Though if it's obvious the Communists and Democrats are on the same side, I question why the media is always denying this.The chairman of the National Committee of the Communist Party USA has penned a 2,023-word manifesto making the critical point that American Communists are eager to work with the Democratic Party to advance the modern communist agenda and achieve communist goals. Communist Party chairman John Bachtell published his essay last week at People’s World, a "daily news website of, for and by the 99% and the direct descendant of the Daily Worker." "[L]abor and other key social forces are not about to leave the Democratic Party anytime soon," Bachtell promised. "They still see Democrats as the most realistic electoral vehicle" to fight against perceived class enemies. Bachtell, 58, is playing the long political game and he has a strategy, he said. "First, we are part of building the broadest anti-ultra right alliance possible, uniting the widest array of class (including a section of monopoly), social and democratic forces. This necessarily means working with the Democratic Party," the communist leader explained. ... The rest of Bachtell’s declaration is mostly a somewhat modernized version of the same, garden-variety communist drivel communists have been spouting since roughly 1840.I thought the same thing about the State of the Union.

This topic brought this book to mind for both of you, for different reasons. It's a good read on the kind of nihilism I'm sure Zombie's seen in the Bay Area (where I believe the author was from), but from an Orthodox Christian, rather than secular perspective. Then you have what the Federal reserve is doing, it basically sells out Main Street for Wall Street with endless printing/QE.

Russian-style bolshevik communism was international socialism;
German style totalitarianism was national socialism. (Hence the name "National Socialism," shortened to Na-Zi.)
Really, that's the only difference.
The Soviets wanted socialism to take ovet the whole world.
The Nazis wanted socialism for them and their kind.

I think there is a big difference between corporatism and the government ownership of most businesses and farms.
There is a big difference between being pro-religious and being anti-religious.
Plus there is a major distinction on what each views as its main purpose regarding the nation. Fascists seek to restore (in their view) the national greatness while communists want to replace the past with a new glorious future. The Nazis were a bizarre mix of these two but are rather unique fascists in that regard.
Most fascists governments have also tended to mind their own damn business (Germany, Italy, and Japan if you consider japan to have been fascists were big exceptions) while communists have a tendency to want to liberate their neighbors.
The Soviet Union was committed through most of its history to the overthrow of capitalist and fascist governments.

I would agree that Russia became more nationalist after the ascension of Stalin but their support of Communist revolution abroad continued.
There is not a clear separation between communism and fascism or capitalist welfare states for that matter.
As you mention China that may be the best example of the murkiness. In the 30's Stalin supported the Chinese Nationalist government (which could arguably be termed fascist) and not the Communists with major military supplies to provide a counter to Japan - then switched to the Communists when the threat from Japan was minimal. Followed later by a China-Russia border war.

I would only take issue with the comment on Nazi opposition to Christianity and a plan to replace it with paganism.
This was the meme of much false wartime propaganda. The Nazi leadership was generally not Christian but neither was it pagan.
Hitler apparently though little of the paganism being pushed by Himmler and certain bureaus of the SS. Not did he seem to think much of Christianity. However, the regime did reach understandings with the Catholic and Lutheran Churches. The religion which the Nazis tried to introduce was' Positive Chritianity' - not paganism.
Unique among fascists the Nazis did attempt to include the churches within the structure of Coporatism (going beyond economism) utilizing the National Reich Church which like much else was a failure.
