Progressives Reveal, Once Again, Their Complete Contempt for the Religious, Religion, Religiosity, and God

A prog troll running a site called "Political Wire" goofed on Scott Walker for saying he was waiting for God's guidance before deciding on a bid for President.

He made fun of prayer qua prayer -- just the whole idea of prayer was silly to him.

Well, yes. You're a progressive. Like most progressives, you are an atheist, or you offer up blather about some vague pseudo-religion blending Buddhism, yoga, the Thoreauean "oversoul" and Pilates.

Sort of like Obama, actually.

A guy on twitter named @johnriverstoo pointed out that Obama just spoke at the National Prayer Breakfast and Political Wire didn't make fun of prayer then.

Why?

Because this guy believes what we all pretty much know to be true-- that Obama's protestations of being a Christian are a sham intended only to maintain his political viability, just like his lies about being in favor of traditional marriage ("God's in the mix" in marriage, Obama said, hilariously) and that business about keeping your doctor.

We all know this, and the left demonstrates it every day with their open contempt of the Christian God while simultaneously finding nothing mock-worthy in Obama's very rare allusions to the Christian God; and Bill Maher, a million dollar donor to Obama, openly proclaims Obama to be an atheist, like himself, just pretending to be a Christian For The Rubes.

By the way: I don't remember the media getting huffy about Maher's statement.

I also don't remember Obama denying it.

You know, if I believed that Christ had saved me through nothing but my belief in Him and someone said publicly that I did not believe in him, I would go on TV to publicly state "yes, Mr. Maher, I appreciate your support, but in fact I do recognize Christ as my Lord and Savior."

Obama didn't say that though. Here's what Obama said:

Nothing.

And of course the Super-Christian Obama never bothered to get a new church in DC, or go to church ever, or even mention Jesus on Easter, but whatever, sure, it's a terrible thing for Scott Walker to say "I don't know if he's a Christian or not."

12 Of course they goofed on Walker saying that. Seriously - what kind of mouth-breather waits on God to tell him anything?

You have to identify who is in your tribe and who is not. Professing a faith in Christianity is a shibboleth for one particular tribe. Add in professing a love for your country, well now we know what tribe you are in and we can chase you with sticks.

Progressive atheists aren't.

Progressives believe in a collective god just like all other Leftists: NAZIs had the "volk", Communists have "the proletariat:, and the Jacobins had "Volonté générale"

The Progressive god is "the will of the people".

The Progressives have their own holy trinity: The "people," the state, and the Prog elite - standing in for the father the holy ghost and son.

Alternatively, for them there is no got but the state (or the people, with the state being but the Kabbalah), and the Prog elite are its prophet.

75 On Obama's pretend religiosity, let's remember one of the most extreme manifestations thereof. The South Carolina primary in 2008. Which had its own brutal internal logic.

Obama needed to put away Hillary in SC.

To win a strongly contested Democratic primary in SC, the black church vote is crucial.

The black church in SC is amazingly homophobic, as it is pretty much everywhere in the country. (For example, here in Commiefornia, the black churches pulled like Clydesdales to pass the Proposition 8 anti-gay-marriage ballot initiative.) Few things galvanize them more than hating them some fags.

So, Obama at a campaign rally in SC put on stage a black guy who purports to be an "ex-gay", cured of what he called the "illness" of homosexuality via "reparative therapy" and by "the love of Christ".

That worked quite well with the target audience, and the black church vote in SC put Obama over the top and into the nomination.

But I would like all of you to imagine for just half a second the exploding galactic core of identity-politics rage which would have resulted if such a figure had ever been prominently put on stage at a Republican political rally. There would have been hysterical screams about "bigoted theocracy" and "fundamentalist fascism" for months on end at top volume.

Since Obama was the political figure who did it?

Did you never read Aquinas? The Bible? C.S. Lewis?

For pity's sake, have you never read Mitch Freaking Albom?

It's not so much being ignorant (in the sense of not knowing) of the role of prayer in a Christian's life that is insulting. It's the being proudly unwilling to even bother to learn the most basic elements of faith that is.

Hell, I've read all kinds of books on all kinds of religions in which I do not believe because, get this, I am interested in the world around me and want to know what it is that people think. Funny that.

100 No, the question to Obama should be "There have been many questions regarding evolution lately? Do believe God is our creator?"

Flip the question. I'd love to see his response or more accurately the presses reaction to his response.

----

I'd prefer something more specific. I think a lot on the left probably believe in a God the creator. But I think it ends there. He created us and moved on.

I'd rather it be asked - do you believe that Jesus Christ existed, that Jesus was God, that Jesus died for our sins, and that Jesus resurrected three days later.

If you cannot affirmatively answer those questions, then you may believe in God, but you are not a Christian. That certainly doesn't make you a bad person, but you should not be saying something you are not.

Honestly, I think a lot of people identify as Christians but are very uncomfortable with those questions to the point of being unwilling to declare them to be true.

104 I have long maintained that any doubts about Barky's faith were confirmed, as a True Christian (TM) would have not quietly stood by and allowed themselves to be given the Messiah treatment like BO was when the Democrat primaries and convention were happening in '08. No believer would allow themselves to be deified like President JEF did.

I don't think he's even a "secular humanist."

I think he's just a malignant narcissist. Philosophically/Culturally he's probably Mohammedan (it was the culture in which he was reared and spent his formative years), but as far as actual religion goes? I suspect he doesn't believe that anyone but him is "real."

Obama has an ongoing conversation with God, in which he asks *himself* questions and also says that sin is "being out of alignment with my values."

But religious people of color, that's cool. And somehow quaint to them. Like an indigenous primitive people found living in a remote Amazon forest.

If you look at Pew Research's data, you get ~70% of Americans who identify as Christian of some stripe or another. Once you start asking them specific doctrinal questions, such as you specify, the numbers start wheedling down significantly; you get similar effects if you look at the frequency of church attendance (weekly vs. monthly or less.)

My own interpretation of Pew's data puts the number of "actual" American Christians, not just "identifying" Christians, at ~30%, give or take.*

* Large margin of error. Regional differences notwithstanding. Your mileage may vary.

So, according to that logic, since there are 2.2 billionChristians in the world, Christians are allowed to have 97.7 million Christian terrorists and it still won't be a problem.

That he could spend one day, much less decades, in a nutcase racist whacko "church" like he did in Chicago - and still be viable as a national candidate ..... well, pretty much sums up the (unalterable) state of the nation and electorate.

But at least Americans (the minority with a clue), if they are younger especially, get to feel what it was like for poor citizens of Soviet-bloc nations, or North Korea, or your wackier Third World dictatorships (Central African Empire/Bokasa I, Cuba, Uganda/Amin). To have such an artless, transparent, crudely mendacious "leader" who is virtually worshipped by the secular institutions - hell, whose wife is treated like Madame Ceaucescu. The debasement. The degradation of the hapless citizen, who must simply trudge on while these ridiculously unfit, alien, often stupid people complicate or ruin their lives or loot or damage the country and stain its honor.

And in polite company (for the coastal and urban people) - smile and say little or nothing. In Mandelstham's "Stalin Epigram" there is an appropriate line - "we live, not feeling the country beneath us, our words cannot be heard ten paces away".

Those familiar with the oppression of totalitarian systems (esp. in modern societies) should recognize traces of this humiliation. Our vast, vast, vast lessers now (increasingly) rule over us - and there's nothing you can do.

Forget the "LIV" and "FSA" voters. Remember the "educated" part of the 52%.

My favorite/most demoralizing example, my sister and her husband. Goo-goo bleeding heart libs who've lived their entire lives in beautiful coastal areas (they actually were going on and on about "Selma" recently ..... I pretended to care or agree, sort of, but could barely manage the poker face when they cretinously opined that Hispanic domestics waiting at bus stops were the new oppressed, as blacks at Selma ...... this is their level of life experience and cluelessness).

At gunpoint they'd never vote for anyone but whatever face the party of abortion and teacher's unions puts up, at any level. Oh - they're active, devout Catholics. Oh - and at least she is pretty alienated from teacher's unions based on (ta dah!) actual parental experience with her two kids. So, naturally - it's part of abortion/party of teacher's unions, all the way baby.

Not an iota of tension or introspection or anything. Yet of course they can recite the idiotic "news" of the day as mangled by NPR or some MSM outlet (and make sneering remarks - still, FFS! - about Palin).

These people, not the LIV/FSA, have doomed us.

I didn't fall out in church, as folks sometimes do. The questions I had didn't magically disappear. The skeptical bent of my mind didn't suddenly vanish. Whachu talkin' about Willis?

C of C celebrates Easter with the rest of the Christian world (some specific congregations celebrate Orthodox Easter), and what we say about Christmas is on par with the rest of the Christian world as well- we don't have a specific date on which Jesus was born, and we choose to celebrate it on December 25.

Again, there are specific congregations and specific members of the church who do not celebrate Christmas, but they do so from personal conviction, not from any Church of Christ specific teaching.

@214. Depends on what form of Christianity is being taught. The weak form of the emergent church really demands little at all. The standard, orthodoxform properly taught (protestant or catholic) actually asks a lot, but that's another thing altogether.

You are transformed by the gift of Christ to walk in the good works that He's set out for you to do, and if you love God you keep His commandments and at the end of your life you are saved but your work is evaluated and that does impact how you experience salvation in the next life. Those who escape as one who escapes a fire have a different experience from those whose work is pure gold. That's a world of difference fromtheget out of hell free card that bad churches teach. It's also a lot harder than what bad churches teach, which also drives people away. "This is a hard thing to hear".

It was also well documented that Wight welcomed Black Muslim members into his church who were not expected to convert but simply to learn about his revolutionary theology.

308 People who are Christians when asked about what sin is would not say "It's being out of alignment with my values " Even liberal Christians would probably not say that. What's about being out of alignment God's values as expressed in the Ten Commanmdents and about not l;ovine God with your whole heart. mind. soul and strength and neighbor as one self. He has the "neighbor" part down (at least he understands it intellectually, I think) but if he has a faith it appears there is noting unique about Christianity. He spends a lot of time about values all religions share. It is find to find commonality but there are major differences between major Religions. We show each of them no respect if we don't acknowledge that or try to homogenize them. Obama says he talks to God all day but he doesn't pray. I think what Obama does is talk to the god (g) within himself which is not the same thing as what Paul refers to as "Christ in us, our hope of Glory." I read through that interesting article on Obama's faith quickly but I see nothing about the unique and atoning sacrifice of Jesus Christ or his literal resurrection and the need to place out entire faith in him.

For the record, the UCC is for the most part a very liberal denomination although it is a congregational system so individuals churches may be more conservative. Rev Wrights's church was not.

Finally, these things stand out for me. I know a lot of liberal Christian-pastors and laypeople, but none of them would refer to "bitter Bible clingers" They might have a problem with some stands of evangelical Christians but they would refer to them as "Conservative Christians" "Bitter Bible clingers" is prejoartive. The others two things are his saying to Stepanopolos "My Muslim faith". Someone doesn't make "mistake" like that. Also, his comments about "The Future does not belong to those that slander the Prophet of Islam." I don't know any practicing Christians who consider Mohamnmed a prophet. They might have read the Koran and some of the Hadith and think Mohammed had some valuable stuff to say before he went completely off the rails because Jews and Christians didn't accept his revelation, but no, they would not consider him a prophet.

@316, nope, though as Lewis said, it's hard to honestly believe it even if you confine yourself to the Synoptic Gospels and leave John right out. Some of the stuff Jesus said was frankly bizarre.
"Hey, thatcode you people struggle with? I'm gonna make it harder on you to follow it and sometime later say 'come to Me all you who are weary and heavy laden and I will give you rest' and then also say 'deny yourself, take up your cross, and follow Me.'"
Very little of what Jesus says we should dois even remotelypossible until really the post-crucifixion, and then it just takes it from impossible to doable though not easy.
TLR; if you leave out the cross and atonement and the resurrection, then all you can reasonably conclude about Jesus is that he wasan angry, crazy manand not even close to being a "good teacher".

But, just like he couldn't admit he is Michelle's sham gay husband who supports homosexual marriage because it would turn off the brothers, he can't admit he joined Jeremiah Wright's racist mega-church because Jeremiah Wright told him he had to as a black south-side politician.

The best way to understand Obama is to watch the documentary on Jimi Hendrix. Jimi hung out exclusively with white people. Every now and then he would run into a black person and ask "what are the brothers saying about me?" Jimi was consumed with the fear that he wasn't "black" enough.

That's Obama. He stopped hanging out with the Pakistanis. He stopped seeing himself as white. He joined the Black Liberation Theology church. He embraced his father's African/Muslim heritage and had Bill Aires write two autobiographies for him.

Give the man his due; he may be a fraud, but he believes every word of it.
