3 Please note this story is based on leaks from people claiming to have inside infomration.

Now that I have put up fair notice, if this is indeed true no sane person will ever fly an Indonisian registered airline ever again. It seems according to these sources that the flight crew of the crashed AirAsia flight had been dealing with multiple faults in the systems designed to keep the A320 in safe flight regiemes. So instead of doing something smart like returning to the airport, they pulled power to the systems giving faults. Just before the plane apparently entered that steep climb before crashing.

Back in 2007 an Adam Air 737 Flt 754 was lost under unusual circumstances in Indonesian airspace. In bad weather and a flight crew battling navigation instruments that were not functioning properly. Then a host of human errors due to lack of training compounded the problem leading to the crash.

In 2007 Indonesia was losing a commercial airliner every 12 to 18 months. It seems Indonesia has not learned any lessons.

23 Morning, 'rons and 'ronettes.

Sorry I haven't been posting for a while. I've had a bad ear infection, which now seems to have settled into a permanently-clogged feeling in both ears. It's annoying and has more or less killed my ability to concentrate for very long (you can imagine what this does to my already low performance at work). So I haven't had the ability or desire to sit down, pore through books and come up with an interesting story each day. Again, I apologize; I hope I'll be up to speed soon.

That being said, here's the weekly Ziegfeld Girl, Myrna Darby:

http://goo.gl/2FJCGR

http://goo.gl/BEXDcH

http://goo.gl/gSdgXq

A Pittsburgh native, Darby appeared in seven Ziegfeld shows: No Foolin', Rio Rita, the Follies of 1925 and 1927, Rosalie, Three Musketeers and Whoopee. During the run of Whoopee, she fell sick with what was described as an "inflammation of the heart" and died at the age of 21. Although she was reported to be one of the highest-paid showgirls in New York, she left an estate of only $750, which would hardly be enough for a feather off one of her costumes. She was one of the most-photographed of the Ziegfeld girls in the 1920s, considered by photog Alfred Cheney Johnston (who took the pictures above) to be "strikingly photogenic."

Today is also the anniversary of the 1926 death of silent actress Barbara LaMarr, the limpid beauty nicknamed "The Girl Too Beautiful To Live:"

http://goo.gl/nGbStx

Tuberculosis - that plague of the 19th and early 20th centuries - carried her off, though her nights of parties and drug use (she kept a silver chalice filled with cocaine on her grand piano) didn't help.

And today is the birthday of actress Greta Nissen, seen here in 1928s Fazil:

http://goo.gl/cpHXtp

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend.

I took to leaving my right ear exposed anyway...

I say that as a more "don't try this at home kids" cautionary tale but since I had already blown out the middle hearing in that ear I was willing to continue risk with it.

Weird think is even with the middle gone I was sensitive enough in hearing I still test near normal on range....but there's about three parts of the spectrum I just don't hear from the right side anymore.

Yeh, the ones with the cord were fantastic on the ship. Like you said, you could just let the cord keep them around the neck when you didn't actually have them in your ears. No more fishing in your pocket to put them back in your ears.

Everey time we got inspected, I would staple a packet inside each Inspectors brief package for the inbrief.

I got more compliments on that little action then any comments about the mandatory fruit and donut trays that the Wardroom would send in.

I've tried it. I also went to the doctor's office to have my ears syringed, where I was told the ear canals were clean as a whistle. So now I'm down to thinking it's some sort of sinus infection. If I can't get a handle on it soon, I'm going to have to see an ENT physician.

I can hear, so that's not a problem. It just feels as though my ears are stopped up with cotton. Pinching the nose and blowing to "pop" the ears only works for a second.

now I personally believe he is simply a less rabid Yector and if day a he needs to be a serbian cuckold and day B a hyper Catholic cliche and Day C an aggrieved Hispanic well "anything goes"....

By way of curiosity did youw atch the Air Crash Investigations ep I linked a few days ago?

JFK jr was a VFR guy going knowingly into IFR how'd that work out?

An IFR pilot who is convinced he is smarter than his instrumentation and needs to "override the damn alarm" is a VFR pilot....

you either trust your machine or you don't and if you don't you are relying on a set of equipment God didn't evolve for flight....

You know I think you and I could have a grand old time doing a 'ron/ette riff on Youtubes of Air Crash Investigations....

though I fear the JFK jr ep was almost a shark jump.

Say what you want about Palin, if she were prexy the past 6 years I strongly doubt the country would be in the shape it's in now.

Aside from that, we now have a number of candidates the left can go after - Jindal, Haley, Cruz, Rubio, Carson so the racism from the Party of Tolerance (T M) will be at least spread out, if not on display for all to see.

Looking forward to the usual antics:

And the rest. MPPP, glad to see you around, hope your ear gets better. What works for me is a Percocet swallowed with a bourbon double. It doesn't actually do anything for the ear but then you don't care about it.

Maybe not worse story, but commercial planes are allowed to fly over Cuba -- in a very narrow corridor. Stray outside that corridor, get shot down. The airlines have to pay a fee, but it's probably cheaper then detouring around.

Flying back to Philly from Jamaica -- directly over Cuba -- jet engine flames out and plane drops a couple thousand feet in half a minute and is all over the place. I was shaking my fist at Fidel thinking the sob shot out the engine. No problem the pilot told us after a couple minutes.

180 The pax compartment above the main wing spar in a C-5 is not something to write home about. Seats facing the tail. No in flight movie. They better hope at least one box lunch is provided - so so sandwiches, an apple or orange, can of soda, napkin, and packets of mayo and mustard.

One time did that to Germany and back. With stops in the UK and Dover. Amazingly the C-5s did not break down stranding us somewhere as is usual with the C-5. Another time we landed at Bangor in a C-17 and when they tried to start the plane up, the MFDs stayed black. So spent a night in Bangor while a replacement plane with spare parts flew in.

Military air is always fun. Space A is even more military fun. There was a family at Elmendorf trying Space A. Try spending a week in MAC terminal waiting for a plane to have room. That was their experience.

Reagan came from nowhere and almost beat Ford, then went on to beat Bush and wound up with 2 landslides and a legacy as the greatest president of the past 50-60 years if not this century.

Part of Walker's appeal to me is that he's been very thoroughly vetted. If they didn't find anything in those three highly funded state fights, they're not likely to find anything else.

As for a college degree, those without one don't care, and those with one realize how basically worthless they are.

222 "If Walker gets in and polls well, what will the media do to him?"

Unsolicited advice: Walker needs a MFM war room. He needs files on every "journalist" who follows his campaign or asks questions at press briefings. He needs to know - and not be afraid to jam it down their rotten throats! - that Jimmy Blowdry who asks "do you think the country can feel secure with someone who didn't go to college?" is a high school dropout who never got his GCE. He needs to know that Susie Bubblehead and her "war on women" caterwauling made it to her position by blowing every man in the studio from the janitor to the CEO.

When asked obviously biased questions, he should reply with the number of the DNC. And no other answer. When the MFMs ask why, he should simply point out that, as they are unpaid agenda mongers for the Dems, he's simply cutting out the middleman and giving them carte blanche to get the answers they're looking for from the source.

Absolutely no MFM / DNC talking head to monitor debates. Make them Lincoln-Douglas style, each candidate asking the other questions, with no "impartial" moderator there to prop up the Dem.

He needs a Spiro Agnew / Newt Gingrich type for VP who will call out the press at every opportunity.

Run against the MFM - really call them out as the liars they are and don't pretend they're good people at heart - and you'll have the base in your pocket.

The future of tv -- unless we get a la carte pricing -- is Internet based. Between Hulu and Netflix -- and $20/month Dish network soon -- there is like 2,000 lifetimes of content available.

I have a couple cheap Fire Sticks and an Apple tv and cut the cable, too. It seems like every show ends up on the net.

Yup...the ACI was very overt in treating "John John" as something "more than a pilot."

It was in its way the same game Ogabe is playing with Bergdahl...

Is there NOT ANY ALIBI I CAN SUMMON THAT WILL EXCULPATE HIM?

Well that's not your job guy...

your job is to establish that design or PM of the aircraft was not at fault, that weather or some other hazard was not the cause and then if the answer is none of that blame the pilot and move on sans evidence by black box of what was going on....

What was not called for was a deep psychological profile of a guy you never met beyond "was he overtly mentally impaired from being qualified to fly the plane"...

I am REALLY tired of the multi-tiered professional ethics of the civil service and elected class...

had JFK jr been "Sven J Olafson" we'd have not wasted millions finding me in the first place...

they'd have looked at my rating, my departure time and said "VFR pilot knowingly flew into IFR conditions" and been done with it...

had they by some miracle found my plane in the normal 72 hours they'd have searched tops they'd have established "
no mechanical or avionics reason for the crash...VFR pilot knowingly flew into IFR conditions" after establishing the mechanical soundness

To wit....if Bowe Bergdahl had deserted to aid Christian militias in staving off the Tollybon giggles would be throwing the book at him if he'd been assed to get him back at all...

this is "not my woobie"

232 My first patient is a real asshole and I am expecting a fight. So if you read of a NJ Dentist getting into trouble, you will know who it is.

Meh.

Life's too short to deal with assholes on an ongoing basis.

Politely show them the door.

235 Wonder if that Audi "green police " commercial will pop up again. I remember chuckling at it and wondering how long it would be til it became reality. And now theyre going to inspect your trash in Seattle I think. Wonder how they determine if more than 10% of what they glance at in your barrelnismfood waste or if they are really going to go through it all?

237 I can hear, so that's not a problem. It just feels as though my ears are stopped up with cotton. Pinching the nose and blowin----

I had a sinus infection about 7-8 mths ago where i ended up in a similar condition

no amt of decongestants seems to resolve it, what worked for em (spouses friend suggestion) nasal spraythree big squirts three times a day by the second morning i didnt feel as if i were swimming underwater.

i thing though , i do not believe i had an ear infection at all No pain just the hearing underwater experience.
