

293 The way I understood it, the military had the same sort of thing as every other Federal agency -- political appointees, who changed with every administration and set policy; and careerists, who make everything actually happen.

Sherman?

Posted by: cthulhu at April 22, 2015 11:33 PM (T1005)

Since George Washington went to the Continental Congress to get commissions for his officers.

IIRC, all officer commissions have to be approved by Congress, but they are usually just a formality, and are done during the Defense Appropriations bill.

Interesting in that this past Sunday night's "Turn" had Washington informing Benedict Arnold of his promotion being approved by the Continental Congress, but that Congress stipulated that he would remain subordinate to several other generals of the same rank.

Posted by: thathalfrican at April 22, 2015 11:53 PM (R5HRU)

OK, there are rules and regulations, and then there are rules and regulations.

Certain ones are all, "break this and you go to jail/rehab/go live in the mission"
You have to do them because there is someone with a hammer waiting for you to color outside of the lines.

Others, well, they are there because once upon a time someone got things really mucked up and the clean-up and making right was a bear.
So, as always, the important thing to remember is, if you want to do it in a way that makes sense and probably gets you a good result you also need to ask:

A) can I fix it if I screw it up doing it my own way; and

B) do I understand what I am risking by not following the book.

Many unplanned late-life careers have been started by not pondering those two questions

My wife on the other hand freaks out about guns. Never been around them, doesn't understand them, and doesn't want them in the house. I don't know how to tell her about the unfortunate fishing accident I had down in a closet in the basement.

Of course, it is rumored that her dad has an M1 from his army days somewhere in their house. If my BIL ever gets his mitts on it, the dumbass will pawn the damn thing.

But then maybe not - I haven't heard of anyone here or elsewhere actually submitting anything pro-#GamerGate there and getting it rejected. There's really no downside in attempting it and seeing what happens.

A lot of people here are always complaining about the lack of fighty-fight on the right in the cultural wars with the left. But then when presented with a real-world opportunity to actually get into the fray and possibly push back a little, suddenly everyone's got a dozen reasons why it's hopeless, will never work, a total waste of time, worthless, etc. etc., bla bla bla. 364 337 When I was a kid I built plastic model airplanes. Except for one attempt, I never got into balsa wood models.

I remember my dad telling me that when he was a kid, he would build balsa wood airplanes, then soak them in gasoline and light them on fire before flying them out the window.
Posted by: rickl at April 23, 2015 12:22 AM (sdi6R)

Growing up we used to build all kinds of those plastic models, mostly WW2 vintage aircraft and ships. Then we got out the firecrackers, model glue and lighter fluid and blew those fuckers all up.

Our parents still laugh about it today.

So, they try plinking a few tin cans, and they're less than impressed, so my dad -- as a joke -- draws a bead on a nearby streetlight.....then, comically, adjusts wayyyyyyy tooooooo much for windage and elevation, and pulls the trigger before the gun goes "sput".

I think it is possible for a congresscritter to nominate a student to more than one service academy, but I think the congresscritters frown on doing that. Usually a nomination gets the student in.

I'm sure that the congressmen also do so horsetrading of the students nominations too. Like when Congressman A has two students that want to get into USNA, but no one that wants to go to West Point, while Congressman B has 2 that want into West Point, but none into the USNA, so each will nominate someone not from their district.

Cougar doesn't give a good shit about other people's opinions, in her own delicate words "if they don't like me they can fuck off".

But once a week or so, I'll come home from work, and instead of her usual mommy uniform (read: whatever she wore to the gym) she's wearing a nice dress and heels with her hair all done up. That ain't for other women, cause we're not leaving the house.

436 High heels suck, especially The Pump - the most uncomfortable shoe ever made. They are always too narrow, and they are painful. I hate them with a passion.

Why are women so awful to other women? Why, indeed! Women are much crueler than men. A woman can dislike another woman for no reason at all, and she has to recruit allies to help destroy the person's career, relationships, and even her life. I'm a woman, so I can speak with some authority on this subject. Women view other women as competition that must be eliminated, and they can be more vicious than any man could ever imagine - trust me on this one, guys!

This is why men are so much easier to deal with, especially in the workplace. I'd much rather have a male boss than a female one, and I am not the only woman that feels this way.

And if women "ruled the world" there would be a war busting out anytime one world leader upstaged another.

And no, any woman that calls herself a feminist is either an extreme leftist or she doesn't know what feminism is really about. It is NOT about equality. Feminist "thought" is informed by Marxism. Need we say anymore?

I've worked with women who've expressed that same thing. Lots of personal fighting and positioning.

As a man, I much prefer an honest statement of disagreement followed by an honest exchange of fisticuffs.

A male boss will likely be more differential than a female boss, and most likely will be kinder, more forgiving, and even handed.

The intra-matriarchal sniping is far beyond the ability of men to deal with and I feel for women who have to deal with it.

That being said, I've known plenty of women in positions of power that I've respected... but then I'm a guy and am not treated the same as a woman.

New shiny came along. While the media always talks about women being part of the base of the Dems, it really is black women. Once Obama got the black vote wrapped up, there was no way he was going to be denied the nomination. There was even talk in 2008 that Hillary! had more delegates than Obama, and may have had enough for the nomination, but once the media declared him the winner, there was no way she would win the election without black support, so the "Superdelegates" decided to back Obama.

She will not allow that to happen again. She and Bill want the Dem money machine back in their pockets again, not in Obama's.

What we are seeing is a civil war in the Dem party, and it is not a philosophical one, it is a power war.

The Clintons had control of the Dem party from 1992 to 2008, and they believed that they would be in control until 2016, and Obama screwed that up for them, so to get control of the party back, they have to win the nomination this time around, if they don't, Obama retains control and doesn't really care who wins because if the Dems lose, he still controls the party for the next 8 years at least.

Imagine how much Obama's foundation will bring in with the Clintons out of the way.

As a former auditor, I can tell you that -- yes, it's difficult to "find a zero". OTOH, I am less forgiving about the 2011 audit -- when a large slug of money appears on the balance sheet, it is only natural to wonder "where did this come from?"

American lefties see the military as an exemplar of the populace they so thoroughly despise. Other totalitarian societies humiliate their citizenry but not their military -- because they know enough history to understand that countries that humiliate their military don't last very long.
