Jihadist Planned Attack on Churches in Paris; Arrested After He Accidentally Shot Himself in the Leg
Over the weekend, there was an odd and macabre story about a young woman, a dancer said to have "no enemies" and "nothing but friends," who was found riddled with bullets in a car set to flame in Paris.
No one could figure out any motive for such a spectacular murder. It turns out there was no motive-- she was a "dry run" murder victim, chosen at random by the terrorist who had planned to go on a shooting spree in the Christian churches of Paris, or, as Obama would term them, Places of High-Horsedness Where People Do Not Remember The Crusades.A heavily armed Algerian jihadi who was preparing to attack churches in Paris on the orders is in custody this morning after being implicated in the murder of a young woman. The 24-year-old, named locally as Sid Ahmed Ghlam, had shot himself in the leg before his arrest by anti-terrorist officers in the 13th arrondissement in southern Paris on Sunday. This afternoon the Paris prosecutor said police found Arabic documents mentioning ISIS and Al Qaeda at the IT student's home, as well as evidence on his computer that he was in contact with a man in Syria 'who clearly asked him to target a church.' ... Sunday's arrest came just hours after the murder of Aurelie Chatelain, a 33-year-old mother and fitness instructor, who was riddled with bullets as she sat in her car in a car park in the Paris suburb of Villejuif. Investigators reportedly claim DNA evidence links Ghlam to her murder.

That is an interesting observation. Refugees fleeing northern africa are being picked up by rescue vessels (Italian Coast Guard, more or less) and then taken to Italy. Those who traffic in refugees know this and will call the Italian Coast Guard on the radio and plead for rescue saying their vessel is in danger of sinking.
This would stop if the Italian Coast Guard returned the refugees to the port from which they embarked rather than taking them to Italy.

But fun ancestry story. The LDS church traces the ancestry of every president and compiles it for them into a book. When they presented Dubya his book, he joked about the possibility that he was descended from horse thieves. The church assured him that no, he came from a very respectable lineage. There was a history show on the other night, when actor Bill Paxton ('game over man, game over!') was researching an ancestor who fought in the Revolutionary War as a teenager. He was actually in a famous battle at Kings Mountain, now in South Carolina. There was actually an account of the battle written by him. As Bill research him further, he found when he had moved to Missouri (where his father was born and raised), and then found out he had owned slaves.
Bill was initially appalled, but it was part of the show. And then Bill found out his G4 Grandfather had told his descendents (through his will) to keep the slave couple together, let them live and on the 40 acres he had set aside for them and treat them humanly, as they had been raised with his own children. 4 years after his death, his children emancipated the two slaves (around 1850).
People some times get caught up in the culture they were born into, and it takes some character to overcome ideas you were raised with, if it turns out they were false. Something for everyone to consider before they get too eager to throw stones at one another.

There were huge Catholic demonstrations last year OPPOSING the government edicts 'normalizing' homosexuality. There is still a strong undercurrent of Catholic Christians in France.
And a lot of brave Frenchmen died covering the outskirts of Dunquerque while the British were being taken off the shore to withdraw to England.
They weren't cowards in early WWII, just very poorly led by very bad political generals. A society that had been taught to aquiesce to violence after the terrible bloody losses in the Great War.

If you are going to start digging into family history, you need to be prepared for anything. Apparently on one episode of those family hist shows, either the PBS one or Who Do You Think You Are, Wanda Sykes was a guest. She knew that she was of mixed black and white ancestry, but I think she was fully expecting that a black female slave had been raped by her white owner to make it come about, something cliche like that. Imagine her utter shock when she found out she descended from a white woman and a black man! I think it might have even been a love match, possibly, I can't remember. It kind of rocked her pretty hard.

A Galaxy Quest TV show is a bad idea. Half the fun of the movie lies in the fact that we don't see anything but a few scenes from the "tv show" during the film. It allows the audience to imagine what the show was like based on the characters in the film.
