In Russia, serfs were property that was taxed (called a souls tax).

Gogol wrote a really good novel called "Dead Souls" about the practice of selling dead souls that were on the books and taxable between censuses. The noble selling the dead souls got tax relief and the one buying the dead souls got entirely fictitious property that could then be used to secure loans.

Affleck has fallen prey to a logical fallacy which claims that people alive today are culpable for the actions and choices of people in the distant past, simply because they are genetically related.

If my granddaddy was Charles Manson, that doesn't make me ANYTHING. With rare exception, crime exists at the individual level, not the group level, nor the level of the family tree.

99 Lee #97 is 100% right. We don't get to choose our family or our ancestors. The Bible is very clear that the sins of our fathers are not to be passed along. Affleck may be a brain-dead limousine liberal, but he should not be held responsible.
The real issues are: PBS did a liberal a favor that it would never have granted a conservative; Skip Gates is a creep for asking for the favor instead of telling Affleck that he has no responsibility for the acts of his ancestors - but to do that would go against the claim for reparations and the whole White Guilt narrative. The other important point is that once again, the British press printed another story that embarrassed American liberals, like the DiCaprio story, while the American press is too busy chasing the Scooby-Doo Van.

Translation: they don't step off the SJW plantation. Maakies author is right: millenials are babies, and they are also neutered. Who cares, cp is a non-essential nonentity in the world, but it is a good pointer to how the Greatest Generation has led to the Grating Generation.

The sanctimony and smug self-satisfaction of the above article is kind of hilarious, really. The author is totally oblivious to the fact that far from being some sort of enlightened sword of social justice, rejecting the old order and asserting his independence like a teen ager who declares he is an adult now and will wear his batcape wherever he deems fit, he is the symbol of the bullying, censorious drones of groupthink, and anyone guilty of thought-crimes against the herd will be silenced and ostracized. Any actual diversity of thought must be weeded out.
