Shock: Hillary Clinton Sent Over 55,000 Physical Paper Pages of Email Print-Outs to State, Which (and I'm Sure This Is Just a Happy Incident) Cannot Be Searched Except by Hand

Scumbag.

Like a mobster paying his bail in nickels -- the Clintons are gangsters and, as criminals tend to be, are innately contemptuous of the law.

Why did Mrs. Clinton have her staff go through the trouble of printing out, boxing and shipping 50,000 or 55,000 pages instead of just sending a copy of the electronic record? One can only speculate, but there is an obvious advantage: Printed files are less informative and far harder to search than the electronic originals.

Because State has only printouts of emails, department personnel responding to a Freedom of Information Act request have to go through the whole haystack rather than type "needle" into a search engine. At best, that would mean long delays in FOIA compliance.

Likewise, printouts are not subject to electronic discovery in the event of investigation or lawsuit. The Times reports that department lawyers responding to a request from the House Select Committee on Benghazi took two months to find "roughly 900 pages pertaining to the Benghazi attacks." And printouts do not include electronic "metadata," which can provide crucial forensic evidence.

I'm sure this is all just an accident.

Taranto points out that Politifact, the alleged "fact" checking organization, claimed that Clinton turned over 55,000 emails.

Accurate as ever, Politifact.

6 It's not just that they're not searchable.

It's that an email presented in paper form may be edited to say whatever you want it to say.

Are people truly this stupid in this idiocracy that they think a printout is the real thing?

7 Ha. I'm going to try this with the IRS if I ever get audited.

24 Perhaps -- just perhaps -- if we call on Congress to do it's friggin' job for once by impeaching Choom Boy's worthless ass and throwing him in jail for five or six decades, Hillary might get the idea that this is, despite what her husband and her enablers have led her to believe, a Nation of Laws and she has to abide by them, just like any ordinary citizen.

She isn't President yet (for which I thank G*d), but unless there is some pushback against the current shitstorm of corruption that envelops national politics and politicians, she will be.

Based on the information that the IP address goes to Texas, not her house... and that IP address also does not belong to an ISP... but a hosting company.

I don't think she has a physical email server... some company is running it for her.

48 Here's my takeaway from this Clinton thing:

If you are a government employee, it makes a lot more sense to conduct any potentially shady business off domain & in sneaky ways, because there are basically no (official, government) consequences for breaking the "law" regarding record retention.

I'm sure this occurred to government employees years ago, and they all do it.

My thinking exactly, get an intern to scan in the emails, and start
searching. Only problem is if there are no mail headers printed out.

If they can get the from / to then they can get the electronic copies from the other end. especially if they are on government servers. But if I was congress I would issue a subpoena to all government agencies for all emails related to HRC and for all emails from or to HRC.

171 This is the kind of thing that bad lawyers -- or lawyers" like Hillary who haven't ever practiced real law -- do to try to evade discovery. In real law practice, a document dump like this without electronic searchable data and metadata would likely get you sanctioned by the Court. Indeed, under the federal rules, you are required before you even begin conducting discovery to meet with opposing counsel to discuss, among other things, how you will safeguard and produce electronic data.

In other words, this type of conduct is designed to fool (a) low information voters, and (b) low information media types.

Total Bull Crap I did IT for a trading firm and they had to have retention systems as part of their e-mail that allowed the Guberment to go back 7 years and if they wanted all correspondence between this person and that person the system had to be able to pull the info and provide the information. The systems neededto be capable of downloadingthe resultsto a disk so if the Clintanista's decided they needed to have their own e-mail system then you would think that they would have to be under some guidelines on the requirements that had to be met to be compliant.
So now we are supposed to believe it's OK to bypass the State's system because you want to run your own e-mail servers and that there are no rules or regulations required to run your own system?

289 Bullshit, this is why image analysis is a big thing. They may have contract for software but the idea the state department just can't is a load of crap

Let's put it this way... If they can get your plate at 500 feet then a scanned document is trivial.

293 253 Only 32% of households have guns, down from about half in the early 80s.
This is mostly due to the decline of hunting and rural America.

Posted by: Costanza Defense

The US pop in 1980 was 226.5 mil. 50% = 113mil.
Pop today: 310 mil. 32% = 99mil.

Not a huge change in the absolute number.

295 I've done a fair amount of scanning of text document such as paperback books for conversion to e-book via OCR (optical character recognition) software. With a dozen of the much more high-end scanners you can get for about $1,000, a crew of interns could have all of this converted to searchable digital form in a couple of days.

I'd bill HRC for the scanners and the interns' time.

300 Maybe sorta brilliant. I tried to send LA Fitness packing for a year and this never occurred to me.

My LA Fitness gym locker room was a hot spot for flabby old gay guys cruising for tail. They were overt about it. I turned down more guys asking for my number than I've ever turned down ladies. And I've got a ring on my finger!

Of course, the Repubes wouldn't do anything anyway, and the media loves her. Nothing will come of this scandal. It will be swept under the rug like every other dirty rotten lying mess with which the Clintons have been involved.

313 grep the message tracking logs for the State Dept. servers and other three letter agencies later. Once the relevant emails are determined from this output, (if needed) issue a subpeona and get electronic copies of each email. Whoever she communicated with has a copy of their communcation on the other end.

No man is an island, this goes for email as well.

318 Actually, I am a contract doc review attorney - on a project right now, in fact. 55,000 pages is probably only half that (at most) the number of emails. One attorney on easy, interesting stuff like this could easily do 700 documents a day. So, yeah if on electronic media (that could be put on a platform like Relativity), ten doc review attorneys could knock it off in a week if they were still emails and not printed out.

By the way, what you are mainly going to see will be almost all articles forwarded from publicly available sources.

319 In response to a Hillary apologist on NewsBusters yesterday, I wrote this:

Uh, yeah. Has the server physically been turned over to State? Since
when do we refer to electronic emails as "pages"? These were printed
pages of selected emails. Unless you can cite proof otherwise.
Go.
Uh huh.

320 Hillary Clinton Sent Over 55,000 Physical Paper Pages of Email Print-Outs to State, Which (and I'm Sure This Is Just a Happy Incident) Cannot Be Searched Except by Hand

Run 'em through a scanner and turn them into searchable Acrobat files.

So...drop them into a scanner that has an automated document feeder. It will take some time, but then they can be posted on a web site and run through an optical character recognition program to convert to text, and then crowdsourced to correct any problems the OCR program spews forth.

Electronic delivery? check.

Posted by: I R A Darth Aggie at March 10, 2015 09:17 AM (1hM1d)

323 Yeah, just send them all through a high speed document imager and OCR them back into searchable files.
