Politico Publishes Hillary Clinton's Opposition Research on Republicans Without Attributing It To Anyone; Politico's Glenn Thrush Calls Hillary's "Possibly Illegal" Flouting of the Law "A Teensy Bit Badass"

A great Washington Examiner article from T. Becket Adams. First, I would like to share with you why I even know of this article:

Was it "twaddle"? Well the night this story broke, I watched on Twitter, mouth agape, as Glenn Thrush paraded out a series of unlikely defenses of Hillary, including the assertion that Hillary didn't understand "computery" things and this was therefore entirely the fault of her aides.

Naturally, he had to arrogantly insult anyone who didn't enthusiastically take this hard-to-believe line:

But that didn't fly, so he went from claiming her to be an ignorant and confused old lady to claiming she was "badass" for willfully breaking the law.

But he insists that to characterize his alternating apologetics and even praise of Hillary for the scandal as "defending" her is "willfully ignorant twaddle."

I have asked him what other possible descriptor could apply to his Stalwart Service on behalf of The Queen. He has not responded.

But Adams' article is worth linking for another reason: Therein is contained a list of Talking Points, first reported by National Review, propagated by pro-Hillary forces (I would guess either David Brock's MMFA or Hillary Clinton's campaign itself, though the two are difficult to distinguish from each other at this point).

The talking points contain a swill of derogatory and misleading claims about Republicans' use of private emails. And wouldn't you know it, those claims show up in the #ReadyForHillary blogsite @Politico today, without any attribution to Team Hillary.

Note this is a form of bias. Voters do not like "attacks," nor the dark arts of opposition research. And note that the media always reports derogatory information about Democrats by saying, "Republicans attack Hillary on Emails," or the like.

That is to say, the GOP's authorship of -- or even their mere acknowledgement of -- derogatory information about a Democrat is always blasted in the headline, strongly hinting that, if there's any wrongdoing here, it's on the part of those uncouth Republicans, who are forever "attacking" people and releasing nasty talking points about Democrats.

But when Team Hillary releases a bunch of attacks on Republican front-runners, does anyone in the media forthrightly note the actual authorship of this attack? Did @Politico headline this story, "Hillary's forces counter-attack GOP with white-paper slam"?

NO, they did not, as they never do. As always, they hide the actual moving party -- here, Team Hillary -- and pretend that the information just came out of the ether, or that the Reporterette herself dug all this stuff up.*

This is a form of Immaculate Denigration. The GOP's dirty little fingers are always highlighted when the #ReadyForHillary media reports, reluctantly, on what they've dug up on Democrats, but when the media regurgitates Democratic talking points about Republicans, the media deliberately and willfully conceals from the reader the source of the claims in question.

You will not be surprised at the various network consultants and, in Kasie Hunt's case, actual alleged non-partisan "reporters" who are pushing this line:

The line from pro-Clinton groups — that there are comparisons between Bush's use of a personal account along with his government account and Clinton's exclusively conducting State business from an unauthorized and likely unsecured personal account — has since been repeated by a reporters and pundits.

"Romney used [a personal] email for Mass state biz in office," CNN contributor Sally Kohn said, adding that former Gov. Rick Perry, R-Texas, even "deletes all emails after [seven] days."

"Jeb Bush used his personal account to conduct state, political & personal business. His team released state business emails to the public," MSNBC's Kasie Hunt reported. "Jeb Bush owns the server that hosts his personal email, his spokeswoman says."

"But this is different. Jeb isn't a Clinton. Why would we cover his private email server the same as hers?" CNN contributor and Democratic strategist Paula Begala said.

I did not see Kasie Hunt's live reports, but I have read her Twitter feed. If she acknowledged that her reportage on GOP email use came from an email tip from an interested party, I certainly did not see it.

Now, watch how she reports damaging information about Clinton -- she lets the viewer know right away this arrived "in my mail," that is, was farmed to her by opposition:

Why does Ms. Hunt refuse to make the same kind of minor disclosures with regard to the derogatory information received from Hillary? **

* The writer of the Politico piece flagged below makes one partial admission along these lines: that the derogatory information about Jeb Bush specifically was "circulated" by David Brock's American Bridge.

[Jeb Bush] quickly received a comeuppance: Democratic opposition research shop American Bridge circulated a story Wednesday suggesting that, like Clinton, Bush also operated his own email server to give him a greater ability to keep some of his emails private.

But what about the rest of it, about Scott Walker and Rick Perry and on and on?

You know whose story Politico links to there? Kasie Hunt's, who does not in her article reveal where she got her information.

So David Brock is circulating Kasie Hunt's article, and Friends of Hillary are putting these talking points out there, but Kasie Hunt fails to say something like "Pro-Hillary groups are putting out the word that Jeb Bush..."

** Note: I actually cannot read that Romney piece she links, so I don't know what it says, nor what Hunt means when she says "Hillary's practices don't stand up." I assume she means that Hillary's secrecy fails by the standards already established by Democrats and the media (but I repeat myself), and that this Romney piece shows that the media once cared about such things.

That is my belief, though, again, she doesn't really elaborate enough for me to be completely sure.

And that's why I say that when a piece is sent to her from (assumedly) Republican hands, she notes that it "showed up in my email" (that is, was turfed to me by opposition researchers), and yet when she publishes all of Team Hillary's opposition research, the illusion is perpetrated that this was just some stuff Kasie Hunt dug up all by her lonesome.

It's not "a form of bias" as in "unspoken, and sometimes even unrecognized underlying beliefs."

It is prejudicial- as in "attempting to make people believe someone or something possesses an undesired property before allowing them access to the facts."

Which is (or, should be) a far worse offense.

Everyone has bias. Sure, we want that bias acknowledged, but we admit that even our side has bias.

Not everyone attempts to prejudice the jury (in this case: the media consuming public) against a witness (in this case: Republicans attempting to get out news about Democrats and their scandals).

The reporter is Rich Miller who runs a political blog, Capitol Fax, and even tho he's a lefty he's looking into where the leaks are coming from, because he smells a rat. The commenters at his site however, lefty loons all, are quite peeved at him for daring to look the gift horse in the mouth as it were.

Schock is 33 years old and probably the hippest thing to a hip Republican it's possible to be. Somebody wants him out sooner rather than later.

They know the contempt isn't for them the journos, it's for the stupid folks who read that stuff and believe we still have a representative Republic and everyone plays by the rules.

Once we let a serial rapist escape justice we were doomed.

And it was inevitable that we would because since the late '60's we haven't been facing reality on pretty much every front.

that the media lie to us so blatantly is just among the final symptoms of the degeneracy of our culture.

Pro choice is Pro Murder.
Affirmative Action is discrimination
Words that sound similar to others are equally offensive
Criticisms of persons is labeled discrimination against their color or religion or gender or sexual predilection.

Once words lose their true meaning and no one can rely on standard definitions and no one goes to jail for lying or violating the law (in government) then there is no rule of law and no stable ground to act from.

1. Didn't happen
2. Republicans do it too

In regards to (2), remember the reaction from the media and the left when it was revealed that Sarah Palin had used personal e-mail for some official communications. Which isn't as much a matter of black letter law prohibiting it in Alaska state affairs as it is in federal government affairs.

The media and the left nevertheless flatly insisted upon total access to all Palin e-mail from the period, official and otherwise (costing millions of dollars in compliance). They shifted to lawfare mode, deployed a battalion of attorneys, and brought suit to enforce that access. Impugning Palin the entire time as "covering up " and "stonewalling" them.

Then when they got access, the media assigned a ridiculously large number of reporters, and the left in general whipped up an even larger "crowdsourcing" amateur effort, to paw through every last e-mail in search of damaging dirt or indictable crimes.

They found precisely nothing of interest.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand now, how many of you think that there will be anything like this Palin response from the media and the left in regard to the far worse Clinton e-mail scandal? Show of hands?

What they didn't know was what the rest of the world was like and what they were missing. That's what was kept from them.

This is a slightly different form. We're being lied to about what's going on in our country (which is why the foreign press breaks so many stories) and the LIV's lap that up because it comports with what they've been taught in the liberal education system.

On the morning open, I mentioned what NPR were busy doing yesterday. Saying the phrases "private e-mail" and "not illegal" over and over again.

Battlespace prep, of course. As described above, laying down a thick confusing defensive fog over Hillary's position.

Because while they pointedly mentioned the Clinton matter, the not-illegal status of private e-mail for organizational purposes of which they were speaking relates to businesses. And NOT to the federal government.

But they're not interested in that fine distinction. They just want to get those phrases repeatedly emitted and associated in the stew of the public mind. Something something private e-mail. Not illegal blather blather.

BUT, they're committing a very large mistake if this is true. By airing out Hildebeast's scandels, they're also airing out the repub candidates' alleged shortcomings too. Which can also be claimed as old news.

177 "The entire DC press corps(e) knew that Kennedy was a philandering pill popping drunk, yet never once reported on any of it. Then, later, they made it their mission to destroy Nixon and make him the most corrupt president ever. Why? I don't know."

Proximal blame to the late Ben Bradlee, whose corpse on its bier was immediately anointed with the oil of sainthood as the Departed Dean Of American Political Journalism.

JFK and Bradlee drank and skirt-chased together. JFK steered scoops to Bradlee's desk.

In return, Bradlee spiked all stories relating to JFK's sordid personal life, and made sure that all official stories about Kennedy policies were spun to a pleasing RPM.

Nixon, unlike Kennedy, wasn't interested in being Bradlee's bottle pounding and bottom fondling wingman. Nixon didn't cosset favor by planting valuable stories.

Nixon did, nevertheless, start to behave in a Kennedyesque manner in one crucial way: engaging in dirty political tricks using government assets in exactly the same way that JFK and LBJ had done.

Lo and behold, Watergate, broken open by Bradlee's _Post_.

Note, David Petraues was just convicted of keeping classified material, in an unsafe manner...

It is likely, from what we know... and from Obama's own IT team... that outright foreigners, or immigrants, were running this server.... and thus had access to everything ON that server.

We also know that Hillary WAS sending sensitive, if not classified material via email, because the way this whole thing was discovered, was by a Hacker from Europe, who hacked someone else's email, and found mail from Hitlery... with sensitive material in it (hacker is currently serving time overseas...).

Ooh, point of order on that one.

Through a weird confluence of events, I happened to find myself in many of the "occupied" cities during that whole occupy wall street shit.

Most of them were groups of 30-40 people who looked like homeless unemployed festival types. Lots of open drug use. Lots of hacky sack kicking.

The media (get this) lied regularly about the size of these groups. They purposefully shot from camera angles that made the groups look much bigger then they were.

And they did the opposite for the TEA party.

But either way, both groups were TINY compared to the 300,000,000 people that live in this country.

Essay;Blizzard of Lies By WILLIAM SAFIRE

Published: January 8, 1996

Americans of all political persuasions are coming to the sad realization that our First Lady -- a woman of undoubted talents who was a role model for many in her generation -- is a congenital liar.

Drip by drip, like Whitewater torture, the case is being made that she is compelled to mislead, and to ensnare her subordinates and friends in a web of deceit.

239 "And they did the opposite for the TEA party."

The Tea Party's gatherings in public spaces are typically cleaner afterward than before they arrived.

The likes of Occupy and the various labor rallies and the Obama inaugural parties have left those same public spaces in reeking, unsanitary, pigsty condition.

Never mentioned by the press corpse. Not a story which interests them.

If I hadn't had to work hard just to support myself and I had a modicum of pride that required me to do so on my own, I would've tried to take a torch to the whole edifice years ago.

247 Again, the lying was not irrational. Investigators believe that damning records from the Rose Law Firm, wrongfully kept in Vincent Foster's White House office, were spirited out in the dead of night and hidden from the law for two years -- in Hillary's closet, in Web Hubbell's basement before his felony conviction, in the President's secretary's personal files -- before some were forced out last week.

Running an email server is not something a normal user would have the knowledge to do... it takes quite a bit of background knowledge to be able to pull it off.

Somewhere there is an IT guy involved... and HE or SHE is the one who needs to be questioned on this....

Note, the initial DNS name registration, is under a name that no one can find any public records on... not even reverse phone lookup records...

There would also HAVE to be records in the State Dept. IT Dept. which allows this address space to be used on email... as most address spaces get 'rejected' because of Spam...

And the White House IT folks had to know to.... for the same reason....

Some enterprising reporter needs to find out who the IT people are... and get THEIR story... because that's where we will find out the real dirt.

Well, the TEA Party people also didn't set up camp in public parks and live like they're disgusting hippies at Woodstock.

In Denver (for example), my hotel room over looked the occupy group. There was 2 public bathrooms in the park, no showers, nothing. Occupy people would try to use the hotels bathrooms and showers, but they were escorted out.

I did see a few of them rent rooms at the hotel (the trustafarians don't like sleeping on the sidewalk), but for the most part these people were living like dirty hippies at a festival -- tripping acid, doing drum circles, walking around shirtless and in goofy clown pants and Birkenstocks.

And someone was shipping in food every morning and giving these people walking around money... I don't know who, but most of them were smoking cigarettes and weed like it was going out of style. I don't know how you can afford those habits if you're an unemployed couch surfer.

284 These type of biased attacks have the potential to backfire on the media. This isn't 2007 where the GOP will be caught on its heels by Obama's media savvy supporters. The one thing Republicans have learned is how to use social media to fight back.

Scott Walker's campaign is becoming particularly adept at this.

While the TV media still can dominate the LIV's with bias and outright mendacity, that edge is shrinking as it dies as a news source or swing voters switch to other media.

As was done above, you can put these issues side-by-side and a chimp can determine it was outright bias and manipulation.

Yeah, I'd really be hesitant if I were you.

There could be so many things wrong with them and it would be really hard to tell just from pictures. If they're too old, they could be dry rotted.

They could have come from a car that was badly out of alignment, so the wear could be off. They could have been mounted on shitty rims, so they could be lumpy... they may have been balanced wrong.

etc,etc,etc.

My general rule with used tires is only if I get a great deal, and only if I get to see them first, and only then if I'm willing to accept that they may be fucked and I may lose my money.

So I rarely buy used tires. Just doesn't seem worth it.

No, not rocket science... but also not something Hillary Clinton is going to do either...

My guess is there is a Clinton Foundation IT contract somewhere... as there appears to be other DNS domains registered to them as well.

It would also be SOP within the State Dept IT folks to make her and her aids, email accounts when they come onboard..... thus THEY had to know she was using a private account.... and I'll bet, somewhere buried in the State Dept. is a memo about it...

It was hacker "Giccifer" (Romanian, I think) who hacked Sid Blumenthal's email and discovered Hillary's email address from their correspondence. Hills was sending Sid sensitive info on Libya......and yet Sid did not work for State or any government institution at the time.

Yeah, she's likely hiding the fact that she's shared classified info with people not qualified to see it. SO that ON TOP of the fact that she likely made classified info available to whomever managed the email server, the backup server (outsourced) and the archive.

Much better to deal there than online.

And watch the dry rot/cracks on the sidewall. The tires may not have many miles, it's the TIME and the weather that can get them. Most states who do inspections won't allow them to pass.

But its like vehicle inspections in my state. Ostentatiously its for "vehicle safety."

But at the end of the day, it's just a way to make you spend $50 a year going to a mechanic who decides what work HE thinks needs to be done on your car (in his shop, natch) and if you disagree, he gives you a red fail sticker and you have 10 days to get it fixed or park the car.

So who really comes out ahead there?

I have no incentive to drive a dangerous falling apart car. And I don't. But is it really a matter of public safety that my trunk light bulb is out and I need to pay $25 to some asshole to replace a light bulb or I get a Fail?

Is it really a matter of public safety if my rear disk brakes are below 1/4 life? Yeah, I know they're getting worn, but I still have a few months left in them before I NEED to replace them.

And that's how it'd go with tire mandates. The tire manufacturers would back it, the big trucking companies would be on board, and all of the small mom and pop shops would be out of business overnight because they couldnt afford to put $25k in new tires on each rig.

Posted by: mynewhandle at March 05, 2015 04:20 PM (AkOaV)

357 In a rational world, trucks would only be used within a limited radius of a train depot or port.

But currently we have trucks driving clear across the country because the laws make it more profitable to do so than to ship the goods by train (which could be cheaper per ton per mile) to a nearby distribution center. Where trucks would then take over. Trucks are not economic for long haul except in the case of special cargo.

But the laws aren't written to advance efficiency or even reduce pollution. They're written to promote certain industries and certain modes of transport over others while some modes are purposely prevented from competing.

Some lawmaker got BOUGHT and the laws are still on the books because those making the money make PAYMENTS to that lawmakers successors.

Fuck decorum, ethics, legality, morality and anything else that gets in the way. Hire the guy who isn't satisfied just getting a decision in your favor, but someone who won't be able to sleep nights unless the opposition is destroyed, ruined and suicidal.

372 The government should mandate that windshields be 6 inches thick. That way, exploding truck tires cannot penetrate them. But the Democrats and the media (I repeat myself) are going to do their level damndest to spin it as 'just an affair'. I'm so amazed, by the way, at how many people in my new state think annual vehicle inspections is a normal thing. And how aghast they are at my suggestion that its waste of time and money and crony capitalist play to boot. They can't wrap their heads around the fact that 30 states have no inspections at all, and that most other states are moving in that direction.

I've lived my entire life without getting a car inspected (beyond federally mandated emissions), and I've never heard of, seen, read about, or anything else any kind of rash of unsafe vehicles being on the roads and causing accidents.

397 Thrush, like so many on the Doctrinaire Captured Severe Left, believes he does not sit where he sits.

There are matter-of-fact socialists who claim they are not partisan, they only have Common Sense Ideas that are All Over The Map, and only agree with the Common Sense Politicians who share them, who are, of course, all socialists.

So when they say "I'm not partisan" or "I'm not shilling" or "I'm not defending this," they *believe it is true*, because basically they're delusional. Well, some of them are, many are cynically "staking out the middle ground" as a strategy.

Which is irrelevant because we're still surrounded by these yoiks.

But, you know, in the grand tradition of repeatedly stating how boned we are, it's not that half of society isn't mentally ill, it's just that we have no practical, sane way of coping with that fact.

Well, except for limiting the power that any one person or group has over others, but that's awfully unpopular, as ideas go.

And I think those people are the vast majority of Dem voters (remember, only 20% of the country claims to be liberal, yet Dems win a lot of elections with ultra liberal candidates. Why? Because the LIVs all think they're smart, moderate types who listen to both sides of the argument -- they do, after all, watch both CNN and ABC News at least once a week)

Hillary does provide some life lessons...
When you have occasion to hire a lawyer, don't go for the nice guy
who had the high grades - get the BadAss who barely squeaked through.
Your lawyer should be the one who jumps up on tables, screams,
shouts, intimidates, ignores laws and is totally focused on winning.

Fuck decorum, ethics, legality, morality and anything else that gets
in the way. Hire the guy who isn't satisfied just getting a decision
in your favor, but someone who won't be able to sleep nights unless the
opposition is destroyed, ruined and suicidal.

Yeah, that's kind of how the whole Broadwell fiasco came to light.

The primary focus of the whole thing seems to be the logs that I mentioned above. He showed them to Broadwell (who wasn't supposed to see them). He kept them when he left the Middle East (which he wasn't supposed to do). And he still had them after he left the CIA, and the parts of his home that were rated for the storage of classified documents were "unrated".

Even when all we knew about was Broadwell, iirc there were some comments that she'd seen stuff that she shouldn't have. The main questions raised at the time were on the timing of the announcement. iirc, it was immediately following the election, and there was speculation that the White House wanted him out asap, but hadn't wanted to say anything until after the election.

But there was always a legitimate legal aspect to the story due to Broadwell's viewing of his logs.

Some Dems I worked with at the time went from "that allegation is complete bullshit and no one in his right mind believes it" to "it's bullshit because everyone lies about sex and what he does in his private life is no one's business" in nothing flat. Oddly, they seemed overly concerned about the GOP diddlers who, to be fair, I had no patience for either.

So here's where we are: a non-Dem screws up and is forced from office, or has to resign a leadership position. A Democrat screws up and he/she gives the finger to the voters and stays in office. Even better? His/her supporters will go the mattresses to protect them. It's totally fubar and it will end up being the death of this country. When the only thing that affects your sense of right and wrong is the political party of the person committing the offense, the time for serious civil unrest is close at hand.

Which reminds me: I need to increase my stockpiles a bit more.

Because according to the FBI, they were suspicious of the broad for harassing another broad. But instead of referring that to local PD or bringing the broad in for questioning, they went on a (one would think highly politically sensitive) fishing expedition through the HEAD OF THE CIA's inbox.

458 @454 Why is the FBI going on fishing expeditions looking through the head of the CIA's inbox? And did they have a warrant? And if so, what did they allege they were looking for on the warrant?

Because according to the FBI, they were suspicious of the broad for harassing another broad. But instead of referring that to local PD or bringing the broad in for questioning, they went on a (one would think highly politically sensitive) fishing expedition through the HEAD OF THE CIA's inbox.
--------------------------

I don't remember the details of why the FBI was initially brought in. You're correct that it was due to correspondence that had nothing to do with Petreus. I think the official reason for snooping on Petreus after discovering the relationship is because, once the illicit relationship was discovered, they wanted to make sure that he hadn't been passing secrets. He wouldn't be the first guy who said stuff he shouldn't have during pillow talk, and she hadn't been vetted with that in mind.

Unofficially, though?

Who knows?

459 Ya, and _someone_ in the horde, back when there was
an argument about no one does any research into the science of hammers,
posted a link to a new style hammer specifically adapted to straighten
those twisted studs when you toenailed them in place.

Gotta use yer HAMMERSAW! A guy that works for me coined that phrase a few weeks ago and we can't stop using it now.

"I think they don't know enough to know what they don't know, and they glom on to random tidbits they'd heard over the years from "smart people" like Jon Stewart, and dont even realize they're repeating old, tired talking points that never actually sounded smart in the first place."

America has become a Skinner's box with a side portion of Pavlovian conditioning.

461 thanks Ace, for keeping a civil tongue while parading the hypocrisy and blatant partisanship of the press before our notice. When the story of the end of the Republic is written the transformation of the Free Press into propagandists for fascist tyrants will be given a starring role in the story.

I would have been sputtering invective two minutes in, myself, but then I'm drinking.

Anybody like music from Joe Sample and Lalah Hathaway? Well, here you go.

"No overt attacks by the official Bush campaign on Clinton's incredible backstory of sleaze and corruption and sexual assault. Clinton was treated as a legitimate candidate, which he should never have been. We're all still suffering the legacy of those horrible decisions."

Bush had an approval reating of 90% after the Gulf War and blew it. Riding on Reagans coattails, who I assume who probably despised, taught him nothing.
"Can you _imagine_ what a cranked up Atwater would have done to Clinton?"

Clinton would have become a punchline more than Dan Quayle.

463 Usage of "teensy" and "badass" in the same sentence is an oxymoron.

464 The larger point here, of course, is obama's policies are helping to fast-track black markets in the USA. obama knows this, too, and doesn't care because it turns our nation into a lawless turkish bazaar.

Well, given American penchant for orderliness and a lack of oppressive regulation, that lawless black market would have the potential of becoming the free market we all want.
