"What is it with jihadis and Toyota?"
The reason they have all those Toyotas is that Obama bought a huge fleet of Toyotas for the use of the "moderate Syrian opposition". Half the "moderate opposition" immediately defected to the Islamic State; the other half were murdered by the Islamists, who took their stuff, including all the nice new trucks paid for by Uncle Sugar. See, here's what's so maddening about that though.
They're a bunch of idiots with guns. The only thing they have going for them is their complete disregard for human life. If we wanted to crush them, we could crush them, completely, in about a month. By that I mean return all of their captured land to the rightful owners and kill so many of their goons that the survivors are afraid to come out of their bedrooms. We could stomp them. Destroy their caliphate. Hang their leader. Done. But we won't. So they will grow. And one day they won't be such a joke. Posted by: Lauren at February 21, 2015 06:53 PM (MYCIw) 34

We joke but they're rolling over the U.S. trained Iraqi forces and
holding their own against the Peshmerga. These videos may be funny but don't under estimate the power of fanatics doing Allah's will. The Kurds usually win when they have adequate weapons. If it was up to me I'd take all those MRAPs back from Sheriff Andy of Mayberry and ship them to the Kurds. The Iraqi forces have no leadership. NONE. Their commanders beat feet after telling their men to attack. A few competent NCOs and junior officers and they could wipe the floor with ISIS. Think of the Tom Hanks character in Saving Private Ryan, just a school teacher from Altoona, but he LED his men into combat. Such men do not exist in the Iraqi armed forces. Buckeye, I think I read something quite a while ago on the Russian forces. Their NCO's were pretty decent, but the lower ranks were poorly trained. Most of the officer corps were politically connected and every unit, I believe, down to the company level was under the nominal command of the political officer. It made initiative in combat unwieldy and ineffective. The commissar could shoot you on the spot for perceived cowardice. I don't know how true that is.

Dinner with Hillary....
The wine would get to us quickly. She girlishly laugh at my jokes, flipping back her hair then caressing my arm. We'd lean into each other. "I disagree with you and everything you stand for!" I'd state matter of factly. "You're a bad boy aren't you?" she teases. "I'm not used to anyone telling me 'no' - in any situation." She grabs my hand and pulls me from the seat "You need to be disciplined!" She brings me into a black cloakroom. I'm pushed to the floor. Her slight body falls on top of me. Her hands claw at my chest as she begins to remove my 'busty female superhero shirt of female oppression.' (This has been a '50 shades of Hillary' moment. These .... exceptional soldiers remind me of the Palestinian National Authority soldiers. They were always putting out press-releases where they jumped through flaming hoops. This was supposed to impress the Israelis and other Arabs somehow. Posted by: boulder terlit hobo at February 21, 2015 06:53 PM (AVEe1) Moshe Dayan didn't have much respect for Arab prowess on the battlefield, and he didn't think the IDF was as world-class as many others thought it. One anecdote, most likely apocryphal, had a journalist giving a long rambling speech about the skill of the IDF, only to have Dayan disagree by saying "but we're fighting Arabs". When pressed multiple times to give some compliment to the IDF he kept responding "but we're fighting Arabs". Posted by: IllTemperedCur at February 21, 2015 08:06 PM (VB0Qs) 235

The Viet Nam war was winnable, but for the ROE's slapped on by the Democratically controlled Congress. We would suffer significant casualties taking a piece of ground, then give it up, and have to go in again at a later time and suffer more casualties. And we couldn't pursue the bastards into Cambodia and kill them there and they knew it. That's why the Ho Chi Minh supply trail was on the Cambodian side. When we did go after it, Congress howled with indignation.

Its war for Christ sakes! People die in war, its a sad fact but a fact none the less. To defeat an enemy you MUST break his will to fight by destroying anything and everything he needs to carry on the fight, even killing his family and relatives. We didn't give a shit about the Germans and Italians and Japanese people we bombed in WWII, wtf went wrong? You cant beat a people without deaths, that's what makes war so terrible, you must make the enemy pay such a terrible price that they give up, they say we quit. You cant do it by being nice and throwing flowers at him. This pc war bullshit we have today is why wars drag on and on and on. War is not meant to be nice.

Robert E. Lee once said, "It's good that war is so terrible lest we become too fond of it." The politically correct amongst us believe that we shouldn't make war so terrible, it would just hurt the other side's feelings. If you do not defeat the enemy, you yourself will be defeated. You must, by necessity, crush your enemy, destroy his ability to make war, and bend them to your will. Anything short of that, and you lose.

Patton was prescient. He knew we would have to fight the Soviets sooner or later. What is scary interesting is that we could have armed all of the German POW's and gone on the offensive. Many of them would have jumped at the chance. The Soviets didn't test their first bomb until 1947 courtesy of the Soviet spies at Los Alamos. But for them it would have been much later. Did you know that in Britain, unions were against
fighting the Nazis because they had signed a non aggression pact with the Soviet Union. Once Hitler started Barbarossa, the unions came around. They were more concerned about the solidarity of the working class than the survival of their country. Posted by: Old Blue at February 21, 2015 08:43 PM (AxABj) It was true here, too. American Reds followed the Party line religiously, or got out of the Party. They were virulently anti-Nazi, and pro-intervention, then became virulently non-intervention (Nazis? Who?) after the Ribbentrop-Molotov Pact, then became were virulently anti-Nazi, and pro-intervention after Barbarossa. Hollywood was among the worst; see Radosh's "Red Star Over Hollywood." BTH, what many seem to forget, or never knew, was that there were many people in the US and the UK who admired what Hitler had done with Germany right up until he invaded Poland. Munich might have unnerved them a little, but the pact with the Soviet Union delighted many. They figured that there would be no war. And regardless, the sentiment in the US at that time was overwhelmingly isolationist.

You are correct that AFTER the war started he did help the cause. BEFORE the war started he went to Berlin and used his status to help Hitler. If I am not mistaken, he attended the Nazi rally in Madison Sq Gardens. He was confused and an isolationist. I suspect that the fact that he was a great and brave pilot did not mean he was a rocket scientist. If my memory serves me correctly, Ole Joe sent Jack over to Berlin to do some suck up with Hitler. Lindbergh wasn't so much an isolationist as he was an oppositionist to getting involved because the U.S. Military was woefully behind Germany and his regrettable belief that those pushing for involvement were doing it more Jewish interests the U.S. interests.Something he vocally apologized for later. But he wasn't wrong about the U.S. being prepared.
The reason he didn't take the commission Roosevelt offered was because he didn't think he deserved it, that he let his country down. Let's see that kind of honestly from a public figure today.
