Welcome to Our Illegal Immigration Clusterf*ck

Let's see if I can summarize:

(1) The Hill has taken to calling unaccompanied children who have arrived in this country illegally "unaccompanied immigrant children."

(2) There are groups who have government contracts to take care of such children.

(3) Quite a few of these children have been raped.

(4) The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops is one of the groups that has such a government contract.

(5) The administration has proposed that such contractors be required by the government "to provide access to contraception and abortion for unaccompanied immigrant children who have been raped."

(6) The Catholic bishops are objecting to fulfilling the contraception/abortion requirement.

(7) The ACLU is suing, not the bishops, but the Obama administration, in order to gain access to "documents it says will show religious organizations are restricting access to abortions for unaccompanied immigrant children."

(8 ) The bishops believe their right to refuse comes under the recently-in-the-limelight federal Religious Freedom Restoration Act.

10 Things You Might Not Know About 'Anne of Green Gables'

It's big in Japan and by big I mean really big. And surprising it was also popular with the WWII Polish underground:

Anne of Green Gables was translated, although not officially, into Polish in 1912. This pirated copy, under the spurious author name "Anne Montgomery," would become hugely popular and deeply important to Poland over the next 40 years and beyond. During World War II, the Polish resistance issued copies of Anne of Green Gables to its fighters as a reminder of what they were fighting for and to emphasize the values of family, loyalty, and selflessness-all of the things that plucky Anne seemed to embody. After the War and during the Communist occupation, the book was suppressed as subversive, largely due to its themes of resisting authority and the importance and value of the individual. The book was big on the black market; the copies sold there were often patched together from personal copies that hadn't been confiscated.

Every time it started to let up, it would come again in another wave. I didn't know hail would go on that long, but at least there was no tornado behind it...

I remember a show remarking that Goliath may have just been an unusually large man for the time (6'2", 200lbs) going up agin a normal sized guy at the time (5'4", 130lbs) and the little guy being particularly smart.

Eh. I don't think Kincannon's over-the-top insults and tweet rants at anyone who crossed him were helping the right's cause anyway. That's why I used to joke that conservative groups should get together and pay him a monthly stipend to not tweet.

What's sad is that say 3-4 years ago he was actually a pretty funny guy on Twitter. And then I started noticing that there were fewer and fewer gaps in time when he wasn't tweeting something. And he started getting steadily nastier and un-funnier.

113 "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, ..."

A government agency, duly created by law, entering into a contract with a religion, Catholics in this case, would seem to skirting near a violation of the First Amendment. The government seems to be either "pro" something or "anti" something and seems to have lost the notion of the third choice, namely fiercely neutral and without opinion. This is what the Founders intended in many respects of life: religion, speech, commerce.

Then, regardless of the consequences to civil society, wait until they are surrounded in a hostage-taking situation (you know it will happen) and then use the outdoor option to end the problem without endangering yourself or your future in public service. No more police violence for a population that hates your guts. Wise up! (In other words, just give the guy the finger as he runs away this next time. Screw it. The public hates you anyhow. They don't care about oaths or honor in those "communities", any more than they care about getting a job or paying their child support. Why should you?! Maybe not. Don't think so linearly; it may not be warranted. Think about how much yardage the Reds and the fruits have made (especially with corporate America) far out of proportion to their numbers or indeed even their support, solely by being willing to kick up a stink. A few well-publicized cases might be all it would take to scare government bureaucrats into line, particularly given their risk aversion. So be of good cheer - it may take less than you'd think.

She's mending nicely and going great guns with her therapy, so all is well. We're going to watch a couple seasons of Game of Thrones while sipping gin and tonics.

I see myself being Little Edie to her Big Edie, with a dash of Whatever Happened to Baby Jane. She's even threatened to ring a little bell for service. More ice!

205 I been ranting about this since RS revealed their perfidy.

Can we start seeing this person's full name?

Calling her Jackie still allows her some cover and I think it's time she faced the full attention of everyone.

I seen it rumored her name is Coakley. Is that true? I don't know but why do we continue to afford this lying witch anymore anonymity in light of what we're all pretty sure was blatant lies with malice aforethought.

She lied to punish, she lied to manipulate, she lied so as to present herself as a heroine deserving of sympathy and be pointed to as some sort of model of strength in the face of adversity.

She had no concerns for the feelings, sensibilities, reputations or potential physical incarceration her lies could have led to. (let's be honest how well might her story have been investigated if it had been aimed at a Black basketball/football team in some Podunk school somewhere?)

She needs to BE the example she strove for, just not the positive one she built up in her rabbit assed mind.

So to reiterate:

1) what's her full name?
2) When it's known how's about everyone start using it in every story.

Otherwise I haven't seen where this evil perpetrator of lies has had any punishment for her actions.

Time to correct that before the story moves on.

222 While Jackie may have cried rape, she wasn't willing to pursue any charges. She was just trying really hard to get in some guy's pants, and then the lie sort of took a life of its own. Of course, she started the mess and made no attempt to rectify it, but she wasn't headhunting frat guys, or at least that's what I recall from the story.

Erdely came along and really laid it on thick. I wonder if the shattered glass portion of the story was an intentional troll job by her, or the reference whooshed over her head without triggering any sort of pause. I mean, aside from the sheer incredulity of Jackie having large shards of glass piercing her back, the Stephen Glass reference was uncanny, almost too coincidental.

310 Most movies (especially the duds) are about Hollywood's angst.

Sometimes it's about the angsty angst of being angsty.

365 Lately I've read that even the night time bombing by the brits wasn't much better and their casualties were more than I thought they were.

Posted by: Bitter Clinger and All That at April 08, 2015 01:44 AM

At night, the bf-110's came into their own. The 110's punched HARD and were very well suited as bomber interceptors.

Posted by: otho at April 08, 2015 01:55 AM (tBSrv)

366 Bitter Clinger, for the amount of casualties suffered by both the British and the Americans, I think strategic bombing was pretty much a wash. They did serious damage to Germany's infrastructure, but they never did diminish the morale of the German people. In fact, German military production was at its peak in the autumn of 1944.
On the other hand, it did take West Germany until the 1980's to say that the destruction caused by Allied bombing was finally recovered.
And they still occasionally run into an unexploded bomb while doing construction.

Washington would be a more geographical mid point.

I'm just realizing I got Soldier field further south than it is.

Wrong museum as land mark.

So comiskey is further south than soldier field.

My bad. Hey I haven't been near the place for 30 years.

371 Yeah, the BF110 fitted with the Schrage Musik guns were very effective. It would allow the fighter to fly below and behind the English bombers, and because it fire upwards, it was a very destructive weapon.

375 Posted by: Bitter Clinger and All That at April 08, 2015 01:44 AM
Also, IIRC... up against the 110's and other nightfighter types, the defensive gunners were seriously handicapped. The wise thing to do was NOT fire on a spotted nightfighter... at least not until you were sure you were made, by which time the nightfighter was on you. It made hitting the nightfighter easier, for what it was worth. You had to wait until the last couple of seconds sort of thing. When you opened up at range, you'd bring a shitstorm down on you from any other nightfighters in the area.

Posted by: dartist
-------------------------
I've been there. Mid 90's, I think. Buddy wasn't there, but I saw Bella Fleck & someone else (that was a lot of brain cells ago). Great time - very cool club.

I got in the cab & told the driver "take us to Rosa's Lounge. I want to see Melvin Taylor, dammit." He started driving, then turned around & said "look, son. I ain't takin' you two out of town white boys to that side of town. Not at this time of night. You want good blues? I'll take you someplace cool, and you'll be talking about it twenty years from now."

I did get to see Buddy Guy when he came to Norfolk with BB King a few years ago. Sadly, BB is way past his prime and it showed. But, in his 70's, Buddy ran around and jammed like a young buck. He burned the house down. GREAT show! Even if you're not a blues fan, go see Buddy Guy if you get the chance. Seriously, skip paying the water bill that month if you have to. His show is that good.

I'll bet I let pass at least 3 bronze stars and a bunch of others that fought in both theatres that I was just too stupid to ask until they passed. Guys that survived Bataan, Pearl Harbor, Saipan, Normandy. Just too fucking dumb as a kid to ask or comprehend. 418 That Anne of Green Gables anime from 1979 is pretty good, actually. It's a far more faithful adaptation of the book than anything else that's aired on TV, including the Megan Follows miniseries. It includes nearly every story from the novel, only adds one that was completely new (an adaptation of a chapter from Emily of New Moon, also from L.M. Montgomery), was worked on by a pre-Studio Ghibli Hayao Miyazaki for the first third of the series, and yet has never gotten any English-language release. You can get the anime in Japanese, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, French, German, Arabic, Chinese, Korean, but not in its native language for some reason.

Is there anybody in there?
Just nod if you can hear me.
Is there anyone home?
Come on now
I hear you're feeling down.
Well I can ease your pain
Get you on your feet again.
Relax.
I'll need some information first.
Just the basic facts.
Can you show me where it hurts?

There is no pain you are receding
A distant ship smoke on the horizon.
You are only coming through in waves.
Your lips move but I can't hear what you're saying.
When I was a child I had a fever
My hands felt just like two balloons.
Now I've got that feeling once again
I can't explain you would not understand
This is not how I am.
I have become comfortably numb.

O.K.
Just a little pinprick.
There'll be no more, ah!
But you may feel a little sick.
Can you stand up?
I do believe it's working, good.
That'll keep you going through the show
Come on it's time to go.

There is no pain you are receding
A distant ship, smoke on the horizon.
You are only coming through in waves.
Your lips move but I can't hear what you're saying.
When I was a child
I caught a fleeting glimpse
Out of the corner of my eye.
I turned to look but it was gone
I cannot put my finger on it now
The child is grown,
The dream is gone.
I have become comfortably numb.
