Buzzfeed: The NY Observer Seems to Have a Kremlin Stooge Writing "Slavishly" Pro-Putin Stories for Them

"Slavishly." See what they did there?

Not only is this "writer" a stooge, but Buzzfeed raises the question (via raising the question) as to whether this "writer" actually exists in the form of an actual person, rather than (this is my supposition) as the work-product of several Kremlin hands pushing disinformation to the low-paying-but-content-hungry rags of the west.

A New York Observer editor says he's met this "writer," but who knows-- every propaganda effort needs a frontman.

34 If the Kremlin really are engaging in Astroturf journalism, all they're doing is copying the highly successful model which the Democrat-Media Complex have employed for decades in the USA.

There are a lot of lazy lefty "journalists" who are willing to accept, and lightly polish up, and present as their own work, articles originally cranked out in back rooms at MoveOn, ThinkProgress, and MediaMatters.

There are a _whole lot_ of such "journalists".

55 Speaking of ISIS (and no, this is a different story than them burning the children of the St. Vincent de Paul volunteers from the last thread)...

ISIS announced the execution of 21 Copts but only 20 names were confirmed, most of them were from the province of Minya(Upper Egypt). There was an inaccuracy in the number of Egyptian Hostages; there were only 20 Egyptians(Copts). Then who was this remaining one non-Coptic victim?

Ahram-Canadian News was able to gather information about this man. He was a Chadian Citizen (Darker skin shown in picture) who accepted Christianity after seeing the immense faith of his fellow Coptic Christians to die for Christ. When Terrorist forced him to reject Jesus Christ as God, looking at his Christian friends he replied, "their God is my God" so the terrorist beheaded him also.

62 Another Astroturf media op, this one Chinese, was easily visible after the 2008 Sichuan earthquake, where an amazingly large number of public school buildings collapsed, crushing and maiming and killing the pupils inside.

I was amazed at the extent to which the Chicom government went with sockpuppetry on the Internet to downplay or dismiss altogether the issue. A massive, massive effort to defend the legitimacy of the PRC state apparat against criticism.

74 @28 - yeah, they're out there, and they're not very subtle.

I think Putin is a much smarter and more capable leader than our JEF. He does what he perceives - and what most Russians would probably perceive - as being in the interests of his country.

Much of it, of course, runs counter to any equally reasonable assessment of American or Western interests, but he's done a very good job of finding Western weaknesses and exploiting them and since the few Western leaders with spines represent countries with little muscle in foreign affairs, he'll get away with it so long as he can afford to pay for it.

Question: if WWIII had actually begun all the way back in the 1990s, at a slow pace, what about that would look different from now?

Consider that we Americans think of WWII as having taken place between 1941 and 1945. The British obviously think of it as having a different and longer time frame. 1939 or 1940 to 1945.

The Japanese dissident historian Saburo Ienaga dated what he called The Pacific War from the earliest Imperial Japanese expansions, which means WWII actually ran from 1931 through 1945 for those directly affected.

141 "I'm pretty sure most journalists dedicated themselves to 'working for change' in J-school"

The American press corps have never at any time in the entire history of the country been very good at what they do, but there was a giant downward step function from already low levels right at the time that the J-schools first rose to prominence.

When being a cub reporter turned from an apprenticeship system, involving lots of burning of shoe leather and grunt work covering low level local stories for years, to a credentialed professional system with degrees, in which elite J-school alumni had conferred upon them an immediate right to dive into reporting on national high level stories.

It hasn't worked out for the best.

Thank goodness that the market share shrinkage of the snooze media, and the rise of the Internet as an equilibration mechanism, is starting to chip away at that model.

199 "and was again surprised (don't ask me why) how much deceit, propaganda and Dem-sucking can be put out in one relatively simple, everyday article."

In the last two days, I've read about forty articles and listened to eight radio reports about the Netanyahu visit.

Every single one, without exception, has parroted the line that the speech to Congress was scheduled without informing the White House. (Some of the reports and articles explicitly describe this as a rude snub of Obama, with all the others implicitly suggesting it as such.)

Never mind that the White House was informed well in advance of the intent to book the speech, and simply ignored the matter out of either ideological arrogance or operational incompetence.

Listen up! This narrative ain't gonna shape itself!
