Less Than Half of Americans Say Obama "Loves Americans"
So let's rush to endorse the Progressive Position on this, because even though that position only attracts 47% -- yes, The Forty Seven Percent, none of whom will ever vote for us -- it's imperative that we flatter the sensibilities of Progressives and the people Matt K. Lewis hopes to work for one day because while they're not a majority, they're simply Better People and their beliefs are therefore Better Beliefs. *
Democrats are convinced he does love his country (85 percent of those surveyed answered yes in the poll), while Republicans (69 percent no) are skeptical. Independents break in the president’s favor by only 42 percent to 38 percent. Nationally, only 47 percent of people think the nation’s leader loves America while 35 percent do not.My position on this is a little Nuanced, so Marie Harf might appreciate this. I don't think "Obama doesn't love America" is slogan we can affirmatively run on in the sense that we take this motto to market and tell people "Vote for us; look at this awesome thing we're saying." I think swing voters fancy themselves as being Above such Personalized Politics. They like to think of themselves as Voting on the Issues, not on the People, and they like to think that all these people who talk about Specific People in politics are A Little Strange and Not Like Us. Of course, the reality is this: Most of these people don't talk about Specific People in politics because they don't know the names of Specific People in politics. That is, they are ignorant, but like all ignorant people, they like to pretend their Not Knowing Th9ngs is somehow Noble and Better Than Knowing Things. Their position is also incoherent because "Voting on the Issues" and not Voting on People means voting on ideology, and they like to think of themselves as Definitely Not Ideological Like Those Partisan Crazies Who Know the Names of People in Government. Instead they like to think of themselves as Practical, Centered, Normal Non-Crazy People Who Vote Neither On Personality Nor Ideology But Whatever Criterion Remains, Which Is Actually "Practically No Information At All But Instead an Ignorant Gauze of Some Personal Feeling and Some Vague and Unexamined Ideological Impulse." In other words, they're dumb, lazy, self-aggrandizing and self-deluding, like most Americans. But even so, the way it is is just the way it is, and we cannot change this. We can grumble about it, but we have to acknowledge this as the Governing Reality: These idiots, who actually vote a lot more on Personal Attacks than they are capable of comprehending, will scream "I don't want to hear your Personal Attacks, you Partisan!" if you get too loud and too forward leaning with this "Obama doesn't love his country"

Some reasonable percentage of Democrats must be Christian, or actively believe that American Exceptionalism is a trait to be cherished and is not in fact on a par with Greek Exceptionalism.
This man grew up largely outside of America, and even when living on a rock in the ocean that America stole he didn't do American things. He didn't play little league, he wasn't a Boy Scout, he didn't learn that America is an ideal.

Obama is the Don, and the other members of the mob aren't going to challenge him unless they think they could take his position and come out personally better for it.

Now, the LIVs are different. They still think of the government as being there "to help". If there was an opposition party to the Democrats they would point out that is pretty much the opposite of what the modern government does...

I think this sort of thing can lead to a preference cascade, just as the kid proclaiming the emperor had no clothes got others to admit the same.
Because if you accept that Obama doesn't love America, it cast his presidency in a completely different light. This leads to re-interpreting events and actions.
It removes the benefit of the doubt he is ALWAYS granted by LIVs - because you don't want to be called a racist, and you sure as hell don't want to consider his actions don't have America's best interests at heart. That might force you to leave the middle ground and actually take a side *shivers*.

I grew up in Bucks County, PA and these crucial White Educated Upper Middle Class Independents in Bucks County, PA I keep hearing so much about is accurate.
It's really a 50/50 area, it's at least a bellwether and potentially a tipping point in elections. My high school friends now scattered across the country still post 50/50 red-blue stuff on FB.

Yes, Obama and the Progs have screwed up every alliance we have, grabbed defeat from the jaws of victory in Afghasistan and Iraq, reset Russian relations back thirty-five years and are busy trying to surrender to Iran. All of those things are true.
But if the economy was growing and Americans were working, instead of the disaster the Obama regulatory regime has yielded, we'd laugh off some of these challenges and beat back the remainder.

From what I've seen their specific shtick is to carefully consider the quotes/stories they fact check to advance their agenda.
So they'll take obviously fake stories/quotes about Obama and call them false which presents the illusion that similar damning ones are also false.
For example, if you look up Obama's 57 states quote you'll see that it is labelled "mixture".
He said it...so why is it partially true? Because the claim that it was in reference to 57 Islamic states has no support. Why are these two items specifically combined? So they can call it "mixture".

The problem is really ignorance not intelligence.
LIVs have decided, consciously or not, that it is not worth their time to actually think about politics for more then the bare minimum they are forced to.
Interestingly, because there is really only one political party now - the government party - their analysis would appear to be correct.
I've been involved with elections and politics for... a while. And for the foreseeable future I don't see any political/electoral solutions to the mess we are in. I can easily see a President Jeb win in 2016 with both houses of congress and not a damn thing changing after his coming into office.

From what I've seen their specific shtick is to carefully consider the quotes/stories they fact check to advance their agenda.
So they'll take obviously fake stories/quotes about Obama and call them false which presents the illusion that similar damning ones are also false.
For example, if you look up Obama's 57 states quote you'll see that it is labelled "mixture".
He said it...so why is it partially true? Because the claim that it was in reference to 57 Islamic states has no support. Why are these two items specifically combined? So they can call it "mixture".

Air quality in Los Angeles County used to be a pretty serious issue. I've mentioned here before that my Dad used to have a picture taken from his office high up in a tall building in LA that showed yellow clouds floating around some of the other buildings in the city. The air quality here wasn't as bad as in China. But it was still pretty bad.
Unfortunately, the perceptions that caused have never really gone away.

It reminds me of something my grandpa used to talk about - when he was a young man living on the east side of Manhattan in the '30s and '40s, his congressman was an outright Communist named Vito Marcantonio. Decades later, Grandpa would still get pissed when talking about how so many of his paisanos in the neighborhood just loved Marcantonio just because of his ethnicity - "who cares if he's Italian, the sonofabitch was a Communist!"
Odd quirk of fate that 3 of 4 of my grandparents grew up in blue-collar immigrant households in NYC, which should have meant they were FDR worshipping Dems, yet they all despised the Democrat Party.

Spot on, Ace. A legit opposition party would be motivated to defeat, not "work with" the other party - assuming it believed its own rhetoric about "we're good for America, they're bad for America." It would formulate its positions based on two factors, either/or: 1) where do we have public support and/or 2) where is the other party vulnerable? It would actively seek political advantage at every turn.
Instead, the Republicans want to "work with" a party that's core-rotten with anti-Western bomb-throwers and corrupt stooges. They self-censor their own efforts by looking at every issue through elite-tinged glasses. Two-thirds of the public opposes amnesty or ObamaCare? So what when the GOP leadership agrees with the one third.
There is no legitimate opposition party today because the leaders of the nominal opposition are part of the ruling monoculture and they've managed to kabuki their rank-and-file into keeping them in office despite not representing their views or working in their interests.

I started working in restaurants when I was in 11 and soon realized that was the only "break" you got. Plus I liked that it was rebellious.
I once quit for more than two years but have been back smoking again. The truth, for me I think, is to stop drinking as well for that "quitting smoking" period because alcohol surely drives the connection hard (strangely not coffee) and weakens willpower.
