WH Doubles Down on "Reformer" Alejandro Mayorkas

To recap: The Deputy Homeland Security Advisor has the "appearance" of being corrupt and doing Big Dollar favors for connected Democrats, says the Inspector General of the DHS.

Just so you understand the Ca$h Money Ju$tice angle here: The EB-5 program grants permanent resident visas to foreigners who invest at least $500,000 in a US company.

Well, if you're a leftist connected to the Obama Administration, then, and want a lot of foreign money given to you in the form of "investments," you would certainly want to make sure your Big Dollar "Investment" Investors are getting their Cash Money Green Cards from the DHS, right?

You wouldn't want those held up, right? You wouldn't want them, egads, denied over security concerns, right?

No, you'd want your Cash Money Partners to get their Cash Money Green Cards that they paid for. Otherwise, what would be the point in investing in your Government Subsidized Boondoggle?

The Washington Times:

Alejandro Mayorkas, who was elevated from head of the department's legal immigration agency to be deputy secretary while the investigation was ongoing, also angered many of his colleagues by getting involved in the cases, and "created an appearance of favoritism and special access" for the wealthy immigrants, the inspector general concluded.

Inspector General John Roth said the cases involved major Democrats: former Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell, Sen. Harry Reid, Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe and Anthony Rodham, brother of former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton.

In each case, pressure from those individuals helped earn favorable treatment, Mr. Roth said

And dig this: There are some real security risks attached to some of these new fellow American residents.

Five different Homeland Security whistleblowers spoke with ABC News about a range of cases where visas were approved despite numerous red flags. They said objections were often ignored because the immigration program is so popular within the Obama Administration and with members of Congress from both parties. As the EB-5 visa program has grown in popularity, the programs critics have become increasingly concerned about the administration’s failure to adequately address abuses that have continued to surface.

"It is shocking," Sen. Charles Grassley, an Iowa Republican said at the time. "Particularly when you have F.B.I. and other law enforcement agencies that are saying national security could be compromised or is being compromised -- that's enough for us to be concerned."

...

The Inspector General report released Tuesday said investigators had interviewed 15 whistleblowers, a group that included "very senior" department officials and attorneys "who each had direct contact with Mr. Mayorkas and were in a position to witness the events."

"Each conveyed the same factual scenario,” the report said. "Certain applicants and stakeholders received preferential access to DHS leadership and preferential treatment in either the handling of their application or petition or regarding the merits of the application or petition… Many witnesses provided emails, written contemporaneously with the events, to support their allegations of special access and treatment."

...

One of the projects studied in the report – the electric car start-up venture once overseen by McAuliffe and supported by Rodham – has already proven to be politically combustible.

The immigrant funding became fodder for attacks on McAuliffe during his 2013 run for governor. McAuliffe was accused by political opponents of trying to prod Mayorkas and later then-Sec. Janet Napolitano to approve visas for investors more quickly. He denied, however, that he sought undue influence. Rodham oversaw the EB-5 financing aspect of the business through a separate venture, called Gulf Coast Funds Management Regional Center. He also emailed Mayorkas in a push to speed up processing of immigrant visas, the report says.

...

When it appeared the electric car venture was headed for a denial, "Mr. Mayorkas told his staff that he wanted to review the decision..." the report says. "Many EB-5 officials found this highly unusual because past USCIS Directors typically had not scrutinized individual decisions; they found this level of scrutiny unsettling."

When Hillary Clinton's brother calls up to say "My 'investors' aren't getting the Cash Money Green Cards they paid for!!!," you need a man like Mayorkas to Get Cash Money Returns on Your Investments.

Now, when the White House found out about this, they went into their standard "We learned about this when you did" and "We're as outraged as anybody" act.

Kidding! They actually defended him to the hilt, calling him a "decorated civil servant" and "tireless reformer," who was Just Tryin' To Help a Brotha Out with this burdensome EB-5 system.

Watch that video. I'll wait.

Mayorkas says he was jus' tryin' to fix a "broken system." Broken in the sense, I guess, that it wasn't Delivering Deliverables to Democratic Donors and Henchmen at a rapid enough pace.

And they're defending it.

Because they don't care.

All the masks have come off.

For years now we've seen nothing but degradation and corruption of an increasingly histrionic, shameless, and outrageous nature. And no real response by the country, or its "representatives".

There are no real standards any more, the electorate itself (esp. the "educated" NPR coastal/urban clueless class) has no clue or pride or standards. Institutions are, for the most part, a farce.

It took many many years and much effort to create something that has been essentially hollowed out and discarded in less than a generation.

These airline crash investigations are always interesting because the manufacturer of the aircraft and the manufacturers of all the parts want the fault to be anyone's but theirs.

On the other hand, the government wants it not to be due to their negligence (not screening terrorists thoroughly or allowing terrorists to roam free in the first place).

And, finally, the airline doesn't want their pilot or mechanics to be blamed.

104 @45 - No, no, no.

This administration came into office in 2009 believing in that Permanent Democrat Majority, they were sure they'd have at least six and probably eight full years in control of both houses of Congress and could do literally anything they wanted, law be damned, ethics be damned.

The 2010 Congressional elections were a nasty surprise, but they eventually figured they could stiff-arm the House and business continued as usual.

This Administration has thrown exactly one significant appointee - Shinseki - under the bus. Sebelius got the benefit of the doubt. This ATF guy who ate dirt last week is an anomaly, he probably got canned for retracting the ban not for promulgating it in the first place.

This administration will defend to the death, or nearly so, anyone who acts in pursuit of their political goals even if that pursuit results in some embarrassment, as long as the effort was pushed aggressively enough - even illegally.

But I want the American people to understand how this effort will be different from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. It will not involve American combat troops fighting on foreign soil. This counter-terrorism campaign will be waged through a steady, relentless effort to take out ISIL wherever they exist using our air power and our support for partner forces on the ground. This strategy of taking out terrorists who threaten us, while supporting partners on the front lines, is one that we have successfully pursued in Yemen and Somalia for years.

1.24 hrs per flight average. IOW, puddle jumper. (Southwest Airlines -Dallas to Houston)

Second greatest plane ever built. I'd have to give #1 to the SR71 Blackbird but I wold not quibble if you pushed the B-52 to #1

Actually the just reported the voice recorder was successfully down loaded and the recording goes right up to the crash.

Yes, but it hasn't told them anything conclusive except that there was no explosion.

Lufthansa has an airplane fleet age of 12.4 years. The US carrier Allegiant in comparison, its fleet age is 23 years.

188 @164 - yeah, age isn't that significant but flights matters a lot.

Interesting that it was so close to design life on BOTH hours AND cycles.

Someone at Lufthansa's done a really good job managing their inventory to the book.

Man. I really went into the wrong industry.

I know, right? I considered it, but this pesky conscience
thing...no wonder it's full of lawyers, they have theirs surgically
removed at graduation from law school, just sayin'...

Posted by: Brother Cavil, Unrepresented Christian Objectivist at March 25, 2015 02:49 PM (DT3rQ)"

I remember someone who was working his way through law school as a professional gambler. After talking to him for a while it turns out that the way you make a living at gambling is to learn the skill of playing poker and then find out when the compulsive gamblers get paid and where they go to lose their money so that you can show up there and clean them out. You also need to recognize the other professionals and don't play against them, don't be greedy. Everybody gets to go home with some money except the degenerate gamblers.

This seemed to me as excellent training for a career in law. It is important to deaden and kill any last remnants of human compassion or sympathy.

Things like that will prevent my family from ever flying. Ever.

I'm the only one who will hop on an airplane. o.O I just love flying... but preferably not on a plane that really needs retirement.

Posted by: Kinley Ardal at March 25, 2015 03:08 PM (9LuAk)

193 @192 - I've routinely flown around in stuff built not long after I was born. Of course, lightplanes often don't accumulate a whole lot of flight hours. You care a lot more about who's doing the maintenance.

194 "They said objections were often ignored because the immigration program
is so popular within the Obama Administration and with members of
Congress from both parties."

Ahh, yes. The requisite "both parties" meme. Funny about how all the big names in the story are big time democrats. I'm sure the press just left out the repub names to stay in the good graces of the GOP.

They may look the same but they aren't. My older brother used to work on that avionic gear at Warner Robbins. They did those and the A-10. The A-10 avionics were literally shaken to pieces every time they fired that main gun.

'Fuck' is the single greatest word in the English language.

Can be used for almost every human emotion.

I still get a chuckle from one episode of "The Wire" where two detectives were examining a crime scene and the dialog consisted of nothing but the the two detectives saying "fuck" with different intonation.

198 Let me get this straight. Harry Reid helped dangerous people get into the country in exchange for bribes?

If he doesn't go to jail, then why should I follow the laws regarding taxes, guns, and not taking other people's stuff?

Posted by: adolfo_velasquez at March 25, 2015 04:18 PM (T1Jm0)

199 I could make a killing by packing my trunk full of immigrants and slipping them across the border for a small fee. Harry Reid does it, so it can't be wrong.
