6 In Praise Of Fox News Greg Gutfeld

How thoughtful of The New Yorker to write a piece in praise of Red Eye the week Gutfeld leaves Red Eye.

You know that old saying: the only good conservative is a dead conservative.

Alright, here's the Unbearable Rightness of the Horde.

Everyone in the MSM is going on about Hillary's e-mails and what did other SoSs do and blah blah blah.

No one has mentioned the bit Ace put up about how the e-mail address wasn't delivered in a reply to aFOIA request seeking all of her e-mail addresses. That is more of a smoking gun in my eyes.

I hate being so far ahead of the news cycle that the news cycle never catches up.

Posted by: Bandersnatch at March 04, 2015 09:06 AM (JtwS4)

8 Too bad there's no comments enabled for that New Yorker article.

That would have been the source of some entertainment, from all the Liberal heads going 'splodey.

Posted by: Citizen X at March 04, 2015 09:06 AM (7ObY1)

9 Let's just be really clear on what Hillary did:

She placed *her* need for privacy - having her communications available for viewing by US citizens via FOIA - over *America's* need to have the Sec. of State's communications properly secured and protected from foreign, spying bad actors.

How many times does this administration, and these a$$hole Dems, have to tell us that *we're* the enemy?

Posted by: Lizzy at March 04, 2015 09:06 AM (lHHyw)

10 IBD says HRC's email issue is disqualifying. By whose standards? The current POTUS took illegal foreign money in both campaigns, among dozens of other crimes which should have DQ'ed him. That seems worse than the email issue.

11 Yesterday was a wonderful day to tell the world "Look upon our fully operational President".

Jugears McDumbass could no more deny his nature and rise above pettiness then Hillary could force herself to obey written government e-mail policies.

19 The other scary part is that several of Hillary's closest aides used these unsecured Clintonemail.com com accounts, including Huma Abedin. Huma has ties to the Muslim Brotherhood and at least one terror-supporting Imam.

And were the IT folks who manage the Clinton foundation's email server cleared to manage national security materials? Yeah, doubt it.

And the complaints about Rand Paul not clapping enthusiastically enough yesterday are ridiculous. Is this really what the election's going to be about? Disagree. Of all the things the US is funding that help us, it's Israel's defense. How about stopping aid to the PLO?

There are shitton more billions that can be saved that are greater than the money and aid Israel gets by orders of magnitude.

55 I'm not at all fond of the phrase 'crony capitalism' and it seems to be used more commonly by "conservatives" or those who are mostly on the right. For instance, I've spent a lot of time reading/watching videos about Common Core State Standards, and that phrase comes up a lot by CCSS critics.

My (mental) response is most always the same: 1) Cronyism? - absolutely 2) Greedy and Corrupt? - hell yeah 3) Free Market - not so much.

It just seems to feed into the misconception that if some corrupt bastard is getting rich that it automatically equals 'capitalism'. The Left is more than happy to keep that myth widely held (like fascism/Nazism being "right wing"). Score another victory for the enemy in the language wars.

I always use the phrase 'crony corruption' or something like that.

56 Yeah, um, Dr. Carson....

Jim Geraghty and some others had a really good idea. He should run for the Maryland Senate rather than president. He would be a lot more likely to be successful. But I don't know if pride will allow him to demote himself from presidential candidate to Senate candidates. I'm not saying he's unduly proud, just that it would be tough for anyone to go from presidential candidates to Senate candidates in the same cycle.

It's hard to analyze what is really going with dems since we don't have a clue what the Stupid party is doing.

I suspect that like Gore in 2004, the hildabeest had her shot and failed. Running her again makes little sense. And this way, they can lie and say that warren is an outsider and not part of the obamanation.

This ugliness ties hilary to the current administration, and to its disasterous foreign policy.

The sad thing is that I kind of understand what he means. I still think he's off base (giving in to biological urges in confines where women are not available does not mean that you would "choose" to do so outside of that environment), but at least the idea is quasi-defensible. "Hey, these people choose to act this why, why can't we believe that others outside of prison choose to act this way?"

But that doesn't matter, because the illustration was *so* off base, and *so* open to very legitimate criticism.

Most of it NOT coerced, actually.

When they get out, they leave the gay stuff in prison. If they go back, they pick up where they left off.

In other words, men like to put their wee wee in places that are warm and soft. When the only choice they have for doing so is other men? Lots of them do. Some don't, but lots of them do.

108 Oh, geez - more from the Drudge headline story on Clinton's server:

"Operating her own server would have afforded Clinton additional legal
opportunities to block government or private subpoenas in criminal,
administrative or civil cases because her lawyers could object in court
before being forced to turn over any emails. And since the Secret
Service was guarding Clinton's home, an email server there would have
been well protected from theft or a physical hacking.
But homemade
email servers are generally not as reliable, secure from hackers or
protected from fires or floods as those in commercial data centers.
Those professional facilities provide monitoring for viruses or hacking
attempts, regulated temperatures, off-site backups, generators in case
of power outages, fire-suppression systems and redundant communications
lines."

Most of it NOT coerced, actually.

Except that he's comparing apples and weasels. *IF* there is some genetic (or even early-development psychological) component to homosexuality which drives men to crave intimate contact with other men to the exclusion of women, that will not be disproved by men who have no access to women having sex with other men.

So all it proves is that homosexual *behavior* (like all behavior) is/can be a voluntary act.

Now, I think I've been clear in the past, but let me state for the record here- I do not believe there is a genetic component to homosexuality. I believe that even among those who do not "choose" to be gay, there is a psychological component involved (which is not the same thing as saying it can or even should be "cured"). I do also believe that some people (because I know a couple of them) do, indeed, choose the homosexual lifestyle.

That disclaimer out of the way- I think the prison sex illustration is particularly clumsy, not at all on-point about whether or not sexual orientation in general is a "choice," and not the kind of thing someone serious about being President of the United States should say.

The rates of bisexual activity were substantially higher among the organized crime folks, as were any number of other... shall we say, abnormal sexual habits.

The reasons for this are multiple, and not really worth discussing. Except to say, yeah, if you are thinking of running for President, don't use prison sex as your go-to example for anything.

And that still doesn't matter.

Yes, he's right that something > 50% (even if every encounter were rape, that would still be 50%) of prison sex is a choice. Probably much greater- albeit much of that choice is... persuaded.

That still has nothing to do with homosexuality as a sexual orientation/lifestyle and whether or not it is "chosen" by any individual in question outside the confines of prison.

And even if it did... the perception of the comments is almost as bad (and, in some ways, worse) than Akin's "Legitimate Rape" comment.

175 I don't see how the point about prison rape proves anything about homosexuality being a choice. People in prison are vulgar, and vulgar people tend to be the hedonistic types that will stick their dicks in anything.

Honestly a lot of this "genetic" vs "choice" sounds like a false dichotomy. What important fundamental part of any person's life can be reduced to a single choice? A person's passion for space travel, for example, isn't going to stem from one critical choice in life or some genes. It will be the the end result from the accumulation of very many choices in combination with the environment they were raised in.

If our choice is going to be between state-coerced acceptance and celebration of gays as some sort of "disability accommodation" (which is all the "born like this" argument amounts to) and getting the state out of marriage even for straights, I'll take Plan B.

It would of course make more sense to have this be a state-by-state decision, like abortion and other implacably divisive social/cultural issues, but if we have to have a national approach based on penumbras and emanations of the Constitution, better we leave all questions of the holiness of our matrimony to the churches and we all start drawing up civil marriage contracts rather than having Big Ghey use their spurious marriage rights as a battering ram to butt into our religions, businesses, etc..

And Ben, what the hell was wrong with just saying "I'm opposed to gay marriage because traditional marriage and the nuclear family are quintessentially American building blocks of our society and we don't know where all this experimentation is leading." Or anything other than the Santorum-esque shit that flew out of your mouth. I'm big on stating what you believe rather than over-messaging, but if you really believe prison sex is a good yardstick (SWIDT) with which to measure sexual proclivities, socially or scientifically, I'm not calling your office for a checkup anytime soon, much less voting for you for President. The marriage "debate" is already lost. There won't be another victory for limiting marriage to only between a man and a woman, not at the ballot box, not in any legislative body, and certainly not in any courts.

At some point religious conservatives are going to have to give up the notion that they get to decide how the state defines marriage. I'm not saying that it's right or wrong, only that they are going to have to acknowledge reality as it is, not as they wish it to be.

Since CA allows illegal alien residents to get in-state tuition rates, there's a pretty easy way to adjust that balance: stop allowing non taxpaying foreign invaders to attend state-funded schools at reduced tuition rates.

Of course, we know that will never happen, because it's raaaaacist to try and prevent law-breaking, non-taxpaying foreigners from taking advantage of legal resident U.S. taxpayers.

It's pretty simple. A civil union is a contract between two consenting adults, finished.

More specifically on this comment of yours, "millenia old societal institution of marriage", I don't think you want to be bringing up the historical record for male-female relationships as a way of defending hetero-only marriage. A long time ago most marriages were probably arranged without the woman's consent, and some were probably little more than a legalized sex trade. And honestly in the modern day, what % of hetero marriages in America are essentially legalized prostitution? You think young pretty women marry old lecherous billionaires for their personality?

It's pure Cultural Marxism 101. Breaking down the existing institutions and replacing them with We Love Science Smart Society. Rand wrote about this in the 1920's with "Comrade Sonia" the lesbian Bolshie in "We the Living." The Soviets were all about transgressive sexuality in the Revo (not so much after). Rand lived it in the post-Revo period. Or as Mark Steyn often points out, transgressive sexuality is the only liberty Progs care for. It's sedating ala "Brave New World" and it's anti-political, particularly in its hump-anything-you-want don't judge version. Religion and families, on the other hand, tend to horn in on the State's action.

246 Why is marriage lost? Because straight people defined it down from:

1) a covenant and commitment between a man and a woman that provides an environment in which to raise children (who can only be produced from the union between a man and woman)

to

2) a way of expressing that someone is in love with another person at the moment. If we fall out of love, then there should be little impediment to us dissolving the thing and moving on to the next "in love". After all, the most important thing is for me to be happy.

If marriage is #2 and not #1, then who are we to deny it to any couple (or group - soon to come), even if they are both of the same sex?

It recently occurred to me that this is at the root of the problem, or at least a major part of it.

As Ace so Ace-ily put it - marriage is not a federal licence of going steady.

But that is what it has become in most people's minds.

How is giving two gay adults the right to live life as they want coercing your acceptance or celebration of said lifestyle? Are you coercing hippies to celebrate guns by being a gun enthusiast? Are American chain restaurants literally coercing other countries to abandon their traditional food when they open said restaurant in a foreign country?

Do I think Walker is perfect? Hell no. Am I worried that his candidacy will be Rick Perry 2.0? Yup. But I think that it's a bit much to all of a sudden say omg he's not ready at all and freak out because of what he may or may not have said at CPAC.

I think it was John Leo who spoke about how sad it is that after 2000 years over which Judeo-Christianity had finally sold men on monogamy and the nuclear family (pre-Christian pagan societies having comparatively scorned women and kids but for their utility), the last century plus seems hell-bent on going back to the screw-anything model - while we're ironically abandoning screwing in huge numbers throughout the West.

"Netanyahu didn't come there to get something from Obama because he
knows the president will give him nothing. And besides the cupboard,
truth be told, is probably bare. He came for old time's sake; with a
sadness in his heart that Nancy Pelosi couldn't even begin to imagine;
with the kind of grief that comes from seeing something once beautiful
and powerful now broken down and grubbing at the level of the petty,
malicious, lying politicians who dominate it. He came to warn anyone who
would listen to wake up, though his words were doubtless wasted on the
sleeping.

It would be asking too much for the administration's supporters to
agree with Netanyahu. But perhaps it might be permissible to request
that they remember what he said, so that in the coming months, as the
disasters unfold and things go ever more wrong, they might cast their
minds back and ask: 'could he have been right?' "

Spot on except for Obama's supporters ever considering that Netanyahu might have been right. They have too much hate for Israel to ever think that clearly.

Basically, however you feel now, feels like you've felt that way forever. That's part of the problem with depression. Ppl forget they were ever happy. Feel like they've always been miserable.

When you get a cough that won't go away. After a few weeks it feels like you've always been sick.

When ppl say they've "always" felt a certain way -- they are wrong, they're just saying they feel this way now, and have for at least several weeks.

When those two adults use the state as a cudgel to influence my choices (e.g. bake my cake, rent me your honeymoon suite, etc) it's coercion. Pretty simple. Look at the cop in SLC who was disciplined for refusing to ride in the Gay Pride Parade. People were complaining that it was a 14th Am "Equal Protection" issue. As if there weren't sufficient cops to "protect" the parade (and from what) if they let him exercise his rights to live his life as he wanted?

Big Ghey isn't about "letting adults live life as they want" - that's what we were doing before 2% of the population decided to culturally carpet bomb the rest of us via the courts. It's about "I'm here, I'm queer, deal with it." It's about using society as a straw man for the parents, coaches and others who wouldn't accept them and teaching those fuckers a lesson.

Marriage and divorce are both common experiences. In Western cultures, more than 90 percent of people marry by age 50. Healthy marriages are good for couples' mental and physical health. They are also good for children; growing up in a happy home protects children from mental, physical, educational and social problems. However, about 40 to 50 percent of married couples in the United States divorce. The divorce rate for subsequent marriages is even higher.

309 On Walker's Fox-y staff: We have nearly 200 million women in America, and they're lopsidedly going to college 60-40+. I could assemble a group of 500 hot women standing on the corner in downtown San Diego for 2 hours on a Saturday night, 2/3 of which would be college educated and probably at least half in jobs which would be useful to a campaign. There are a lot of hot educated women out there, and Prezzie campaign staffs aren't that huge. I know old-boy attorneys whose entire practice groups are staffed by hot qualified women, and they don't have the juice Walker has. He has no shortage of qualified hot applicants.

372 I've mentioned this before but what the hell.

My grandparents lived next door to a gay couple. Richard and Lee. Two very sweet guys who have been together longer than I've been alive. They've never done any agitating for anything political, though they are democrats. This isn't really about them though, it's about my grandparents.

My grandparents were Reagan democrats. When Richard and Lee moved in, it was a bit of a scandal. Grandpa, especially, could be a bit bigoted in all areas. Grandma was a good Christian who worried about their souls.

And you know what? They all got a long fine. Grandma and Richard gardened together. Grandpa fixed their cars. Richard ended up a pall bearer at Grandma's funeral. Even though my grandparents disapproved of their "lifestyle" they loved them as sons and took care of them when they had hard times.

That's what liberals don't understand. It isn't about "hate". People can disagree with something without hating someone.

Posted by: Lauren at March 04, 2015 10:54 AM (MYCIw)

373 And as for "practical benefits" of marriage, contract law has that covered. That's why I'm saying we could farm the entire legal dimension out the contracts and leave the rest to the churches (including the ones you cite that are copacetic with marrying gays).

If that's not enough, then it's about making us accept them, not anything practical.

I distrust arguments from practicality because they tend to mask ideology or sentiment the speaker doesn't want to admit. You're clearly sympathetic to the cause in that you're advancing the "Noble Gay" myth - the Noble (Dan) Savage. Own it. I disagree, but I don't damn you, and it's more honest.

Hold on, California is batshit insane on lots of things, which is going to distort this. I live in the midwest and every gay person I've encountered is normal and mostly typical, as are everyone else.
