Building Explosion in NYC

What happened here is confused: First Shep Smith said it was a collapse which probably ruptured a gas line, now he has on a guy who says the event began with a first-floor explosion.

They don't know yet if people are trapped in the building.

The building is at 125 2nd Avenue, near 7th Street.

But based on that photo, there cannot possibly be any living people trapped.

Not much reported out in print yet.

But when life gives you lemons, make lemonaid.

Who brought the marshmallows and roasting sticks?

At which point I repeat one of my sub-rants from my omnibus Big Corn is Evil rant.

I was raised to understand that roasting marshmallows is an art. You turn them on the stick at just the right place to make the skin golden and crispy. You pull off that skin, eat its lusciousness, and hold the remaining part of the marshmallow by the fire.

If done correctly you could get 7 or 8 skins from a marshmallow, then eat the gooey gob that remained.

I can not teach my children this art because marshmallows are now made of corn syrup, not sugar, and you're lucky to get 2 skins off of one.

219 OT -

Saw this over at Gates of Vienna.

Obama is snubbing the new head of NATO, Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg. Apparently Stoltenberg, the former Prime Minister of Norway, has met with nearly every other NATO leader, and for a while now his team has been attempting to set something up with the White House. They've received no response. Stoltenberg is now in Washington, after meeting with Prime Minister Harper of Canada. But Obama, who is currently in Washington himself, evidently has more important things to do.

Mr. Walker's "no amnesty" position, first articulated earlier this year, was a change from his prior decadelong support for a pathway to citizenship. He has explained in public that his shift to a more restrictive view came after consulting with border-state governors and hearing from people opposed to citizenship for undocumented immigrants.

But during the March 13 private dinner, organized by New Hampshire Republican Party Chairwoman Jennifer Horn at the Copper Door Restaurant in Bedford, N.H., Mr. Walker said undocumented immigrants shouldn't be deported, and he mocked 2012 GOP nominee Mitt Romney's suggestion that they would "self-deport," according to people who were there.

At a 2002 Mexican Independence Day event in Milwaukee, Wis., Mr. Walker, then the county executive, signed a resolution that praised the economic and civic contributions of undocumented immigrants and called for "a new program similar to the Federal amnesty program enacted by Congress in 1986."

In 2006, Mr. Walker signed another county resolution backing the immigration proposal written by Sens. John McCain (R., Ariz.) and Edward Kennedy (D., Mass.) that would have granted legal status to many illegal immigrants.

As late as 2013, Mr. Walker told Politico he backed a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants and told the Wausau Daily Herald more border security wasn't necessary.

377 tad more (seems like some contortions being made, and out of context, but some more)

Mr. Walker has shifted his stances on other aspects of immigration law. In May 2010, after Arizona lawmakers passed tough restrictions on illegal immigrants, Mr. Walker told the Associated Press he had "serious concerns" about the law because it "impedes on the inherent right of the federal government to do its job and to protect our borders, and also because in America we don't want our citizens getting pulled over because of how they look."

Hours later, Mr. Walker, then in a Republican primary for governor, reversed himself. "I too would sign the Arizona immigration bill," he said, after conservatives inundated his Facebook page to criticize his first position.

There are lots of them. Two years ago at Christmas, a transformer blew up in the middle of the night in my neighborhood, setting a bunch of stuff between two apartment buildings on fire and dropping live power lines near one of the buildings. Two guys from the neighborhood started pounding on doors trying to wake people up and get them out to safety, while another guy and I found a hose and started spraying down the fire before it could spread.

By the time the fire department arrived and took over, there were dozens of people on the street taking pictures of themselves "at the big fire".

Ace does believe in God. He's just too depraved and rebellious to admit it. But I don't think that's what Phil Robertson is getting at. I think Phil's an arminian.
I wish Ace would take a bit of time to study Christian apologetics so that he'd realize what it is he's arguing against.

So, today we found out that Obama leaked secret info about Israel, that
he is giving away the store to Iran and that he has refused to meet with
the head of NATO. I haven't heard a peep of outrage from any
politician on our side. Has anyone else? I hope they're all meeting
among themselves figuring out how to present a united front against the
President--but I doubt it. If they don't want to impeach I bet we have
grounds for a 25th amendment removal (mental health).
---------------------
Our politicians have repeatedly asked politely (with varying degrees of nice) for Obummer to act with them, or at least tell them what he was going to do before he did it. But Mister "I Won" hasn't even bothered to do that once. I would say the GOP has washed its hands of attempts at bipartisanship and is looking forward to 2017.

I've been here a long time. Ace has no idea about theology, patristics, soteriology, ecclesiology, apologetics, or anything else even remotely related to religion. He's not interested, and that's fine. It's his blog, his point of view and he's free to have it. Not a problem

I just want him to stop pretending he knows what he's talking about there and to stop arguing like a liberal about religion and then pretend he's doing no such thing.

Yes.

Whether it's safe or not, I don't know.

I have been told that it is true of dogs, and I would presume it to be true of cats, that just about anything you would give to children can be given to a pet as far as medicine goes.

If you don't like it, well 3 million stubborn-ass Republicans sat home on election day of 2012 knowing full well what would come if Obummer got a second term. About a hundred people or so disappear under odd circumstances in U.S.
parks and reserves every year. I reckon those are the special breed of
idiots who wanted a selfie with Sasquatch.

Posted by: exdem13 at March 26, 2015 05:36 PM (/mTq0)

There's a series of books about that phenomenon - Missing 411 by David Paulides.
---------------------------
I was gonna hold that until Sunday reading, but yes they are there! I've only read the first book, and it nearly convinced me to never go solo into the wilderness, or at least never turn my brain off while I'm there. Pallides, who has published two great books on Bigfoot California Indian lore, has deliberately avoided "disappearance = Bigfoot" conclusions. However, a few of them do seem like wrong day-wrong place-wrong 'Squatch incidents.

I can still see some granola-swilling hiker seeing a Sasquatch giving him the stink-eye from behind a tree and thinking "Oh, like wow, dude, I can get a selfie and totally prove I was with Bigfoot. Like, he's a totally gnarly furry forest man." And then he becomes a 'missing 411' category case....

Posted by: exdem13 at March 26, 2015 05:58 PM (/mTq0)

479 True.

But sometimes you have to prove to him that he didn't reason himself into his position.
Posted by: AllenG (DedicatedTenther) - TrueCon at March 26, 2015 05:55 PM (kff5f)

For those who believe, no proof is necessary. For those who dont believe, no proof is possible.

But I would say....the proof is able to be apprehended by reason...except by the exceedingly obtuse, or the exceedingly proud.

In all honesty, you will not live to see that happen if you routinely try to administer medicine to your cat via suppository. Your cat will be the one etching things into your tombstone with its claws.

490 But sometimes you have to prove to him that he didn't reason himself into his position.

I don't think you use reason to do that.

Dialectic vs rhetoric - if they run off feelings, you attack the feelings, not the reasoning. "Yes, atheists are horrible people because they can't grasp elementary moral truths".

Been reading a blogger who continuously illustrates this concept with respect to atheists and the Left.

In the past, I didn't understand why those online gaming friends wouldn't see my good intentions; armed with this new perspective, now I do.

494 "i think themossad will win this pissing contest."

Rather as with the CIA, there has been a strong leftward drift in the ideology of the upper reaches of Mossad.

There was once a time when retired Mossad men were famous for not being famous. Rigorous in their self-imposed silence and obscurity.

Now, you see former Mossad head Meir Dagan openly voicing his personal opinions about the Iranian nuclear program, and as openly criticizing Netanyahu's foreign policy.
