Captain Kickass: You Know, We Could Penetrate Iran's New S-300 Air Defense System, If We Felt Like It

AllahPundit wants to know if anyone in the press will ask him if Israel could penetrate the air-defense system, which is the more important question.

Couple of Points:

Captain Kickass likes talking tough. His idea of athletic competition is not actually, you know, athletic competition; it's trash-talking, which is an exceptionally annoying thing coming from someone who sucks this bad at basketball and who is so bad at golf -- which is actually his career now -- that Michael Jordan openly mocks him.

Captain Kickass also likes Lying to the public, giving them False Reassurances, such as the claim that ebola cannot be transmitted by sneezing, or that we had all the time to dick around with Iran that we like, because they're at least a year away from building a bomb.

Now, to put pressure on the public, he changes that and noted that they're only 2-3 months away from building a bomb -- but if we agree to his dopey plan to install a sworn enemy of America as Hegemon of the Middle East, that number will go back up to one year.

So he is now probably lying about the US' ability to penetrate the improved Russian-provided air defenses. Lying, so he can Reassure us that if we really need to, we can take out those pesky Iran nukes before they detonate them on America.

But he's probably lying, because he is really good at lying.

That's really his sport.

Oh, and open thread.

Before I go, I wanted to give a present to Alex the Chick.

12 As someone that has flown against certain systems, I can testify that Russian SAMs, especially the 'double-digit' variety (SA-10s, SA-11s, SA-15s, etc...) are nothing to screw around with. You would think after what happened in Kosovo that U.S. leadership would know better than to tempt fate like this.

But we are talking about Captain Stupid, so carry on...

18 From the article: "If the S-300 proves effective against Israeli air assets, it could be smuggled by Iran to Syria and Lebanon, where Hezbollah could use it to threaten passenger jets flying into Tel Aviv."

I'd be willing to bet the first missile that brings down an passenger jet is a MANPAD from Libya or Iraq. And it won't likely be in Israel, it will be in the US.

185 The F-22 was employed in Syria *expressly* because the DoD has reason to believe that Russia broke the embargo and issued them S-300s. Meanwhile, Israel walked through their defenses and struck targets with F-15I's and F-16s with the assistance of their airborne EW assets.

Suffice to say, the capability is there from both players.

187 Maybe the few, still-operational superduperstealthy bombers we possess can penetrate, with enough ordinance a small % of the Iranian nuke facilities (that we can identify).

The Israelis not so much.

The Israelis get to choose:

1. Pre emptive tactical nukes (and the shitstorm that follows, militarily, diplomatically, politically at the UN and in the US), or
2. Near kimikaze pre emptive conventional missions with uncertain chance of success with great loss of pilots and aircraft, but that might just delay things enough to get a Repubican US President with huevos in office, but which may also just
3. Prod the Iranians to accellerate their breakout (see I told you eevil Jooz) to get their nukes and use em before Jan 2017

And.. in any of these scenarios, just what else do I win Bob?

Massive Iranian conventional retaliation including chemical weapons
Multi front proxy war with Hezbollah etc if not direct general war with Iran and various inflamed proxies

Or they could just die already.

I'm guessing Obamster's not looking at Curtain #1

189 If the SA-300 system is a new generation, I would assume the missiles have both active radar homing (or can be beam riders to a target) and infra-red homing.

The US Standard SM-2 can be programmed to fly to a certain part of the sky (near the target, for more efficient fuel use) and then turn on active homing in the terminal phase of flight.

So Stealth Aircraft are less effectively invisible against long wave search radars, and more effectively invisible against short frequency guidance radar (used in terminal guidance or missiles that are beam riders to the target).

If the SA-300 missiles can be programmed to fly near the part of the sky where the search radar generally locates them, and then switch to infra-red homing, they can probably knock down a stealth aircraft/strike aircraft.

If the search radar can actually find the stealth aircraft. And hunting SA-300 sites can have the added bonus that Russian nationals may be operating them for the Iranians.

But the question is moot because we will do nothing against Iran while Obama is in the White House. Nothing.

Like that time in "Superman: The Movie" when Lex Luthor said, "Superman, the control for the missiles is in that lead box, and also, there's kryptonite in there which will kill you." That was a great scene, and it ended the movie early without all that earthquake/backwards time stuff.

262 The S-300 has a fatal flaw. A small aerial drone equipped with a small explosive charge is all that is needed in order to blow up the antenna on the command post. Without that antenna, the missiles are totally blind, and a drone is too small to be picked up on the targeting radar and too slow and maneuverable to be destroyed by anything other than lucky ground fire.

You're welcome.

See, that's the thing that has always bothered me - Obama is actually REALLY shitty at lying. His lies are transparently false. He typically doesn't even bother to learnenough about the topic to craft a decent lie. He often lies about stuff he doesn't have to, for no obvious reason.

Saying Obama is a good liar is like saying the naked king has good fashion sense. The king is a complete deluded idiot, and everyone actually knows it. However, for a variety of reasons, around half our country chooses to deny the obvious.

363 Jane, hiccups are spasms in the diaphragm. You may need to take some potassium or magnesium to lessen the spasms.

The way to relieve the spasm is to stretch the diaphragm muscles. Hold your breath, but while doing that, try to lift and expand your ribcage as much as you can. Raising your arms helps lift your ribcage.

If I were in charge of the Israeli air force, I would have people around the world buying up a few hundred of the 6,000 Boeing 727s that were built and having them converted into drones. That rear stairway could work as an effective bomb bay door without having to modify the airframe.

Fill the interior with a smorgasbord of JDAMS, laser guided bombs and anti radiation missiles. As soon as the aircraft is illuminated by radar, start launching anti radiation missiles as fast as possible while transmitting the location of the radar sites back to base. Meanwhile load the location of the radar sites into the JDAMS and release them as soon as the last anti radiation missile is gone. If the drone has still not been shot down, release the laser guided bombs while simultaneously going into a Kamakazi dive towards the S-300 site. Since the baggage area under the floor will be used for fuel storage to give the 727 drone extended loiter time, the area where the 727 drone impacts will give new meaning to the term "scorched earth".

If the radars are not turned on, the drone flies around for hours searching for the S-300 missile sites, and once found, designating them with the laser and launching laser guided bombs. The crew at the missile sites can wait to be plinked or they can turn on the radar and try to fight back.

For extra fun, the 727 drones can have their IFF squawk the same as Iranian passenger jets while in Iranian airspace.

Please, please, please use discerment. There is a lot of junk out there, unbiblically worldly or even liberal junk masquerading as sound exegesis.

Especially in "megachurches" claiming to be "conservative". Maybe a first step should be listening to some podcasts from Chris Roseborough of fightingforthefaith.com, and hone your discernment-foo. He does exegesis and full length sermon reviews, all in a very entertaining, informative way.

582 srsly u guys. What's a good site to recommend to Molly k. for her sis? for observant Christians to wean them off of PC?

Blogs aren't generally great for that - because blogs post daily, and will post stuff that assumes the readership already knows where they're at.

For example: I just loaded up one random female-oriented site I used to read. Its top posts are responses to emails. Other posts are comments against "Marxists". These assume that Marxists are bad. Yes, Marxism *is* bad - but, the posts don't prove the point, which proof is what Molly's sis needs to read.

617 My suggestion is to let the faith dimension work itself out according to God's grave (always keeping her sister in prayer as I'm sure she does), but to have the sister read political conversion stories first. I have been a Christian for years (although not always a good one ) but it was from reading the background of issues and personalities that lead me to a political conversion. For that I would recommend Neo Neocon.com website. Her sidebar has links about how she became a conservative. She's not religious though, but I also like the Anchoress site as well.

But they do LOVE Hawaiian food. There's a place here in Killeen not far from East Gate at Ft Hood that serves Hawaiian food. That place is ALWAYS packed during lunch. One of the few reasons I'd drive off post during lunch, because trying to get back on before 13:00 was a bitch.

What are some good spiritual blogs for conservative Jews? I don't mean political blogs done by Jews who happen to be conservative (there are a LOT of these, of high quality). I mean blogs done by Jews for Jews to help them be better Jews.

with churches in FL was a peculiar little non-canon bit of dogma I've
heard called the Gospel of Wealth. Or, basically, if you go to church,

Trying to tell people that's not how it works tends to work like a lead balloon, too.

As I understand it, that is pretty much mainstream Calvinism. God has predestined the Elect for salvation and everybody else is going to Hell no matter what they do and God gives indications of who are the Elect by their success in this life. This flavor of Christianity is sometimes disparaged as "infant damnation" or more negatively as "God hates poor people".

I view it as a heresy but you are as likely to persuade people out of that belief as you are to talk a progressive out of believing in anthropogenic global warming or the moral superiority of same sex marriage.

663 Is "Name It and Claim it Biblical?"

Absolutely NOT

But I agree with you that people who want to follow the Big Gumball Machine in the Sky. ie-You put in your penny (prayer) and God gives you what you want cannot be persuaded of it Only God's grace can do that.

664 Calling "Prosperity Gospel" a heresy is being far too kind.

God is not an ATM. He will happily remind you of that if you forget for too long.

^^^This^^^ I don't think it's Calvinism as well.

It's also known as "health and wealth*

A good indicator that the "health and wealth gospel" has problems: Tell it to a Christian in the Middle East right now. Or a whole bunch of other areas in the world.

Well said; It's an abomination. Jesus had no place to lay his head. His followers deserted him.He suffered and died on a cross and called the rest of us to do the same. All of the Apostles except John died as martyrs. I think the "Prosperity GospelI is a tool of powers and principalities which appeals to the greed an cupidity of people.

Posted by: FenelonSpoke at April 22, 2015 11:17 PM (DXzRD)

668 It's good to know I'm not the only person out there that feels this way. That stuff's insidious and damaging to Christianity as a whole, because it's shallow, false, and ends up driving people away if things don't start gong well after they get pumped up with the promises. I spent most of a decade as an agnostic because of "Christians" like them.

Posted by: Cato the Rebel Without a Party at April 22, 2015 11:20 PM (3HxZe)

669 I think that there are a lot of people who feel that way, Cato, but the wealth and prosperity preachers sadly have a lot of power and influence on the airways and through books.

671 A society dumb enough to reject God and replace God with radical muslims, and flood the military with the same as well as perverts and deviants, deserves just what all this begets. A nightmare you couldn't even convince these fool tools, that is coming.

Oh, we probably could penetrate an S-300 air defense.

Just like we did against the SA-2s during Linebacker II. It is just a matter of how many airframes/aircrews one is willing to lose in the effort to degrade the defenses.

Once Iran is out of missiles and radars, the B-52s can operate with impunity. The cost of getting there? pretty high. Israel can't afford that. Teh Won? wouldn't care until it started hurting him politically.

Posted by: I R A Darth Aggie at April 23, 2015 09:47 AM (VvOZ5)

674 The problem is that unless USAF has changed a lot in the thirty plus years since I was an electronic warfare officer, it tends to give lip service to any non-acute ECM needs. There may well be jammers that can defeat the S-300 system, but they may never have been produced except as prototypes, or produced but not installed, pending the opportune moment.

And when you do install new equipment, especially on a rush basis, the first thing that happens is that half the newly installed equipment 'faults' as soon as you try to use it.
