62 I've noticed in the technical trade press that what appears to be automated article generation is sneaking in.

This has been being talked about in the AI community for a while.

Take a corporate press release, trim it, extract a pull quote or two, discern the general intent, generate some simply worded verbiage restating and summarizing the intent, stick the pull quote in the middle, add a stock photograph, and you have an article ready for press.

Which begs the question, what happens when you run a similar algorithm on the output of the first one?

So that's the future of "journalism". Bots diligently and endlessly recycling previous bullshit factoids and ridiculous listicles.

Basically Vox Just Repackages Old #SlateTakes And Presents Them As New Content

In tablet friendly form.

Reading the feed, looks like Engber is the author of the Slate stories, humbleplaing about "his" stories being used as grist for the Vox-mill.

In which case, welcome to the internet. As long as Vox is staying within the plagiarism lines, as Engber explicitly states they are, no foul.

Although, think it would be smarter to just type up a list of the eventual Vox stories you came with up first, and ask about getting on the Vox staff to get the big Vox bucks. He gets nothing from just being all hissy about it.

So he should grow up, and stop worrying about plagiarism.

214 Went to P-town last summer with a big group who had never been before. A 10 and 13 year old included, it was a lot tamer than when I was a kid. No Speedo-clad bodybuilders making out on the corner, no stinky witches walking their pet skunks down Commercial St. It was early June, still before the high season, so that may explain the difference. It's a great place to go for a day trip, and the dunes/beaches/parks on the Atlantic side are world class. Good bars, right off the dock seafood, all that Cape-y stuff.

I think it was April 1, 1997 that we had huge blizzard.

it happen.

Well, the redesign itself would be prohibitively expensive. To get her entire forehead in the frame, they'd either have to make her rendering tiny or change the size of the banknote to 5" x 7".

Shame he didn't support them a few years ago when they were protesting the Iranian government.

I don't think he's worried about the survivors of the "Green Revolution." He's BFFs with the mullahs and their stooges. In essence, the same guys the people wanted to topple back then.

320 Uh, under what authority can they do this?

"Bureaucrats from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) will weigh
and measure children in daycare as part of a study mandated by First
Lady Michelle Obama's Healthy Hunger-Free Kids Act.

The agency published a notice in the Federal Register on Friday
proposing data collection on what meals are served in professional and
home daycare facilities and how much physical activity children perform."

How soon before this is implemented in schools, both public and private?

__________

You can usually tell how good a movie will be by the commercials. Good movies tell you what the movie is about. Shitty movies tell you who is in the movie. Every commercial for the Gunman makes it a point to tell me Sean Penn is in it while not really saying much about what the story's about.

327 @138 Thought it was 10% nationwide. Who's doing the math? NDT?
------------------

CDC study a few years ago put the total at less than 2% nationwide. The reason people thought it was higher was because the earlier studies "massaged" the data by gathering from areas that had higher than normal percentages of LGB.
