10 I have a friend who is crusading against Common Core and making
progress. She has been relentless in finding out details on the methods
and curriculum and distributing information about what will come and
options to opt out. She has gone to numerous meetings and has managed
to get her kids exempt from much of the mandatory testing. Only problem
I see is she repeats some leftwing talking points about how
corporations are making money off the testing (mostly true but not the
real issue here) and doesn't fully understand the curriculum will be used
later to push a completely progressive PC view of American history down
the kids throat across the whole nation (which most are getting already
to some degree) . Other than that she gets it and has been very
effective so far.

Oh, she is an employee of the Cleveland public
schools (although her kids attend nice suburban schools where she
lives) And guess which party she supports and will vote for in 2016?
That's right, she will undoubtedly pull the lever for Hillary who not
only supports Common Core but would like something even more intrusive,
standardized and propagandized. Maddening. Absolutely maddening.

13 I'm getting more and more inured to stuff like this.

A Democrat (probably Hillary) will win the White House. Republicans may maintain the Congress, but conservatives have lost.

There is no silent majority. We're what's left and we're outnumbered.

The fact that we're right doesn't even factor into the equation.

19 As to the Maryland kids saga, the reason there will not be any outcry is a form of cognitive dissonance. DC area Marylanders are, in general, the very people who strongly approve of government "nudging" (control).

21 Many an Iowan has ripped out his corn field, put in a baseball diamond, hoping dead ballplayers would show up. Instead, the only ones who showed up were Bob Costner and Kevin Kostas.

Iowans quickly realized if you wanted Costner and Kostas to show up, you didn't need to destroy your corn field. All you really needed to do was put a massage parlor in a strip mall, and have it manned by midget trannies.

27 Hillary had a campaign event at a hotel right in my then-neighborhood when she ran for the Senate.

The entire event was staged. Locals could not get tickets, because there were no tickets. The entire audience consisted of bussed-in ringers.

Not that I would have voted for her in a million years, but since it was a big event with a famous person and right down the street, I had thought maybe we could walk over and at least get a glimpse of the swells, but it was not to be. You couldn't get within a block before being stopped by temporary fences and security.

The EC path is simply not there anymore when the Donks start out with over 200 electoral votes right out of the gate and no chance of the GOP flipping those states.

The GOP literally has to sweep the rest to win.

Common Core has so much wrong with it but it seems, in my community especially, that nobody cares -- at all.
In order to get the mass numbers necessary to fight it we need to attract anyone & everyone. So knowing your lefty friend is fighting it, even if her reasoning is only due to the corporate $$$ aspect, is still a good thing. She's leading a charge that will help the cause, & may ultimately be a large dark spot in not only Hillary, but Jeb as well.

36 Ack! I just posted this comment in the ONT:

Re the Maryland free-range kids - I grew up and still live in the same county where these kids live. When I was in elementary school I had to walk 3/4 of a mile to school. The kids across the street got to ride the bus. There was no expectation that parents where shadowing the walkers or walking with us. No expectation that the parents set up a 'walking school bus'. The last part of the walk was through a wooded area to reach the playground behind the school. Periodically there were reports of a pervert hanging out in the woods, so we kids were warned to walk through the woods in groups, not singly, and student patrols were assigned to monitor the bridge over the stream. As an 11-year-old I was a student patrol and was assigned to escort the half-day kindergartners through the woods and to the road so they could continue walking home, by themselves if their parents weren't there to meet them.

In other words, when I was growing up, the Board of Ed expected us to do exactly what the free-range kids were doing - get ourselves home without parental supervision. And if an 11-year-old child was considered an appropriate escort for a 5-year-old, why is everyone outraged at a 10-year-old supervising his 6-year-old sister? As far as I know, the kids in my old neighborhood are still walking to elementary school, up to 3/4 mile, by themselves if their parents can't/won't drive them or walk with them.

She is also completely unaware that Hillary and other Dem politicians would like to destroy her nice suburban schools by flooding them will illegal immigrants. The invasion hasn't overwhelmed Ohio yet so she is barely aware of the problem and swallows the whole compassion BS about all kids must be take care of, even if they are from another planet. Her kids will graduate before the wave hits there and ruins the schools.

Bush Sr. got 426 Electoral votes in '88. Reagan got 525 in '84. I think maybe the fault lies not in a country that has changed that much in a couple decades. I think it is a bankrupt Republican Party that has given away state after state after state because it offers them no conservative alternative.

Governing!:

Congress closes in on deal to renew Patriot Act provisions

On June 1, three portions of the Patriot Act are set to expire, including the controversial Section 215 which allows the government to collect "any tangible things" as part of a terrorism investigation. The NSA has used the authority to collect bulk metadata about Americans phone calls.

House Intelligence Committee began briefing lawmakers about the details of the Patriot Act, in what Chairman Devin Nunes (R-Calif.) called "an educational process of how the three expiring provisions actually work and function in the intelligence community." Nunes said he would support a straight reauthorization, which he predicted should be able to pass Congress.

One really nasty thing about that story was how the cops held the kids at the police station for hours without notifying the parents. Because they wanted to make the parents sweat. If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without blood shed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves.

That's because they've been told that their problems are because of republicans.

These are people far too stupid to understand basic economics, so it's unfair to think they can figure it out for themselves. The media is no help, because they are either just as stupid or they want to cover up for the democrats.

Republicans need to base a presidential election, with all the advertising power it brings, on how democrats have been using blacks and the poor while keeping them down for decades.

Focus on Social Security and how they prevented Ronald Reagan and everyone since from converting SS to individual accounts. Show charts on how much your average AA Detroit dweller would have in their own account if it had been switched in 1980.

Then explain that blacks die young compared to everyone else and how SS keeps their money, while the individual accounts would be inherited by their families.

Hammer home how this "scheme" has kept the poor from being owners and under the thumb of crooked politicians like Harry Reid.

Use a tag line that is similar to "Don't be a Chump, vote for yourself this time."

The democrats would shit themselves.

What if the police decided that their home did not possess adequate security, and decided to break in and rob them, in order to teach them a lesson? Yeah, they should sue. I'm no lawyer, but imho you can't justify an illegal, sadistic activity on the grounds that it will "teach someone a lesson" even if you intend to reverse it in the future. Wasn't there a family that got in trouble for pretending to kidnap a kid in order to frighten him into not talking to strangers? This is just as bad, if not worse, since these idiots were abusing their authority.

133 Notice the punishment meted out to the parents of "free range kids" only applies to white middle class parents? It's not like the cops are arresting parents in the barrios and inner cities for letting their kids run around loose in much more dangerous environments, although we just heard about an unsupervised 2 year old who ran out into the street and got run over (and then driver and kids half brother got shot.)

The purpose is not only to drive home the point that Big Brother Government knows best, it's to continue to make child-rearing so onerous and burdensome for the middle class that they only have 1 or 2 at the very most. I've heard young people today say "I don't know how those parents in the old days ('40's-60's) did it when they had 4 or 5 or 6 kids." They did it because society didn't expect them to hover over their offspring every second of the day. If you needed a babysitter, you hired the 12 year old down the block for 50 cents an hour - not a "professional caregiver."

Gay marriage passed in Iowa because the supreme court here made it legal. The legal world is already firmly in the liberals grasp, so the rest of the state doesn't matter. On that note, Des Moines and the eastern third of the state are pretty liberal, which is why the state is purple/light blue on national elections, despite the rural appearance.

So, they must be Made an Example Of, to keep their Heresies from spreading to the Common People, which would damage the Social Compact and the Common Good and diminish the State. Or something to that effect.

Yeah, I'd like to see the parents sue the shit out of the cops and bureaucrats, but I reckon that the odds are against them. They just need to get themselves and their kids out of the Montgomery County asylum.
