As Expected, John Boehner Sells Out the Conservatives In Yet Another Performance of "Failure Theater"

Failure Theater is the process by which the Establishment deliberately fails to do achieve anything, but wants credit from the Dumb Conservatives they're playing to for allegedly "trying."

Each of Boehner's and McConnell's "defeats" are in fact planned in advance. They are not trying to advance the conservative agenda; they are attempting to con conservatives into believing they have attempted to implement conservative policy, when in fact they were delivering their political deliverables to their Donor Class paymasters all along.

Uneducated, gullible, and easily led: if we stand for this, we are exactly what the Washington Post slurred us as 30 years ago.

8 Can someone explain to me, seriously, why the GOP in congres is caving on every single issue?

Is it because, although they JUST WON AND ELECTION and JUST TOOK OFFICE, they are already worry about memes in attack ads put out by progressives in 2016 races??

Or is it that they really secretly are progressive politicians themselves, and pretend not to be?

Or or they simply beaten, gagged, and bound by their fear of the Mainstream Media's liberal pundits?

Or what?

Nothing will change. Because the establishment has been doing this forever and it's always worked for them, and no one seems to have the balls to actually step up and try to create a viable third party option.

And my gut says that even if they did, the R establishment would find a way to co-opt it.

39 zombie: "Can someone explain to me, seriously, why the GOP in congres is caving on every single issue?"

Let me try.

There are three major parties in the U.S. government.

One stands for a generally dovish foreign policy, and the rapid expansion of government activity and spending in most domestic policy.

One stands for a generally hawkish policy and the gradual expansion of government activity and spending in most domestic policy.

One has mixed views on foreign policy and wants a smaller government that spends less.

The latter two parties are called Republican. The middle one holds the leadership in congress, knows it can reach an accommodation with the first, and knows it can't with the third.

50 But WHY are they not on our side?

Because our side limits them.

Our side requires virtues like honesty, and thrift, and industry from them. The other side requires no such thing- and offers them great enticements besides.

We want them to represent us, to limit their own power, and to serve as a needed check on both the Executive and the Judiciary. The other side simply wants them to allow the graft and corruption to continue, to allow (and even participate) in government expansion and usurpation of power, and to simply wash their hands when something goes wrong.

51 Posted by: zombie at March 03, 2015 02:28 PM (K4YiS)

Because, like Milton Friedman said (paraphrasing here), the trick isn't to find the right people to be our politicians, its to set up the incentives that force the wrong people to do the right things.

But we (the voters, the base, the extremists, whatever you want to call "us") do not have any control over the incentive structure beyond our votes. And our votes are now a binary "vote for whichever party you think sucks fewer balls", which means we really don't have much say or influence over incentives at all.

97 There are three major parties in the U.S.

I'm beginning to see why Reagan is such a towering figure in history.

Eisenhower: Increased the power and size of government.

Nixon: Increased the power and size of government.

Ford: Did nothing.

Bush I: Did nothing.

Bush II: : Increased the power and size of government.

ONLY Reagan -- out of all of them -- even paid lip service to - and in some cases delivered -- a deminuation of the influence the bureaucracy over our lives.

He was only marginally successful, in just a few areas, but he was the only one even pulling in that direction.

All the rest -- and needless to say, 100% of Dems as well -- pushed for Big Government.

137 Can someone explain to me, seriously, why the GOP in congres is caving on every single issue?

-----

Here are my reasons:

1. The GOP Congress is fairly divided - let's say the conservatives and the establishment group for simplicity. And those two groups do not agree on policy or strategy.

2. In general each Congressperson is interested in two things: (a) being elected, and (b) being part of the majority. There is probably a third - chairing. I have no doubt that many also want to advance certain positions - though they may disagree with those positions - but not to the point of taking risks.

3. Human nature is go along to get along.

Where I think the founders were wrong about Congress is that there are so many people in Congress (and they are elected every 2 years), as a whole, it becomes weak compared to the other branches, who are much more interested in protecting and expanding their power relative to the other branches.

159 There is strong consensus among the grassroots that the GOPe is a problem. Not so strong a consensus as to what to do about it.

I don't believe that inaction or not voting GOP is an option any longer. I don't believe that supporting an existing third party is an option, either, per the Ross Perot debacle in 1992.

The only alternative that I see is for registered Republicans to do everything in their power to actively thwart the national and state hierarchies. We must work to kill Republicanism.

At the same time, we need a respected figure--we will need someone of Lincoln or Reagan's caliber--to unit the populist base and the third parties, with enough money and support to relegate the GOP to permanent third party status (or better, extinction).

Courts are overturned routinely. Besides, I think many rightly think that this court decision makes defunding look stronger because you have a court on your side. If you lose the court decision on appeals you are now having to argue to defund something that the courts have upheld.

Here the court is your friend.

Let me answer that one for you. You and I both know what would happen. The libs would go stark raving mad. They would do anything and everything possible, both legal and non legal to put a stop to the lawlessness currently going on. They would fight tooth and nail, not roll over in a fetal position.

Another thing we always need to bear in mind is they control the MSM too. In other words, regardless of what really happened, conservatives will always be portrayed in a negative light. Here's a scarier thought for you: what if we keep printing and "borrowing" indefinitely.

It's never been tried before (with a reserve currency that's a fiat currency), say it works. I mean, the people continue to get poorer, but the government never has any issues.

I mean, at some point it will come crashing down. But that could be hundreds of years in the future. And by that time, the Eloi will be all that's left to pick up the pieces.

But I don't give them my money, which would be considered chump change to them anyway. I don't campaign for them or take their side on virtually anything anymore. I'm an ex-Republican now and all involved are OK with that.

But in my heart, deep down inside, I loathe and despise Democrats far more, they really earned it. I mean what else can I feel but contempt and loathing for a Party that voted to go to war and then a scant 3 years later acted as if they were against the war from the outset.

Right, and it also wasn't a career path.

Every single member of congress had a real job. That's why they spend most of the year at home. So that they could tend to their fields, hang out with their constituents, practice law, or whatever they did to make a living.

Because the founders did not want our congress to turn in to the house of lords where a bunch of rich, disconnected assholes sits around opining on the fate of the serfs.

But that's now what we have. 90% of people in congress have never put in an honest days work in their lives unless you consider staying up late drinking redbull studying for the LSATs real work.

And they move to areas where they think they can win an election. They have no ties to the people who live there, they spend most of their in DC or their vacation home.

Some members don't even have a house in their district / state. They're at the "fuck it" stage though, most still pretend...

290 I think the last election gives us a pretty decent indication of what we are up against. I can't speak for all of you, but the GOPe showed me its true colors during the last election and it wasn't pretty. The GOPe is all about the e. Challenge them and they will treat you just like the libs treat anyone who disagrees with them. After a condescending pat on the head, we are told to STFU and sit down because they know what is best for us, amirite?

I'm no Washington insider, but from my bitter clinger perspective here in flyover country, DC is about two things; money and power. Without it, nobody really gives a flying flip what you think or want unless you get the biased MSM behind you and throw a serious light on an issue.

I think it is time we got us some of that clout. I don't have all the answers, but I think a good model would be the NRA. Instead of being about guns, the new party could be about limited government and lower taxes. I think if/as it picked up steam, it would expose the GOPe for the bloated, out of touch, self serving party is has become.

I know, I know, easier said than done, right? The first step is usually the hardest one. I don't know about all of you, but I sense a LOT of people are ready to start stepping?

Posted by: 2L at March 03, 2015 03:13 PM (TaO1J)

291 Screw this relentless drive toward conformity.

States are different. They should have different models. We then get to see the result of competition.

i.e. blue CA = shit, red TX = shinola

This is healthy. We need bigger attention to what states do better than the foul nest of the feds.

For a long time, I thought the same thing. I'm now not so sure. More is better from a representative standpoint, but it may lead to a weaker Congress as a whole.

-----

My point is this. If you are 1 of 50 in a branch that is 1/3 of the government, you have (from a mathmatical standpoint) a 0.66% power base. If you are 1 of 435, you have a 0.076% power base. Your relative power in the federal government is much greater the smaller Congress is.

Would that lead a congress person to protect the 1/3 power base more (meaning protect Congress as a whole)? If your power is already so diffused because you are 1 of 435, do you just not care to protect your 1/3 power base?

I'm simply proposing the question. I've never seen anyone address the issue, but I think it is worthy of consideration.

1.) Locate members of Congress that are worth a rat. There are a few, believe it or not.

2.) Add to this as many of the good state and local conservatives in government as you can lay your hands on.

3.) Break them off as the core of your new Party.

This works best if the results puts the ( D ) and ( R ) numbers at dead even. Then either you have leverage or the R charade comes to a final end, which is itself a useful outcome.

335 Where I think the founders were wrong about Congress is that there are so many people in Congress (and they are elected every 2 years), as a whole, it becomes weak compared to the other branches, who are much more interested in protecting and expanding their power relative to the other branches.
Posted by: SH at March 03, 2015 02:47 PM (gmeXX)

The Founders weren't wrong, what they didn't count on was that the process they created to amend the constitution would be used to make the constitution and the branches of government watered down and completely removed from their original design.

Remember, the founders wanted the Senate to be a deliberative, cooling off place for bills that could be passed in the heat of an event with little thought by the "people's house". The Founders were trying to avoid a mob rule or democratic type of government.

The senators were to be selected by each state's gov. and able to be recalled by the state's legislative body. They were supposed to represent the state's population as much as possible.

We amended the constitution to make Senators an elected by the populace position, held for six years. We have senators(and congressmen) who are pointed to with pride now for having been reelected for decades. Senators who cannot even hold a pen are voting....

And then there is the little amendment known as the fourteenth, which sounds noble on the surface, but has been used to take away everyone's freedom and ability to choose how to live their life.

Boehner relies on Democrat votes to pass the Democrat agenda often. This isn't some change. He gets the votes when he needs them, like on the vote for Speaker, the vote for allowing cromnibus to come to the floor (just to name a few recent votes), but allows them to vote against him when he doesn't need the vote, like here. Or on the final cromnibus vote. That's what makes it theater. If they were just forthright in their voting, it wouldn't be theater.

Democrats commence bottom-feeding over a Real Statesman speaking to the Congress. Some of them undoubtedly have staffs hard at work figuring out exactly where the line falls between the party money (okay, it's a stereotype, but there ARE lots of Jews involved there, many don't call themselves Zionists but aren't willing to wash their hands of Israel) and the activist end of the party rabble (which doesn't much care about distinctions between anti-Israel, anti-Zionist, and anti-Semitic.)

Hillary exposed as utterly lawless by NYT, left pundits scramble around like ants whose hill is on fire, the ones who got the memo join in the condemnation, the ones who didn't rush to defend. I figure the word's going out that Hillary's too slow and not left enough and needs to be hit hard enough to drive her out of the race early enough to get the Real Left like Warren in.
