Since Blomkamp (District 9) is involved in it, look for a heavy serving of a ham-fisted message in the movie. Perhaps the Leviathan is actually a gentle, intelligent creature, and our thirst for its eggs is akin to our "thirst" for oil and gas. Or maybe the Leviathan actually is the progenitor of the species in District 9 and wants revenge on humanity for our poor treatment of the "prawns".
