Mickey Kaus Quits Daily Caller, After Tucker Carlson Pulls Column Critical of FoxNews' Soft-on-Amnesty Corporate Positioning

Here's another story that makes me very angry:

A few days ago, Mickey Kaus had an article that I wanted to link, but I didn't, for some reason.

The article was something like, How Fox Makes It Easy for Amnesty Supporters in the GOP.

His claim was this (and it's hard to argue against): While the issue consuming the conservative movement for two weeks was Boehner's final betrayal of conservatives (resulting in my own leaving the party and the movement, for that matter), Fox News ran very few stories at all about this.

I love Megyn Kelly. I think she's a superstar and deserves to be one.

And don't get me wrong -- she's hot. A real smokeshow. Face like an angel and an ass like a young Kiefer Sutherland.

But I also think she is, as many educated people are, very establishment.

She assumes that people like me and you are trashy and uneducated. She doesn't realize that half of us have better education credentials than she does. If you tell her that, she will shrug, and think a different thought--They are still Social Lessers because they believe Crazy Things.

I still think she's great, do not get me wrong. But she is Establishment as all get out, and she thinks she's Supposed to Be Establishment because Law School Degree. Like, she thinks this is something Major, and that no one with such Incredible Achievements could possibly think crude, grassroots-type things.

I can be a fan while recognizing her limitations.

Anyway, while all of this was going on, Megyn Kelly chose to do [some large number X] segments about IS, while doing [some very small number Y] stories about amnesty, or the GOP's lying to its base every two years.

Which is the sort of position that Rupert Murdoch just happens to Love. He's very pro-amnesty. So in fact is his paper, the Wall Street Journal.

Other Fox shows likewise demonstrated a very "meh" attitude on the only thing conservatives were talking about.

So Mickey Kaus's point was simple: Fox News -- deliberately? -- pushes a whole bunch of upsetting stuff on its viewers as a substitute for and diversion away from the issue that was really animating conservatives those two weeks, to wit, the complete victory of the Donor Base Establishment on amnesty, while sticking the knife in the base's backs.

As usual.

Don't get me wrong: Of course Kelly's reporting on IS was important. However, when you have five one-hour shows per week to fill, it does strike me that a few of them could be devoted to this amnesty sell-out.

But Fox gets away with this, because they're allegedly super "conservative," and because, who else you got?

Well, anyway, it was a good column and it made me think and ask some questions, which is of course not permitted in America 2015.

So Tucker Carlson (a Fox news employee, coincidentally!) pulled the column (that's why I can't link it -- it exists only in my mind, now) and Mickey Kaus quit.

"It's pretty simple," Kaus said in an interview, "I wrote a piece attacking Fox for not being the opposition on immigration and amnesty -- for filling up the airwaves with reports on ISIS and terrorism, and not fulfilling their responsibility of being the opposition on amnesty and immigration.... I posted it at 6:30 in the morning. When I got up, Tucker had taken it down. He said, 'We can't trash Fox on the site. I work there.'"

They just will not permit you to even begin asking the Questions that could result in their defeat.

I don't know about you but I am tired of living in a Corporate Hierarchy and a Managed Democracy.

If I sound like a Radical, it's because I am.

Update: Shoutingboy tells me that Kaus has posted the Forbidden Column on his own website, and I believe him.

8 I read Mickey's "new" blog today and was surprised he was told to remove it. WTH. It speaks well of him to quit and resume his own gig. I've never understood how Fox News is supposed to be so trusted. They are conservative only when compared to the hard-left, group-think, progressive MSM outlets.

10 The governing class has found that as long as they give you the appearance of having a choice in the policies that they implement, most people will accept it.

Europe is a little further along in these lines then we are of course - what you can vote Left, Center, or Right...but no matter which party wins you get exactly the same left wing policies - look at the UK as a prime example...

There is no intellectual consistency in the Republican Party because that would interfere with their money raising projects with all the PACs, lobbyists, etc., that fund much of the campaigning for Republicans, which gets them re-elected, so they can do it all over again.

And the Democrats are the same, and worse, because they use the money in the budget to buy votes from people, by promising them all sorts of "free" stuff. They get the PAC money to perform all sorts of legislative tricks AND steal our money to buy votes from the economic bottom 40 per-cent or so of the population .

Ain't that America, for you and me?

Apparently a lot of juicy stories he had in the queue got axed, and he finally got fed up by it.

He pretty heavily stated that FOX News is partly funded by not a small amount of oil money, and sheiks, and that their interests trump getting out actual news. Plus whatever views Murdoch wants presented as well.

Whether you love or hate Beck, there are huge kernels of truth in what he is saying. I think more stories like this will trickle out, as they should.

Unless there was some explicit no Fox bashing written policy, then Tucker is being even more asshatty than usual.

Now, he very well may have such a term in his contract (that's an utter WAG) but Kaus doesn't.

Also Streisand Effect, baby, now everyone (for certain values of everyone) knows about this.

Before anyone throws my you can't insult your clients comment in my face, in this case, Kaus was wholly unaware that Fox News was one of his clients. That's a very different kettle of fish.

I just had this experience recently myself. I spent about an hour chatting with a State "Tea Party" candidate. He just barely lost last election to the GOPe guy but is planning on taking him next time. During our conversation he talked about how he had gone into business out of Law school, kids, schools etc.; lots of things. I walked away from the meeting however feeling that this guy considers himself a far superior human being than most proles. Maybe he is--I don't know and I suppose I wouldn't now would I? Although he talks a great game about the GOPe being sell outs he is just as concerned about how to manage the unwashed masses. I will still vote for him but I know he is selling me a cardboard cutout.
The Law is supposed to keep civilized Society from devolving back to feudal times but I think it educates a certain segment into understanding how to become Wolves among Sheep.

Welcome to the Hobbit Fedayeen, Ace.

How many pages at DC are filled with righteous indignation at the Prog Media Complex? Carlson just did more to prove David Brock's natterings about the corrupt and biased "right wing media" than anything Brock himself has ever written.

Is there any media source left in the US that values integrity and diversity of opinion over slavish narrative building for some special interest?

It's not as if the anti-amnesty crowd is the frigging John Birch Society - they're a huge part of the right wing base, and a good chunk of lefties as well.

If DC was a public company and I were a stockholder, I'd be calling for Carlson's head for conflict of interest and conduct detrimental to DC's corporate mission - namely to make money by appealing to right-wing readers, not to prostitute his alleged media outlet into a propaganda arm of the increasingly dubious Murdoch enterprise.

And unfortunately the law is black letter law - if you are are going to have it codified. This is a limitation for the most part, not a virtue. Because things that should be crimes are not and things that shouldn't be are not because of technical definitions.

It is a system - it is a way of looking at law and how law should operate - and therefore how people should operate.

It is backwards. And it is not how our real system of law evolved.

The supreme law of the land is a few pages, yet the law that governs are daily lives is hundreds of thousands of pages long.

185 153 -

To be honest, there IS a degree of hostility toward the average person. But the real problem is that we're creating professionals whose job it is to "do something", which means regulation. Success doesn't mean a functioning society, it means "fixing a problem". So (at least in law school) things are very geared to finding "problems" and designing "fixes" which means government.

The idea that the problem is just part of life in a free society never enters the conversation.

His next big passion project is a movie about Murdoch, that he hopes utterly destroys him. We'll see if it manages to do that. I wonder if he's be surprised to learn a lot of conservatives won't completely hate this film? No love lost for Murdosh form them either.

Posted by: Aetius451AD at March 18, 2015 06:45 PM (wt/Oq)

297 Just a quick reminder here.

Last year, the USA spent on average twelve thousand dollars per pupil on K-12 education.

A category which includes education provided to the children of immigrants, whether legal or illegal.

So when we think about "hard working" Pedro and Maria, think that if Pedro and Maria have just ONE little nino in the U.S. public schools, and if Pedro and Maria and their kid are making no other demands on U.S. social services, Pedro and Maria between them have to be making enough money and paying enough taxes so that they kick in twelve grand a year.

Just to make the deal of having them in this country net out to zero.

Consider that Pedro and Maria, as low skill, low literacy workers, even if they faithfully report all income and file all taxes (very rarely the case), and even if they're not cheating on things like the widely abused EITC, are almost certainly not going to be paying that much into the kitty.

That's just considering the one single factor of education spending. It gets far worse when you expand the scope of the analysis to include other outlays. Mass immigration is a terrible deal for the public fisc. It's an enormous budget and deficit time bomb.
