Wow: ROTC Cadets Forced to Wear High Heels to Participate in Feminist Consciousness-Raising

So. Are we done now?

And they were forced to do this, many commenters claimed:

"They were threatened with negative counselling statements and OERs if they didn’t participate. It was pretty much" do this or we’ll kill your career before it even starts.'"

"Someone head to IG with this? Pretty sure this was a forced activity."

"Worthless ROTC commanders need to get booted for this incompetence.

As a combat vet this sickens me and is a setback for women in the military."

I blame the high command of the armed forces. There should be rampant resignations over Obama's maladministration -- instead, this cadre of careers throne-sniffers and apple-polishers just keep jockeying to see who can curry more of The Emperor's kind favor.

2 And this is utterly in keeping with the current (or I would argue throwback to Carter but worse) level of disdain for the actual job of breaking things and killing people that the military is supposed to do.

Also, bluntly, this whole walk a mile in her shoes thing requiring the wearing of heels is REALLY FUCKING SEXIST.

After all, all women only wear heels, right? Right.

Nothing helps your mission fail like losing complete sight of the job of the officers' corps, and then forcing participation in bullshit like this.

72 Want to know a weird fact?

Even though I visit AoSHQ every day, I don't have it "bookmarked" or "favorited" in my browser!

They way I navigate here, every single time, is by going to Hot Air (which I do have bookmarked), and then going to the right sidebar at Hot Air and clicking on the top entry in "Hot Links," which just happens to be Ace of Spades, because the list is alphabetical.

You might ask why I don't have AoS bookmarked if I come here every day -- am I crazy?

No. There is method to my madness. There are actually two reasons why I don't bookmark it.

First, by forcing myself to go through Hot Air to get here, I first see what Allahpundit and Ed have up, and that usually gives me either a preview of what Ace is going to post, or at a minimum gives me a framework for the narrative of the day's news. You see, because even when Ace doesn't post on the exact same topic as Hot Air, he posts second-level advanced analysis of what the day's zeitgeist is. So if one was a political newcomer visiting AoS as the first news site of the day, one would often be a bit overwhelmed at first, because Ace is playing thee-dimensional chess with the day's memes -- and if you don't even know what those memes are yet, one can take quite a bit of time to get up to speed. So by going to Hot Air, I first get a quick grok of the basics of the day's daily outrage, on a purely factual basis -- and then I click on Ace in the sidebar to get the advanced take on it.

The second reason is more prosaic. Visiting internet political sites is my personal "procrastination of choice," which I do when I need a break from doing work. And if I make getting to my favorite site that much more difficult, even by a little bit, then it helps me keep my nose to the grindstone and get more work done. Having a one-click AoS bookmark would just be too tempting. Think of it as a mild alcoholic keeping some nice bottles of wine in the house, for guests, but locking the cabinet and then putting the key at the bottom of the drawer. The liquor is still there tempting you, but by making it a little bit difficult to reach, you help yourself resist it more often.

Even though I visit AoSHQ every day, I don't have it "bookmarked" or "favorited" in my browser!

<snips>

Having a one-click AoS bookmark would just be
too tempting. Think of it as a mild alcoholic keeping some nice bottles
of wine in the house, for guests, but locking the cabinet and then
putting the key at the bottom of the drawer. The liquor is still there
tempting you, but by making it a little bit difficult to reach, you help
yourself resist it more often.

It's to late for me, my browser has a hotbar with a list of 'favorite visited' sites. Bing, my homepage is first, only because the browser opens with it, AoS is second.

Back to the subjected at hand.

Agreed. I have a very big soft spot in my heart for tall women. The only disadvantage (if it can be called that) is when you try to dance with them while they're wearing heels. I'm about 6' to 6'1" and I know I have to arc my arm up a lot more to twirl 5'11"+ around than I do 5'6"-5'7" to avoid hitting her in the head withmy arm. That's a pretty minor issue in the general scheme of things, though.

I have only the vaguest of recollections of being out for dinner and ignoring the people I used to know who worked on setting up one of these idiotic walks but I remember vague blathering about how it's supposed to be so uncomfortable for the men to help them comprehend the pain of being a woman and blah blah blah whatevercakes.

Noticed a pretty big drop off when GHWB became president, even though he as a veteran himself. Left the Navy and went back school and got my degree. Damn glad I left when I did.

The heels represent the rise of sexual assault within our community. In all seriousness, if this is what is happening, then we should really cut the budgets of the military. The US has in the past and can again mobilize when necessary. And during that next period of mobilization we'll have to clean house because clearly the current leadership is not ready for war. Why not just have a smaller house to clean when that day inevitably arrives.

http://www.cstringbikinis.com/

Posted by: alexthechick - SMOD/Orion Death Star 2016 at April 21, 2015 03:07 PM (mf5HN)

426 There is a KEY factor is both this ROTC-high-heels incident and the closely related "forces high school kids to wear hijabs" incidents (which crop up every now and then):

The reason to make ROTC wear high heels and the reason to make students wear hijabs is so that they empathize with and understand what it's like to be a women/muslim is "oppressive" garb and thereby get judged harshly by the bigoted eyes of society.

Or so the SJWs claim.

But here's the thing:

Those same SJWs ALSO (at various points in the past) have claimed that wearing high heels is a mark of oppression, like having bound feet in Imperial China. And also that wearing the hijab is a sign of the subjugation of women. And so, through the decades, in America, people have long fought against and eventually broken the social norms of needing to wear any kind of clothing at all.

So: Nobody forces women to wear high heels these days. And in America, you are also free to NOT wear a hijab if you don't want to.

Which means this:

If you as a women wear high heels in 2015, you do so because you WANT TO because you think it makes you sexy which gives you social power over others (over men, because you have mesmerized them, and over less attractive women, who can't compete with your high-heeled sexiness).

And if you wear a hijab in the US (as many radical Muslim college girls do these days), you do so as a power-statement, a challenge, a declaration of victory-through-minority-status.

Which brings us full circle: Although the ROTC cadets are supposed to be wearing the high heels so they can sympathize with the oppression of being a woman, in fact the act of women wearing high heels is their attempt to gain freedom and social power. So the entire exercise - -or the excuse proferred for it -- is fallacious.

So then we need to dig deeper and ponder: If the given justification for "high heel day" is sefl-evidently false, then what is the REAL justification.

And the answer is: To humiliate conservatives.

ROTC is associated with conservatives. Liberals tend not to sign up for it.

This is playground level "grind your nose in it" consciously implemented social humiliation of the "other." That's all.

Don't know. The problem is that if any of the cadets complains, they will probably lose their scholarship. They could sue, but in these PC times, they'll lose.

I'd guess that the best chance is with some senior who has nothing to lose and the Navy would be taking action to take his scholarship back.

And no administrator is going to dare besmirch this oh-so-important-and-politically-correct bit of onanism. Why these boys should be ashamed at not being eager to do this!

You are correct, sir. I had forgotten about that (kind of like Sandhurst). But the American analogue there is OCS right after basic for college graduates, which we do. For high school graduates, there is no college-plus-commission pathway like ROTC or the academies (except for engineers at the Ecole Polytechnique, where everyone is in the corps, but most do not go on active duty afterwards, sort of like VMI or the Citadel). To get a commission in France in any other way, you have to be enlisted first.

But yeah, if you pay quickly and follow the rules, you'll be on probation for a year and can't leave the state without your POs permission, and can get randomly drug tested and/or breathalyzed at any time, but after a year it all goes away.

627 This is what makes me think it is a huge mistake to think there is any validity in any "group" guilt, whether that group is constituted by a nation, ethnicity or gender. Because once you admit that, spiteful idiots of the aggrieved party will immediately begin punishing innocent parties on the "other side" for the crime of belonging to the wrong group. They will simply perpetuate injustice. Injustice should always be treated on an individual level. Or perhaps on the level of a gang against an individual. But not on a different scale than that.

Right, but then its not the weed, its something else. Cops will use minor infractions like one wheel gets on the center line for a second to pull over someone they know is a bad guy just to get a look at them, hoping they get something to haul them in on. Weed is like that; its not the infraction, its what else they're trying to accomplish.

Most cops are good guys, but all people have bad days, and all jobs have lousy workers in them. The best answer for that is a really strict and aggressive policy on dealing with bad guys. But self-policing doesn't really work for the cops any more than it does us :/

Right, the crime itself is minor. But in most states most of the time it will get you in the criminal justice system.

And for a lot of people, it's very difficult to get out.

You need thousands of dollars to pay for fines, fees, and "rehab" (huge scam), a lawyer, a lot of patience, someone to drive you to your community service and "rehab", you need to not drink or smoke weed for an entire year, and you need to talk to your probation officer every time you do anything.

"PO, I want to go to my sisters house next Friday. She's 62 miles away." then they want all of her information, and they notify the local police. Because when you're on probation you lose your right to privacy, so cops can make you piss or breathe in to a breathalyzer at any time. And of course they can search you without a warrant.

Long story short, this minor shit like pot possession is how most people originally get caught up in the criminal justice system.

Oh, sorry I said that wrong.

The probation comes from the marijuana ticket.

You plead guilty, pay a fine, and are then on probation for a year.

If you violate that probation at any point (often times for not having the money to pay for your court ordered 'rehab') then you go to jail.

However, as a military school grad and an Air Force veteran, I would tell these people to take their stiletto heels and shove them up their rectum. In addition, the shoes are completely out of regulations, and I would place a formal complaint through the chain of command.

672 I believe it when it was said it was a Cadet Command order, to which I can only add that while I don't know Army regs, I am fairly sure making cadets purchase non-official uniform items at their expense for unit wide mandatory functions is probably a big no-go. And even if it isn't--you can't do that to troopers, so you probably shouldn't be doing it in an officer training command--for how else will these future JOs know it wrong if it ever happens once they are commissioned?

Officers need to understand its lawful orders you obey. And you teach them that by giving lawful ones. So make sure they are.

Posted by: Horatius at April 21, 2015 07:54 PM (UKhBB)

674 I also wonder how many ankle sprains resulted from having folks who *never* before had used these things then did a mile hike in shoes not broken in. Really good example for the service that focuses on foot health of troops on the march. Real good leadership example. "Buy shoes at your own expense, walk on asphalt with them, never broken in, and you don't know how to walk on them." Super. Good way to teach JOs that it "do what I say because I say it, not do what our service says makes sense"

Posted by: Horatius at April 21, 2015 08:15 PM (UKhBB)

This is how true change begins.

Posted by: obsidian at April 22, 2015 11:20 AM (ARK2U)

681 Things like this don't just "happen". Everything is going according to plan. When the people in charge despise the military, you end up with a military that is despicable. If you want to destroy one of the greatest all volunteer forces for good in the world, you don't do it by attacking it openly. That would be too direct and they would close ranks. No. You do the same thing you did with all the other institutions of society. You infiltrate it. You subvert it. And then you simply make the conditions of service so disagreeable to honorable people that they either quit or just don't join in the first place. Then, in the interests of maintaining manning levels (and your budget) you begin accepting people that never would have been acceptable before. Task complete. Military gutted. Without firing a shot.
