Hey, you asked a question about EMPs on the other thread. It's something I've been wondering about for a while.

My guess, and it's only a guess, is that an EMP really isn't feasible. I'm thinking that the effect of detonating a nuke at that altitude isn't really known, especially as to the ground radius. The other thought that occurs to me is that you would totally screw up (and destroy) a shit-load of satellites if you detonate one that high up. So a lot more collateral damage then just wiping out a single countries power and electronic system.

Anyhow, my .02.

Need to go and remove the 5"of global warming we got last night. A pain in the ass snow.

We've had 2 good substantive drops, followed by a ton of 4-6" snows. Just enough to drain the salt/sand piles and wear the equipment out.

And the cumulative depth now is surprising.

Hey, did anybody watch Parks and Rec? I just watched the last season yesterday and I am so glad Chris Pratt has started doing movies because he really does have a presence. I watched the episode aboutJohnny Karate's musical show or whatever it was called and I wanted Chris to do a show where he plays Burt Macklin (fake FBI agent) and a show with Johnny Karate and basically so many things I want him to do as an actor. He really is entertaining.

They also had some pretty funny googleish backlash privacy stuff, although I found the dem congressman cameo's annoying as usual. And there were a ton of them. Ron Swanson is the best, also.

One of the lesser appreciated actions of Ronaldus Magnus. Unions generally and public sector ones especially were getting increasingly militant through the late 70s, to the point that we were on course to follow the UK (which had the same problem then, only worse).

Ronaldus Magnus fired their asses for breaking their no-strike agreement, and his popularity skyrocketed. That put all unions - but again, especially public sector ones - on notice that if they got out of line they were giving politicians an easy way to instant popularity by kicking them in the balls. So they piped down.

Yep. It was the perfect opportunity to put a lid on that shit. A union of Federal employees striking in contravention of a no-strike agreement. The issue was perfectly teed up.
This is what Jugears fails to grasp (or among the things he fails to grasp, assuming he has anything good in mind for America, which I often doubt). You can't always act the way you'd like; sometimes the situation just doesn't give you that option.

Russia invades Ukraine ... pretty tough to do much about that (certainly militarily). Too far from us, too close to them, etc. So when you do get a chance to play it tough (e.g., missiles for Poland), you have to take it. It sends a message that carries over to instances where you can't do shit, and makes your enemies think twice.
But if you whiff when you do have the chance, you embolden your enemies to try it on, and then you might have to go to the mattresses big time if they have miscalculated how serious you are. See, e.g., European history up to September 1, 1939.

I haven't read the story, but I wouldn't be too sure about that. The cops need to get certification from one or more shrinks that he poses an imminent threat to himself or others. Not at some unspecified time in the future.

We had a guy here who tried to shoot up an elementary school (nice, right?) who was a frequent flyer with the cops. His neighbors had been reporting him for bizarre and disturbing behavior on a monthly basis, but nothing specific enough in time and nature for a shrink to authorize bagging him.

Of course, trying to shoot up and then blow up a school (with a propane tank) made that call a lot easier.

206 202 The other thing I remember when Reagan was first elected was all of the vitriolic hate spewed at him by the left.

"Insane Anglo Warlord", etc., etc.

Sound familiar?

I remember that all too well. Shows just how deep the Communist rot extended even then.
