28 >>I don't trust Rand. I do sort of trust Cruz

Yep. I would not vote for Rand even in the general. He's jumped all over some of these (supposedly) racist shootings too often and implied that the GOP is anti-black. He's too focused on the War On Drugs (let it go, man). And the minimal record of service he has in public life is not impressive.

I am not on Team Cruz (not yet, anyway) -- and personally I don't see how he'd win b/c I don't think he'll have the donors -- but he elevates the debate. If he stays positive w/ the other conservative candidates (he can verbally eviscerate Jeb for all I care), I'm happy to have him in the mix.

He hasn't called me a racist. And he's not relying on a Cult of Personality formed by his crazy Papa.

And he's the only one I'd really trust to make a good SCOTUS pick.

29 I wonder how they'll deal with Dershowitz' comment that Cruz was brilliant off the chart.

California Gov. Jerry Brown (D), speaking Sunday on NBC's "Meet the Press," deemed Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Tex.)"unfit" to run for president because of his views on climate change.

"That man betokens such a level of ignorance and a direct falsification of the existing scientific data," he said. "It's shocking, and I think that man has rendered himself absolutely unfit to be running for office."

Brown said there should be urgency to deal with climate change. "I think this almost has to be at the level of a crusade," he said.

[so what's the first thing you d in a crusade, Governor? Kill the unbelievers?]

77 Linc, I wonder if you've ever heard this one.

Guy has a flat tire, right outside the fence of the State Hospital. So he pulls the hubcap, jacks her up, and removes all five lugnuts, setting them safely in the hubcap. As he goes for the spare, he steps on the hubcap and catapults the full set of nuts into the ditch water.

As he contemplates his situation, an inmate standing inside the fence speaks up and says, "You know, you could just pull one nut from each of the other wheels, and you'd be fine to get to a gas station." The driver is astounded. "How could you figure that out?" he asks the loony.

"Hey, I'm crazy. I'm not stupid."
And that's a Just The Punchline all over the place.

110 I have an idea for a thread -- Trolling Tips.

Share tips and advice for tactics, techniques, and procedures for trolling the Left.

Here's a simple one: I keep a page of handy references and (imo) clever one-liners grouped by topic. So I can often just copy and paste. I use that on twitter.

Left's constant accusations of racism, sexism, and homo/trans/Islamo-phobia are perfect examples of trolling. It lets the troller disrupt and control the conversation.

Right needs to get better at trolling back. It often involves making inflammatory accusations that are difficult to defend.

144 For trolling, a key is to not get emotional yourself. That makes you less effective. You are trying to get them upset, make them lash out stupidly.

I find I get more upset when I type a mean insult than when I just copy and paste the same insult.

The person receiving has no idea whether I typed it or copy/pasted it. Their reaction is the same regardless.

But I find if I type out angry, mean, or accusatory stuff - I end up getting emotional, which tires me out.

If I just copy-paste something I wrote a month ago when I was angry - then I don't get angry now.

I still get to counter the Left's moonbattery, but I don't get fatigued.

I think this is typical. Ppl get tired and fatigued when they get in emotional arguments.

That's why trolling is effective. The person getting trolled gets so upset they leave, or they do/say something stupid which hurts their cause.

Anyone who's spent time arguing online knows it takes an emotional toll -- which can spill over to your job and personal life.

So ways to effectively argue (and even troll) while protecting yourself from the emotional fatigue, make you more effective at spreading your ideas. You can do it better, for longer. It increases stamina.

Excellent example. The prog you're arguing with either has to let your use of "Third Iraq War" go unchallenged - or they have to take time and effort to argue against it. 156 Speaking of Alinksy and other scum, what does the Horde think of this idea?

We propose to increase welfare, EITC, (and/or other) benefits by, say, 15%, but also to make everyone "pay their fair share" in taxes. Then we tax welfare benefits back down to 105% of their current levels. Make the LIVs and welfare parasites actually write a check or peel off $100 bills or face having the difference deducted from next year's handout.

The beauty of this: we can campaign on raising welfare payments (true), AND of making people pay their "fair share." Make the Reds try to convince LIQ voters that they're not going to be as well off as they think ("But Ah gets mo' money!") by producing tables and charts (good luck convincing the double digit IQ club with that). At the same time we can scream "make people pay their fair share!" and watch idiots vote for it, never realizing that that group includes them.

The logic is, of course, that once people have cash in hand, however briefly, they consider it theirs, and hate to part with it, especially to the tax man. Next time some a-hole proposes raising taxes, they'll break out in hives, even though they're not net payers of tax. It would strangle all Red demagoguery in its crib.

Moreover, to avoid this, the Commies would have to simultaneously oppose an increase in benefits, AND argue against making everyone "pay their fair share," thereby neatly scuppering two of their most cherished proposals.

I once trolled a moonbat on Moonbattery (appropriately enough), just as an experiment. At every turn I'd loudly accuse him of racism, and then impute a invidious action to him, and accuse him of THAT. )E.g., "Sure, you say you support the blacks, but you wouldn't want your sister to marry one! Typical hypocritical liberal! And you live in a lily white neighborhood, doing your best to prevent blacks from moving in! You disgust me, and all decent people, you racist!")

In short, I did exactly what liberals do: pile on calumny and baseless accusations faster than he could address them, and I did it just to find out what he'd do. Answer: after a while, he collapsed.

Moral: it's much, much easier to make up and throw shit than it is to refute shit. Don't bother with defense: go on offense. Baseless allegations are still allegations, and, like water dripping on a rock, gradually take their toll. As we know only too well, from sad experience.

167 Whenever the Leftist says something about paying "more" or "fair share" etc., I like to ask "How much? Give me a number." But they never do. It's always just MORE.

Make them argue facts and figures for a change, rather than us. And if/when they oppose the proposal, repeatedly scream "WHY DO WANT TO HOLD WOMEN DOWN?? WHY DO YOU HATE GAIA, AND THE POLAR BEARS??? HOW MUCH ARE YOU GETTING PAID BY BIG OIL????"

In short, go with a purely emotional response, with zero ratiocination involved.

170 With environmentalists, I just constantly attack them as backwards religious fanatics. Which they hate.

With feminists, I attack them as mentally ill basket cases.

For rape activists spreading the 1 in 5 lie, I accuse them of lying about rape. Bonus points, accuse them of fear and hatred of black male sexuality.

I say things I believe. I believe environmentalism is a nature cult. I believe Rape Culture is a lie. I believe feminists mostly are mentally ill.

I argue on my terms, but always attack. Refute and attack.

"Jesus Lyndon, we can't call this guy a pig fucker"!

173 "Which means they couldn't steal the election. No absentee voting and strict voter ID laws"

Quite. That's why the elite Obama team of campaign operatives who were shipped in then proved unable to deliver the goods against Bibi.

They were able to bus Arab and leftist voters to the polling places, but what they couldn't do was what they do here, which is bus their voters BETWEEN MULTIPLE polling places.

Take deliberate systematic vote fraud out of their quiver and suddenly they look a whole lot less electorally formidable.

We must all remember that the next time that Luap Nard pipes up about how Voter ID needs to be done away with because "it's offending people". Yeah, it's offending those who are gaming the system illegally.

177 Torque I agree. I think if we did away with absentee voting and had strict voter ID we would be shocked by how much elections would change. I know eliminating absentee voting affects military people. But let's face it. Right now they almost never count military vote in US elections.

About 100 years ago, canned salmon was popular. Then along comes canned tuna as a competitor. The tuna people finished every pitch with "And it doesn't turn pink in the can!"

This was true: Tuna doesn't turn pink in the can. Neither does salmon. But the implication that the reason why canned salmon is (y'know) salmon-colored was because it turned pink in the can turned a lot of people off.

(Don't know what the parallel would be but feel free to go with it.)

Not necessarily. Some bennies are taxable and some can be garnished directly.
At 25%.
Practically all you have to do is line up one list of recipients with a list of tax payers, circle the ones on the first list that don't match and send three letters, and follow up with a garnishment letter.

Easier and more cost efficient than chasing taxpayers with accountants and lawyers.

186 "I know eliminating absentee voting affects military people. But let's face it. Right now they almost never count military vote in US elections."

This chaps the hell out of my hide.

The Pentagon has poured, no joke, hundreds of billions of bucks into implementing high bandwidth digital communications over most of the face of the planet.

There is absolutely no reason whatsoever for service personnel on deployment to be having to vote on paper ballots and ship them by Piper Cub airmail back Stateside.

If I ran the zoo, the services would vote first, having all in uniform who desire to vote clocked in. If the service vote is delayed in delivery, the civvy election gets pushed back too, with all attendant costly consequences. That wouldn't happen more than once, you can assume.

But tapper is covering it. Why is it news. People being rude to each other is news now? I think it's outrage trolling. It's clear to me that the "personalities" covering "news" are evaluated in part by how they trend of social media. Which turns them into "outrage trolls"

Why apologize? I agree with you.

However, there is one thing a bureaucrat loves: results with as little hassle as possible. Garnishments for taxes are loved by lower-level tax peons, it means no contact with the taxpayer and everything is done automatically by form letter.

I'm pretty sure they can get TP back and forth so the paper isn't the problem.

It'd be easy to make an auditable, secret, fraud-proof, secure, etc., etc., etc. paper system. That we don't is proof the Political Class is untrustworthy.

That is so pathetic. Starbucks closed its shops in Israel in 2003 allegedly for "operational reasons not related to politics" though the real reason was likely not to jeopardize its business in Arab countries. The *only* reason people are "accusing" Starbucks of supporting Israel is because Schultz himself is Jewish. What a self-hater.

200 I wish Cruz could win, but I don't think it will be in this world. The country that voted for Obama will not vote for Cruz. The Dems will feel particularly threatened by a Hispanic Republican and will give him the Sarah Palin treatment.

Cruz doesn't seem charismatic enough to overcome all of the attacks. I'm sure thirty or so people will now call me a liberal or 'concerned' conservative.

201 Each individual's share of the Atmosphere is 18 acres by 20 miles high or 8 trillion cubic feet. In order to heat the atmosphere by two degrees each person on the planet would have to raise the temperature of his or her 8 trillion cubic feet by two degrees simultaneously. There is not enough fossil fuel on the planet to even begin to do that.

Each individual's share of the air weighs approximately 92 million lbs. Do you seriously believe everyone on the planet could each afford to heat 92 million lbs of anything? The Sun - which is an enormous fusion engine 100,000 times as big as the Earth - is only able to heat the atmosphere to about 70 degrees. Remember the temperature drops during the night because the Earth radiates away so much energy during the night. Carbon dioxide is 0.03% of the Earth's atmosphere. It used to be much higher - without any disastrous consequences.

In other words: man made global warming is an absolutely absurd proposition.
