"Those witness accounts stating that Brown never moved back toward Wilson could not be relied upon in a prosecution because their accounts cannot be reconciled with the DNA bloodstain evidence and other credible witness accounts."Now note that they are releasing this information today -- but yesterday they put out "cover" for this finding by declaring the entire city of Ferguson to be racist, thus almost guaranteeing some new riots over what has been found to be, yes, a complete lie from the start.

As to sacrificing cities, one of the forgotten stories about Ferguson was that the Governor INTENTIONALLY let Ferguson burn. He was AWOL as it all went down - Ferguson's mayor couldn't contact him. The guard was just a few miles away, and ordered to sit idle and let it happen, even though the whole country knew what was coming.
I found DOJ's new swipe at Ferguson to be "sour grapes". Clearly they couldn't come up with ANYTHING, no matter how hard they tried, and were left with only being able to take their parting shot, hoping to appease their race-baiters.

If they ever got an actual case of a racist white guy (or cop) killing an unarmed black man for no reason than "just 'cause," I don't think it would get the play that Brown and Martin did.
Because once you prove that a grievance is ever legitimate you face the problem of someone actually trying to fix it- and that is what they don't want. Because if it is ever fixed- unequivocally, undeniably fixed- then that grievance goes away.
So they pick stories most likely to enrage the beast, rather than tame it. Black "teenagers" who are "unarmed" but with enough problems with the story that people's BS meters are pinging from the get-go.
Any rational person who looked rationally at the evidence in either case (Brown or Martin) knew from the beginning that there was nothing illegal or even unjustified about either shooting.

In my history classes, Crispus Attucks was given primary placement -- his picture was on the wall; the Founding Fathers were barely mentioned.
The same remains true in most inner-coty classrooms today.
But guess what? Attucks and his fellow rioters were in no way political, they were just hoodlums itching for a fight, and tried to goad the British soldiers into firing their weapons, so give the rioters a pretext for attacking and killing them.
The entire incident was ridiculously glamorized by 19th century historians trying to create an American mythology, and that revisioning was later taken up by 20th century revisionists looking for a black person to credit as the founder of the United States.
And so it goes for the next 240 years.

People that we would assume are rational -- "journalists", talking heads, politicians, Attorneys General, etc all look at those cases and, despite all evidence to the contrary, see a story of an angry white man going out and hunting down an innocent black kid.
And that's the story. Ask any LIV you know about Trayvon Martin or Eric Garner or Michael Brown, and those that recognize the name will tell you it was racist cops (or wanna be cops) shooting innocent kids for sport.
And thats how the media frames it, thats how the history will be written, and thats what future generations will learn about the early 2010s.
And yet... that's not what happened. Clearly. But it doesn't matter.

Yeah, when the family said that Mike Brown "had been on his way to college to study engineering", I looked at the any-warm-body-with-a-pulse diversion high school from which he had just been handed a diploma, and figured he was going to be the first alumnus of that school ever in its entire history to go on to study university-level engineering.
Of course, the "college" in question turned out to be a sleazy fast-buck unaccredited trade school -- no SATs or GPAs required here! -- and the "engineering" program was a certificate in HVAC repair.
Now, mind you, HVAC repair is important, and it's actually a good way to make a buck, far better than Whatever Studies at a lot of expensive accredited yuppie colleges, but it's not "engineering" as the rest of us think of that discipline.
And also, last I looked, the Gentle Giant had never even gotten around to putting in an application to said trade school. So for the family to say he was on his way there was just as much of a stretch as the "Gentle" part of his sobriquet.

Well, no. A bit of the testimony did line up with the prosecution.
There was the batshit crazy lady, a resident of the complex -- a former public school teacher, if memory serves -- who insisted that Zimmerman had been on top of Martin during the physical altercation, and also that Zimmerman had absolutely, unquestionably fired multiple shots into Martin.
Unfortunately for her, the physical evidence was wholly inconsistent with these claims.

She said that the cops came to take her witness statement a few days after the fact and that based on MEDIA COVERAGE she thought it was Trayvon on the ground, because according to the early MEDIA COVERAGE Trayvon was much smaller than Zimmerman, and she saw the smaller person on the ground being beaten by the larger person.
She conceded that the lighting was too low to make a good ID and she had just gone based on the size discrepancy of the two based on MEDIA COVERAGE.

I am most bothered by the near gleefulness of some that the early facts were wrong. I do not wish to upset friends and friendships, but I have been flooded with emails and comments on social media to the effect of "see now, the thug got what he deserved. Will you admit you were wrong?"
That bothers me most of all and on two fronts. First, because it distracts from but does not negate the issue of police over-militarization. That is still a separate and legitimate issue some conservatives suddenly want to casually set aside and not make eye contact with. I find a doctor. I go to the doctor. The doctor can prescribe any medicine he wants to, or perform any procedure. There are no "pre-approvals" there is no list of drugs that they will cover or not cover. There is no one telling the doctor that they won't approve the medicine because X test showed Y result which is outside their guidelines.

I heard of Hugh Party Shill Hewitt, he was interviewing a Stanford economist, and Hugh had a hard time understanding that, you know, like everything else on earth, health care can and will respond to prices as signals, and that that is the sum total of economic wisdom required. Which it is. For any private goods market.
Economist had a great fundamental point almost all leave out. The medical care market itself is massively disfigured by regulation, that's why it's the only major private goods market in the country where nobody can tell you what something actually costs. The health insurance market - not a market, not mostly insurance for a long time before the O-care catastrophe - is placed on top of the distorted crippled actual medical care industry. So the dysfunction is compounded, and massive. Fix BOTH (i.e., by leaving them alone) is the only intelligent approach.

ALL THE TIME. It's about $5 a tab on the street. Snorting and smoking is apparently OK but it is best powdered, suspended in alcohol (vodka is best per the junkies), and shot up. It plugs into opioid receptors as do narcotics.
Horrible drug, very dirty in it's side effects, risks (especially seizures) and interactions.

I believe, under Cruz' plan, each state would still approve the insurance plan coverage but companies would be allowed to sell across state lines once policy terms are approved in individual states. Prices aren't fixed by the state, allowing price competition (for a change). Life insurance is sold that way, as is auto.

I don't understand why everyone else (from doctors to patients to pharmacists) have to be treated like criminals because a tiny per centage of the population is addicted to opiates.
And you know what else? Heroin is the cheapest opiate on the market. The government (which has called heroin illegal for many decades) can't control its own shit and still lets billions of dollars in heroin in to the country (many of the opium plants are grown in Afghanistan, where our army turns a blind eye to it), but wants to send Grandma and her Dr. to jail because they think Grandma is taking too many pain killers at 85 years old?
