Mostly Peaceful Protesters Shoot Two Police Officers, One in the Shoulder, One Peacefully in the Face

In Ferguson.

I'm thinking we just wall this area off and let them "police themselves."

Number of questions Obama and Hillary Clinton will face about this incident: Zero

See, this incident is embarrassing to them and a wedge issue, splitting, as it does, their radical base from the liberal moderates they still need, so the media will make sure it never becomes a difficult issue for them.

Two police officers in Ferguson, Missouri, were shot and wounded in what officials called an ambush early on Thursday, the latest spasm of violence arising from months of tension between African-Americans and the city's mostly white police force.

The officers were treated and released from hospital, St Louis County Police said. Police Chief Jon Belmar earlier said a manhunt was under way for a suspect or suspects.

A 41-year-old officer from the St. Louis County Police was struck in the shoulder and a 32-year-old officer from the nearby Webster Groves Police Department had a bullet lodged near his ear after it passed through his cheek, Belmar said.

"This is really an ambush, is what it is," Belmar said. "You can't see it coming. You don't understand that it's going to happen."

The left is having spasms that people on the right are suggesting that these shootings just might be the result of a viciously false narrative peddled by the radical left, the President, and their fellow travelers in the media.

In every other shooting, the left goes looking for the toxic politics that animated the shooting, and tries to connect it with a politician's words; here, they're aghast that anyone would be so gauche to do that.

20 According to accounts, there were about 120 protestors in front of the Ferguson PD; there were about 40 cops on hand (from various local departments) to 'monitor' the protests.

At one of our local Tea Party protests, we had about 500 attendees; there were 2 cops on hand. We were ENTIRELY peaceful; I suppose that's the difference from a MOSTLY peaceful protest. Also, the total # of cop cars and businesses we burned was zero.

When liberals start blubbering about Ferguson and The Gentle Giant, I suggest that they move into high crime areas. 51 "I'm thinking we just wall this area off and let them 'police themselves.'"

If you listen to the detailed demands of the Ferguson protesters, self-policing is just the beginning.

What they are calling for is a parallel and totally independent police force for black areas. With all black officers and a black chief, and an all black oversight board.

They also want a parallel and independent city council, with all black city councillors, black city legal counsel, and a black mayor.

Education likewise. A parallel and independent school system. Specific schools for blacks with Afrocentric curricula, all black teachers and an all black school board.

Pretty much in every particular down to the sewer commission, they want their own structure of governance without any white influence.

I've been batting around ideas along this line. Such a model really requires a catchy slogan that sums up the key concept in a few words. Here's the best one I've come up with so far: "Separate but equal."

Whaddaya think? Does this have legs?

It wasn't even Ferguson cops that got shot. I'm wondering how long until all the police around here just go "fuck it" and quit, since apparently you can get sent to that hellhole from miles away.

I should probably write my city council and say "we're not sending any cops right? Because the hell I want my police force taking any risks for nothing." (IIRC Creve Coeur may have actually declined sending cops at the start, but honestly I forget.)

You and I are thinking along the same lines. I may have sympathy for the County cop who was shot, but St. Louis County is responsible for the mess that exists, with municipalities all over the place, and no clear boundaries between County responsibilities and the municipalities.

But Webster Groves??? Ferguson is straight up North County. Webster Groves is south and west. Nowhere near Ferguson. Their muny cops have NO BUSINESS being there!

This is not correct. The liberal moderate needs the radical to frighten and threaten. The liberal moderate will use these protests to advance their agenda. This violence is a useful tool for the liberal moderate. The "Liberal moderates" to whom he's referring are the LIV Liberals. The ones who vote based on feels and "there oughtta be a LAW!"

They would be outraged and embarrassed to be directly tied to this kind of behavior. Their self image absolutely denies it.

Therefore it is a wedge issue. They can "sympathize with the plight" of the Ferguson rioters, but they cannot condone rioting. If they were forced to actually examine the facts, they would reject it totally.

Except that's pretty much the way things were when this whole thing blew up in the first place. Ferguson is a municipality, set up by the residents, for the residents. No on other than the residents created the government and police force they now have.

St. Louis County police force sometimes cooperates with the municipalities, but the municipalities tell the county how and when, not the other way around.

So the city of Ferguson has the police force they created. This is the result. People like the idea of localized control. Until stuff happens.

Shooting into a group of 10 or so officers though, your target area is effectively at least 8 ft. by 8 ft., and that's if they're fairly well packed together.

That's not any demonstration of good shooting, that's just lobbing in artillery.

Oh yes. As I occasionally observe here.

But I have no "so-what?" follow-up to that observation. No operational "so we do this". Nothing.

Which outlines the dilemma. That *is* the country now (effectively - enough of it, clearly).

Also why I point out repeatedly: Obama, et al - symptoms, not cause.

189 So I was reading the comments over at NYTimes yesterday... I forget what the article was about.

But one of the commenters said something interesting. (paraphrasing here) "It doesnt matter in the long term what Republicans want anyways, because with immigration and a higher birthrate, minorities will be in control of this country soon enough. Then the hateful Republican party will disappear. We just have to hold them off until then, and make sure they don't try to repeal social security or anything crazy like that."

Which kind of made me laugh. Do these idiot old, white liberals really think that importing millions of poor socialists who are taught from day one to hate gringo and to hate the US both in their home countries and in the US are going to give a shit about them?

I can't help but feel like we're going to have a South African moment in this country at some point, where whites are basically under siege at all times.

Then where do we go? Australia?

Europe will be fulling sharia by then... Asia doesn't want us...

You know, when people do this in Africa it's called ethnic cleansing. In the US, it's seen as a good thing. Because, fuck whitey.

Individual blacks already burn with shame and frustration at this whole thing - and have for years. But they're, statistically speaking, freaks and outliers.

There was a (self-described) black female lurker making first comment here the other night. Her story was soul-crushing, really. Smart, aware - and raised by a good set of parents to think straight and thus writhing in agony at the idiocy surrounding the artificial issue of "race" in America.

Black Americans like her, and all the rest of us, are doomed to live with this degraded, stupid and destructive crap. It's been a long time developing. When words become meaningless, and concepts get inverted, and institutions collapse, there are no tools to fix the problem.

226 So having just read the overnight thread, and since I'm on Twitter, I wandered over to the Block Bot and checked it out. The site has a list of "administrators." I clicked on some of them as I was curious to see who had set up this program and what their political and/or societal issues are.

Every single account I clicked on belongs to someone who is either trans, gay, black or some combination of the above; the tweets I read indicate that they are angry angry angry at society and view everything - everything - from the prism of their "otherness" (for want of a better term). These people are NUTS. So they've set up a program to carefully block everything they disagree with on Twitter, en masse? In many cases, without even reading any posts from the person's account? How ridiculous is that?

I have blocked folks on Twitter myself, and I know there is some debate about this, but when I block I do it individually and after reading something the person has posted that I really find offensive. This is just bizarre. I can't believe Twitter allows it.

Yeah. It's really inexplicable to me.

Republicans say "we want everyone to be treated equally under the law" and pass the 13th and 14th amendments, blacks vote for R's for a while... but within a generation or two, they move toward the "we hate blacks, but we love us some socialism" party, which then transformed itself to the "we still think blacks are stupid and inferior, but here's an EBT card, so vote for us" party.

And the conservatives / Republicans are saying "uhh... dude, you wanted to be equal, no? We agree. We did that for you. Why are *WE* the racists now?"

And blacks say, "shut up."

But the race hustlers have to hijack that for their own purposes.

Nobody's out protesting when unarmed white guys get shot by cops, but god forbid a black guy attacks a cop and goes for his gun and the white cop shoots him. Then all bets are off.

Just like the Zimmerman thing. They heard the name, assumed he was a white jewish guy out hunting for Blacks. When that turned out not to be true, they made up "White Hispanic" to continue the narrative.

Again, obviously not about cops. Just about hating white people. Which I guess is socially acceptable and encouraged nowadays. Because racism is cool.

Just to be clear, when I'm speaking of they and their, I mean these specific groups of black people guilty of this behavior, not black people as a whole racially.

Was told thatin order to serve as a location, many areas had to be "trashed up" so they'd look like an American city (Canada being famously clean). At least once, a shoot extended beyond mid-day. During lunch break, city crews cleaned up the area - apparently not having "gotten the memo".

So they had to trash up the area AGAIN to film after lunch .....!!!!!

The Ohio State Legislature just passed a law requiring a uniformed officer at the site of every "red-light" camera. So the City of Columbus (and most other municipalities that use them) is going to turn off their red-light cameras, until they appeal this law, citing "home rule". I was laughing at this on the way to work this morning. A major intersection I drive through has a bunch of "red-light" cameras.

So yes, most cities look on this as revenue sources, and willfully want to shake down the public.

Right, and again, it's stupid. And racist (in the old definition of the word) in and of itself.

By saying one race has privileges and exemptions over another race, you're perpetuating racism.

It's like when I was talking to a (ahem) "moderate independent" recently who had recently seen that newish movie about Lincoln. He said, "Its so weird seeing the Democrats be the racists, and not the Republicans."

It infuriated me. The Democrats have ALWAYS been about racial divisions.

They realized in the 60s that their racial shit was no longer working as well with poor whites (especially as many poor whites became middle class whites, and voted based on economics and not racial populism), so they said, "well, fcuk it, let's see if we can use this racial division the other way and get the poor blacks on our side against whitey. Also, let's open up immigration to the third world big time, and ignore Europeans who want to come here. That'll help get us more votes."

Still just as racist as when they were wearing white hoods, just different "victims" this time.

Yeah, but when you live near a limited access highway that has speed limits varying from 55 mph to 45 mph for no reason other than to set up speed traps, when most modern automobiles are capable of safely cruising at 75, it's a little bit about the revenue, no?

I mean, I see that everywhere. You're cruising along, speed limit 55, then all of a sudden, speed limit is 45 and a bunch of cops are hiding behind the tree that covers the speed limit sign.

Then 2 miles later, back up to 55 mph.

Weird, right?

Posted by: mynewhandle at March 12, 2015 01:43 PM (AkOaV)

313 There's a really bad speed trap on the way out to College Station. I can't think of the name of the stupid town, but it's one of those things where the speed limit drops from highway speeds to town speeds as you drive through town, and then goes back up after you're outside the main drag.

Now in most of those situations you'll see 75. 65. 55. 45. 35. 45.55.65.75.

Not in this bullshit town though. Right at the edge of town, far after you've past the last building, the speed limit ramps up but it doesn't follow the normal rules. You see 35, 45, 55, 55, 75. So, of course, people from out of town start accelerating once they see the 55 sign and get popped by the cop sitting at the second 55 sign.

It's a speed trap. Nothing more. No one is being protected. The town is suspiciously well maintained.

I can set up six bowling pins at 100 yards, and will average 4 out of 6, with my S&W Model 28, 4" bbl., with 148 gr. full-wadcutter ammo.

Trajectory like a rainbow. Takes about a 20 inch holdover. Using .357 Mag, that'd reduce to about a 12" holdover.

But then, I've got an abnormally high skill level with said revolver.

I'll say it again. Ten officers standing together, constitute at least an eight foot wide, eight foot deep, consolidated target area.

There was no true marksmanship involved here.

Just some scumbag taking three potshots at a target half the size of a car, firing from well behind the main crowd.

He got lucky on 2 out of 3 shots.

Had it been a rifle, the cop shot in the face would be in critical condition, at best. The officer hit in the shoulder would be missing a baseball chunk of tissue, likely some bone, and still be in the ICU.

Punk. With a pistol. And no remarkable skills.

That, you can take to the bank.

Near as I can tell, this is what funds the town.

Posted by: Lauren at March 12, 2015 01:44 PM (MYCIw)

Right. And in my experience, most rapid speed changes like that are for revenue, not safety.

I understand going down to 35 or whatever when going through a town. But if you ever drive on the Eastern Shore of Virginia, near the Maryland line, they have the best example of a speed trap I've ever seen.

Similar to what you describe.

Speed limit is 65. You approach a sort-of town with a few stop lights where the speed limit drops to 45. Fine, no problem there.

Then as soon as your through town, it hops back up to 65. Makes sense so far.

Then, for a stretch of road thats about a mile long, it drops back down to 45. No city around, no people there, no one would expect it to drop. But there is a small hill behind which cops hide and pull over cars en masse.

Then, 1/2 a mile past the hill, back up to 65 for the rest of the drive.

I'm sure the people from around there know the stretch I'm talking about. You'll see the cops have 3-4 cars with out of state tags pulled over at all times.

They probably fund half the town with that stupid hill and speed limit trick.

Posted by: mynewhandle at March 12, 2015 01:49 PM (AkOaV)

333 It is actually worse than a revenue generating trap. Here in Ca the state assesses each city their share of the traffic fines, if the total isn't enough the city has to make up the difference. I suppose Roberts would call it a tax. I see it as criminal: If people learn to obey the traffic laws and avoid the traps, the cops are motivated to get 'creative' in their methods.

345 So, of course, people from out of town start accelerating once they see the 55 sign and get popped by the cop sitting at the second 55 sign.

---

That's a fightable ticket. If you are approaching a lower speed limit, you have the "expectation" to be going that speed by the time you pass the sign. Courts (in some states, at least) have upheld the reciprocal--you have the "expectation" to be going the speed posted by the time you pass it.

Then they get a bunch of cops to testify at the town meeting about how unsafe that area is, and how the speed limit NEEDS to be dropped.

Then they tell the cops to go out and set up their speed trap and bring in the big money with the promise of giving the cops cool new toys.

Everyone wins.

Which is why they don't usually ticket locals. Only people from out of state who aren't going to drive back to bumblefukc to go to court to fight a ticket. Easier to just pay it.

Locals do fight these speed trap tickets, and a lot of times they get dropped. Either because a) the cop didnt show up to court, because why would he and b) the judge is sympathetic with the (local) drivers situation.

He lectures us and eggs on the useful idiots. Oh, and BTW, think he will offer any sincere thoughts about the two officers shot by the supporters of the gentle giant?

Maybe it's just me, but even in Selma last week, he couldn't keep it positive; he seemed to focus on how things are still bad, not the progress made.

Race is a large part of it for him, but he did the same thing with Sandy Hook, and with the Giffords shooting.
