I'm just curious -- when EW claims it "misinterpreted" stories in "news" publications -- does it just mean fucking left wing blogs?

Do they mean the fantastically left-wing Guardian, and its various Comment is Free blogs?

Are blogs considered trusted media if (and only if) they're leftwing?

I don't know how many actual "news" organizations reported this -- though I did see lots of slanted coverage in leftwing blogs. io9, for example, which, I think, is a Gawker aggregation blog.

Larry and company has said over and over that the actual people connected to the awards have never been anything but 100% professional in the way they handled things.

They groups they have problems with are the "Superfen," people who are peripherally connected to the con and others in the SF publishing business.

I don't think you have anything to worry about giving them your personal information.

Can't speak for all generations, but not true for mine. A lot of SFF readers had the same experience I did: that this award really, truly used to be a reliable guide to stuff that was worth reading. You might not like it, but you would certainly acknowledge that it was good and worthy. At some point, that went off the rails. It just was no longer true. In fact, like the National Book Award, it was nearly the opposite of true -- you would best avoid a book with this award. That is what SP is trying to reclaim -- or, if they cannot reclaim it, at least to demonstrate what has happened.

It had an interesting concept (a parallel universe where Neanderthal won out is connected to our universe) and had won the award for Best Novel. I managed to stick it out, but it's just bizarre leftist propaganda.

The Neanderthal world is the liberal paradise. The Neanderthal protagonist explains that belief in God is illogical and idiotic. All Neanderthals have cameras that monitor and archive everything they do at all times. Neanderthal men spend most of their lives in gay relationships, only occasionally mating with females. Not doing so makes no sense. Neanderthals live side-by-side with the noble mammoths, unlike the evil humans who make animals extinct. Crime is answered by castrating the offender, his parents, siblings, and children.

It's very preachy, and things I listed above and others are all clearly things the author supports while humanity is demonized. It also has a rape scene that should disqualify it from any award for good writing. Reading that book told me a lot about what the Hugo Awards are all about.

No, sir. Not this time. I took a minor ration of sh!t yesterday for praising Rolling Stone for going to a third party and publishing that report that ripped their reporting and their "process" to shreds. This was straight-up nasty unchecked libel. It was inexcusable.
