Exactly. Thank you. A lot of nitwits seem to think Issa had enormous powers and failed to use them. He didn't. He was only a committee chairman, with very circumscribed powers, and yet did yeoman's work in ferreting out government malfeasance. No, he didn't get anyone convicted, but then he didn't have the power to do so, either. Prosecutions have to go through the Department of Justice, and when you've cited the AG for contempt of Congress, you can pretty much forget about prosecutions. Blame Holder for not doing his job, not Issa - he did his.

Part of that is surely due to limitations of committees and votes, but so much of the table pounding is sound and fury signifying nothing.

Good point, and well taken. Committees exist to hold hearings to get information out to the public (just as the press is supposed to do as well). That's their function, and Issa fulfilled it, much as the Kefauver and Army/McCarthy hearings did. The fact that nothing came of it in this case is a reflection on our broken political class (specifically that asshole Holder), and the stupidity/ ignorance/ indifference of the idiots in the electorate.

I've met Issa and followed his act here in CA for years. Not impressed. He's a panderer and opportunist even by Congressional standards, and he'll do just enough to grab the headlines without really rocking the boat. Holder has pissed on Congress and he's still laughing at Issa's committee, just as Hillary has and will with her investigations. Results would require appointing special prosecutors, and that would have required taking Holder on head-on, which no one had the stones to do. Not all Issa's fault, Boehner and other leadership share in that as well, but Darrell's no standard bearer. He's lousy on stealth jihad and immigration as well, FWIW. Not a fan.

Once in AK I got caught in the barracks for a detail. They took us to the arms room where we checked out our M16's. There was four of us and we were all saying and thinking, "Ah, shit"!
They threw us into a quarter ton and took us out to the range where they wanted us to burn off 4000 rounds of excess ammo.
Best military detail I was ever on.

It needs to be totally over the top outrageous, with content like Ace's last line. A cable-only show. No mainstream advertisers. That's the hook. Rush can't and couldn't do that - he's selling ads. Fox can't do it either. If Showtime was smart, they'd counter-program HBO with it, go for broke, and I think it would work. But the content would really have to be edgy, perhaps in ways that not all conservatives would appreciate.
That's just me.
