I see a lot of it on twitter. There's a coterie of self-congratulating Smart Set types who don't think about things but sure tweet a lot, and basically they just tweet Class Wisdom, like Boehner is the best we can do and anyone who says otherwise is Crazy and Not Our Class.

I'm reminded again of this cool idea i saw a couple of months ago, an observation of Schopenauer's, that most things men think they "know" is just some shit that THREE OTHER PEOPLE said, and that most things in life that non-thinking people "know" are of this character, just something that someone said, then someone repeated, and someone repeated again, and that becomes Something Which We "Know."

"It is known," the slave girl translator on Game of Thrones always says about folk wisdom.

There's a lot of class-based folk wisdom of this variety, that the self-declared "Smart Set" keeps repeating, *without ever having actually thought much about it,* which really should be something a soi-disant Smart Set does from the start, right?

When the Boss went over a few weeks ago for a hearing with this guy, the judge took one look at the guy and instantly asked that the staff call a deputy to come to the courtroom because the judge was afraid the guy would cause a disturbance as he is, hmm, how to put this, not unfamiliar to the court.

I think people do it for the very reason they can get out there is nature away from everybody else and enjoy the sounds of the water and the sun on them, even if a fish never hits your line. And then when you get a fish with fight it's even better. Maybe salt water fishing is more exciting but I only know about fresh water fishing.

My fishing is fly fishing, which requires two hands so no beer. My favorite fly fishing is surf flyfishing, which means walking miles of sand, wading into waves that want to suck you out to Portugal, and performing the fairly demanding act of casting a fly which is weightless and making it move like something a striped bass would eat.

I tell people I fish and they say "that must be relaxing". It is, but not physically.

My fishing buddy and I are going to pitch in and get an oversand permit for an area on Cape Cod this year. (He's paying half and it's going on MY truck!).

So I'm getting all psyched and reading the regs (tow rope, jack, platform, tire guage) and remembering when I did this in the past and how awesome the beach is at night and remember the time we saw the araura borealis...

Fly rod for grand daughter is complete. Made from an Orvis blank, 7.5 feet, for #5wt line.

We fish small brooks and this should work fine for that.

It's a b'day present--her birthday is in April, trout season starts 1 April in NY.

Looking forward to this.

The show comes across more as a film than a television show. Or maybe I'm feeling that way because we saw the preview at the theater when we went to see "American Sniper."

It's one of those shows where you have to do 'homework' to know wtf is going on.

If I hadn't seen a 30 minute promo last week, I wouldn't know either.
Well...not that I really do know much, but I know more than I would have if I hadn't seen the promo.

For example...
They said in the promo that the Hasidic guys had 'genetically engineered the red heifer calf' in order to use it to create the illusion that the Prophesies were coming about.

It also said that the whole thing was about some "religious extremists" who want to kick start chaos and bring about the end of the world.

I dunno what the deal is with the girl with the red hair who was murdered.

The red-haired girl resembles the FBI agent's dead daughter.

And can I just say? Jason Isaacs is HAWT. He played evil so brilliantly in "The Patriot" as the British officer. He's done an about-face on "Dig." LOVED the naked butt scene (too brief).

And I can't watch Anne Heche (who is good) without going, "Grrrrlll? WTF??"

Nicely done. Nothing like the gift of a fly rod.

I have an old Silver Label in a 6.5' - 4 wt that I used back east on the creeks. It doesn't get much time out here, though.

Oh yeah he's hawt.
He's the main reason why I watched it.

I first noticed him in 'Armageddon', as the scientist nerd.
He's been in quite a few things since then.

And yeah...the red-haired girl reminded him of his dead daughter.
I just couldn't help but wonder if they intended both of them as some sort of imagery of the 'red heifer', too.

197 185 ... What material did you use for the rod? I'm just learning to fly fish and tie my own flies. Fascinating and fun. A far cry from the surf casting I grew up with a few millennia ago. Trying to make a rod (eventually) sounds like a good time.
