Mayor Rahm Emanuel is expected to beat the 50%+1 threshold and avoid a runoff, but his challengers, fueled by everything from union anger to red light cameras, might make things interesting. The one in our town sold beer, wine and liquor seven days a week (after 12:00 on Sunday). This was in the grocery store.
In Naperville, you could buy groceries in the Jewel, but had to check out, carry your groceries to the car, and then go in the ?? Osco (or was it the Jewel?) and buy your alcohol separately.
So very strange, weird, and a pain-in-the-ass.

If that 20% of the state is just 60% liberal, while the rest of the state is only 40% liberal, that's enough to swing every statewide election in favor of Democrats. Assuming there's no crossover voting, a statewide election will result in a 52-48 Democrat victory.
And I suspect Chicago is well over 60% liberal.

WTF? I've lived here all my life, Chicago was usually considered to have half the population. Now w/ the suburban growth the Chicago metro area is 65%. The suburbs used to be Rep, but as Jane pointed out they are increasingly Dem.
County by county in the last Gov. election Quinn only carried Cook, the other 101 counties all went Rep for Rauner.
