The Kurds usually win when they have adequate weapons. If it was up to me I'd take all those MRAPs back from Sheriff Andy of Mayberry and ship them to the Kurds.
The Iraqi forces have no leadership. NONE. Their commanders beat feet after telling their men to attack. A few competent NCOs and junior officers and they could wipe the floor with ISIS. Think of the Tom Hanks character in Saving Private Ryan, just a school teacher from Altoona, but he LED his men into combat. Such men do not exist in the Iraqi armed forces.

Not sure about now,but in the 90's the conscripts were being maimed, bruatialized and killed over hazing and poor training. The officers corp became a joke and read one story where NCO's were pimping out recruits.
To be sure there are some solid units in the russian army,but the over all condition is poor (despite the power projection Putin is currently doing) and the demographic trend is spiralling.

How do you tell the difference between an innocent shopkeeper and an insurgent until he pops and and shoots at you, or detonates an IED? Mac wanted to use nukes on the Chinese. Truman was afraid of the Russians going all bat shit crazy in Europe when we wouldn't have been ready for that kind of assault. We reduced our forces after WWII, but the Soviets didn't and the German army wouldn't have been ready for years. But we had more nukes. In retrospect, it may have been worth the gamble.

Patton was prescient. He knew we would have to fight the Soviets sooner or later. What is scary interesting is that we could have armed all of the German POW's and gone on the offensive. Many of them would have jumped at the chance. The Soviets didn't test their first bomb until 1947 courtesy of the Soviet spies at Los Alamos. But for them it would have been much later. The communist spy apparatus was much better than the West's. And they say McCarthy was all paranoid and stuff.

He won re-election with 64% of the vote in the purplest of purple states, winning 86 of 88 counties. He WOULD win if nominated. And a Republican congress can keep a rein on him. He would not go the Obama route of rule by fiat.
This cultural war will not be won in a single election or presidency, so start with the low hanging fruit. Walker would be preferable, but the media is going to crucify him on the college degree issue. It wil be Palin, pt. 2.

It was true here, too. American Reds followed the Party line religiously, or got out of the Party. They were virulently anti-Nazi, and pro-intervention, then became virulently non-intervention (Nazis? Who?) after the Ribbentrop-Molotov Pact, then became were virulently anti-Nazi, and pro-intervention after Barbarossa. Hollywood was among the worst; see Radosh's "Red Star Over Hollywood."

You are correct that AFTER the war started he did help the cause. BEFORE the war started he went to Berlin and used his status to help Hitler. If I am not mistaken, he attended the Nazi rally in Madison Sq Gardens.
He was confused and an isolationist. I suspect that the fact that he was a great and brave pilot did not mean he was a rocket scientist.
If my memory serves me correctly, Ole Joe sent Jack over to Berlin to do some suck up with Hitler.
Should Lindy get a pass? I guess after the fact yes.

Astute observation. From what I read, young Spartan men had a hard time adjusting to being married with a woman after living in the barracks for so long. There is a resaon the phrase "spartan living" is part of our vocabulary.
