Latest Agency Obama Uses to Push His Socialist Politics On the Nation? FEMA

This is so insane I don't even know what to say.

If I thought this Administration were clever, which I do not, I would guess that they are specifically using FEMA as their newest clawhammer for authoritarian lawlessness because they want to rile up conspiracy theorists to say conspiracy-theory type things. (In case you don't know, there have been FEMA conspiracy theories for almost as long as there has been FEMA.)

But I don't think they're doing that.

I think they're just trying to destroy the American system of ordered liberty.

FEMA to deny funds to warming deniers

States whose governors refuse to acknowledge climate change will not get preparedness aid.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency is making it tougher for governors to deny man-made climate change. Starting next year, the agency will approve disaster-preparedness funds only for states whose governors approve hazard-mitigation plans that address climate change.

This may put several Republican governors who maintain that the Earth isn't warming due to human activities, or prefer to take no action, in a political bind. Their position may block their states' access to hundreds of millions of dollars in FEMA funds. In the last five years, the agency has awarded an average $1 billion a year in grants to states and territories for taking steps to mitigate the effects of disasters.

"If a state has a climate denier governor that doesn't want to accept a plan, that would risk mitigation work not getting done because of politics," said Becky Hammer, an attorney with the Natural Resources Defense Council's water program. "The governor would be increasing the risk to citizens in that state" because of his climate beliefs.

The aid in question is for pre-disaster preparedness -- preparing for hurricanes, floods, etc. It's not about the aid that follows a disaster.

Even so, Obama is now threatening people's lives unless they sing his Cult's hymnals.

AllahPundit wonders what Chris Christie will do about this. He thinks that even Christie will be strongly inclined to oppose Obama's latest burst of authoritarian fascism.

I can't wait until a Republican president uses the same lack-of-any-authority to conditional all federal dollars for children's health upon governor's certification that abortion is now illegal in their states.

Yes, the GOP has lurched far to the left, and now stands where the Democrats used to stand about 15 years ago. But the Democrats have since then lurched even farther to the left, and are now out in Stalin territory.

In these fresh circumstances, the lesser of two evils is looking mighty tempting.

128 from Wiki: (Sounds like what O would do)

When buildings were burning, Crassus and his purposely-trained crew would show up, and Crassus would offer to purchase the presumably doomed property and perhaps neighboring endangered properties from their owners for speculatively low sums; if the purchase offer was accepted, Crassus would then use his army of some 500 slaves which he purchased due to their knowledge of architecture and building to put the fire out, sometimes before too much damage had been done: otherwise Crassus would use his crews to rebuild. If his purchase offers were not accepted, then Crassus would not engage in firefighting.

147 I took a course at GWU from a guy who was #2 at the Clinton FEMA under James Lee Witt.

The FEMA folks loved that guy because they said that he "got" preparedness and was not just a political appointee. However, when he came in, he picked loyal Democrats for the leadership positions (the guy said this proudly, btw).

And, they pioneered the use of FEMA for political leverage. For example, FEMA first gave money for snow removal to Charlotte, NC, who had a loyal Democrat mayor. Other southern locales were not covered by it.

This is what big government does in the hands of Democrats. It is all a big patronage game. They aren't here to represent all of us, they are there to enrich and empower their cronies.

my biggest worry about the 2016 election is that in the race for the throne, or oval office, despite everyone wanting to take down the evil that is the dems (aka Lannisters with their Joffrey puppet), the GOP (which covers the Baratheon brothers, Robb Stark, the Greyjoys, etc) will all go off on their own agendas, all fail, and the Lannisters stay in power. I don;t mind spirited debating factions for the throne, that is a healthy part of democracy, but we need to play it smart, if there is any chance of retaking the throne from the dems. I don't know what that looks like, but mortally wounding all conservative candidates before the primaries is not the answer, I can tell you that.

Disaster preparedness not disaster relief. So the state will get the money after the hurricane or tornado hits along with the media blaming the governor for how much damage there was because he "played politics over preparing his state for the increased damage of global warming powered disasters."

Yes, the GOP has lurched far to the left, and now stands where the Democrats used to stand about 15 years ago. But the Democrats have since then lurched even farther to the left, and are now out in Stalin territory."

Eisenhower sent Federal troops into a State during his administration - the Dems haven't tried that one since Grover Cleveland. So the GOP has been pretty cool with Statist power for quite a while - hell, it was *founded* in part on the idea that Federal power had primacy over State power.

You're also mixing your political metaphors - fascists (like Mussolini) are national socialists. Communists (like Stalin) are international socialists - the two don't really like each other much. The GOP are more the former, the Dems are more the latter.

275 I think Cruz was smart to pick Liberty to announce his run.

He knew it would be a mostly supportive crowd, and he could lay out his overall policy, for now.

276 Taxing people for disaster coverage, then withholding such coverage also conjures the phrase "taxation without representation" for some strange reason, too.

Why do these phrases sound familiar?

277 <y friends if Obama were to hold back funds and assistance to a white red state it would be nothing to fear.

278 I have a fifty that say within the next 18 months Obama declares that FEMA will not assist any area with more than 80% white people.

280 @233: "yeah all these Nazi and Holocaust reference are a tad over the top and not in really good taste"

Democide is rarely tastefully done. It's not here yet, you can see the smoke on the horizon. Every day, the Statists demonize us all a little bit more. It used to be sort of comical. Then it was annoying. Every year, they get bolder and more outrageous. Think of who their heroes are: most of history's greatest mass-murderers. The further down this road we go, the more likely the distasteful outcome.

285 The aid in question is for pre-disaster preparedness -- preparing for hurricanes, floods, etc.

Failure to prepare for predictable natural events can/will make that event into a man made disaster.

And we all know what "man made disaster" is an Obama euphemism for _______ism.

286 They can stuff their aid. Bar FEMA from the state. It will make it harder to put us into the "Fun Camps".

288 Wanna know what's awesome about this??? During oral arguments at the SCOTUS for the Obamacare subsidy case, Kennedy raised an argument, that if adopted by the Supreme Court, would make this kind of administrative action unconstitutional (though probably uphold the subsidies). I hope the conservatives prevail in the subsidy case, but there would be a silver lining if they follow Kennedy's argument.

289 Yeah. Well, check this out. Feds asking banks to report on people withdrawing their own cash.

They already do this. & if you try to get around it by withdrawing less than the reporting threshold, they'll freeze your bank account & prosecute you for "structured withdrawals" (& you won't qualify for a pro-bono lawyer, because you have money in the bank, & you can't hire a lawyer because your money is frozen).

290 Really now, lets stop fighting abortion. Who is getting all of those abortions after all? Its better than paying for their welfare for 79 years, really. Its not like any of those, from those kinds of communities, are going to really contribute much to society in the bigger scheme of things. They were only going to take up space in jails, not cure cancer. Get real. If God really wants them here, he will put them back onto the wheel and make a better choice for them the next time around.

291 The engineering company I work for helps small communities develop their hazard mitigation plans. The Feds require the States to develop these plans to receive Federal money in the event of a disaster.

What the States do is they push the mandate down to the local municipalities. Here in Georgia, its pushed down to the County level. Each County (with each incorporated jurisdiction) is required to update their plan every 5 years....or they get $0 if a tornado destroys their town.

The State gives grants to the Countys...so the money the State gets from the Feds is dispersed to each County.

The cost of updating the plans can be as little as $15k. The ones I have worked on have been in the $20-$30k range. It depends on how large the county is and how urbanized it is. I mainly deal with rural counties.

This is the perfect example of how the Federal purse can be used to change behavior. Each of these counties doesn't have the 20-30k needed to update the plan...at least not they way FEMA wants them updated...with the data that is required. Small Counties have to hire engineers/planners who can help them.

If they do not get the State grant, they will not be able to afford the cost of updating the plan without passing that cost onto the taxpayers by having to either cut services somewhere or raise the millage rate.

So the Feds have you over a barrel. If you DONT toe the line, you get no money for your plan...if you DONT have a plan, you get no Federal disaster money....so you have no choice...

I guess that means, unless this changes, I will be having to add Global warming-cooling-change-weather to my plans.

That is going to sting....
