Had some Mexico-origin rattan matting once. Turned out the hollow part was full of little weevil eggs. They ate up all the other matting, too.
Oddly, the "true" rattan hamper I had was immune to them. It was from India. Very thorough cleaning ensued. Put me right off natural-fiber furniture, it did. And that's why we have Art Class every single day. Between the romantics and the neo-classicists, you can learn all the survival skills of gleaning and quarrying. Augean Stables special edition: I 'inherited' a large commercial garage with apt above. Terrific building but the 12-foot first story had never been dusted in any way shape or form, and it had a coal furnace in it. At some point in its history there had been an "incident." There were shoals of coal ash dust on top of the beams.
So after vacuuming what I could I rented a big compressor, set up a line of cheap box fans in the door opening, and lowered the garage door right to their tops. Then, went to work, with dust mask and Jim Clark bandana in place. Onlookers said it didn't look so much like a fire as an explosion. It took the rest of the summer to get the ash stains out of the concrete outside. I think I managed to salvage one of the fans. So? Power-dusting only works if you keep right after it. Sweeping is easier. Posted by: Stringer Davis at January 29, 2015 11:05 AM (xq1UY) 122

Shipping containers as housing are a duel use technology. Dig a hole in the ground and bury'm; turns them into bunkers for defense. You will need to protect the entrance and ventilation openings, however. It's a death trap. They will cave in with the weight of the dirt. Better to use a huge culvert or Quonset hut and bury it. My brother has an LP Gas tankless heater in a closet of his cabin. Doesn't take much room at all. Its probably 2'tall x 2'wide by about 1' deep if I remember correctly. My concern with an exterior installation would be weather proofing it. I'm not sure how much air/oxygen those units need for use. Just because someone invokes my faith or mentions Jesus in a quote, does not mean that he/she speaks for me or automatically gets my vote. Wagner is sharp, I can see her rising within the Party ranks. Her background is what it needs to be, and she was ready when Rapin' Akin gave up his seat to have his little vanity run at the Senate. Let me tell you about my day as a married +3 Caucasian, middle class man living in Boston.
At 6 am my alarm goes off at which point I get up, rape my wife on the cheek and sneak out of the bedroom. I then proceed to wake up those kids who are old enough to go to school by using gender specific taglines such as "wake up son" and "rise and shine sweetheart". Naturally I do this with an aura of patriarchal authority. I usher the children, with a socio-economic 'white male slave driver' attitude to the kitchen where I rape them breakfast in the form of muesli and eggs/sausages. After they have ingested their phallic foods and aborted chicken fetuses I give them their patriarchy approved lunches and send them to the rape-mobile, a 2012 Ford Explorer. On the way to school I expand my privilege all over the highway in my huge, penis elongating man-car while stare-raping several female drivers. Naturally I do this while ignoring my white male privilege. We finally arrive at school where I rape my children on their cheeks, much like I did with my wife (patriarchal behavioral training), and send them off to learn how to better spread the patriarchy in my son's case and submit to it in my daughter's case. Afterwards I road-rape my way to work at a small but well-to-do law firm where I spend the rest of my day mind raping, stare raping, rape raping, having lunch (while stare raping) and having meetings. After a hard day's rape work I repeat the whole raping process back to school and finally home where my loving wife who is brainwashed by the patriarchy is awaiting our return with warm food. Gotta disagree. You father kids with a woman to whom you can never be a fully committed husband. Your whole life is a lie and drag some complete innocents into it. You teach your kids that marriage us a sham, meaningless thing and put them into a position of having to accept that or else see their own existence as meaningless.
Loveless sex in a marriage is a terrible thing. Using a woman that way because you're a dishonest coward is a terrible thing. Posted by: Y-not on the phone at January 29, 2015 12:24 PM (9BRsg) 422

I was once suddenly and coldly dumped by this chick.
8 years later she came out as ghey and "married" a chick. I guess that might explain the sudden, cold dumping from years earlier. Must have been "questioning" even then. But she sure didn't seem at all ghey when I was with her. Pretty, feminine and most definitely enjoyed sex with the menfolk. Then again, I heard she "went ghey" after a later boyfriend cheated on her. Posted by: Citizen X at January 29, 2015 12:36 PM (7ObY1) 462

My BF makes homemade cannoli. Shells, filling, sauce--everything. He made a batch and took it to work and all the women giggled and asked if he was married. He came home and told me they all loved putting his cannoli in their mouths. True story.

From the Hemmingway article:
"I wish she had fulfilled her term as governor instead of cashing checks on the lecture circuit making cornpone jokes and shallow observations." This is the kind of shit I expect from people so concerned with getting their "I'm in the elite writer's club" ticket punched that they can claim they "defended" Palin while calling her a bumkin snowbilly. They're all convinced that anyone who places character near the top of the list of qualifications for politicians is a "cult" member who just can't see the nuances they can. Read Cooke. He says it's BS if you're going to roll your eyes at people who get wet over Obama because "he cares about people like me" and then get all ga-ga about some Huckster just because he talks about his guns and pickup truck.
In this sense, he's absolutely right about Huck supporters. The man is a socialist, but all is forgiven because he's a former Baptist preacher. Posted by: Hurricane LaFawnduh at January 29, 2015 12:43 PM (HBAcW) 490

---- If you think that Cooke and Hemmingway are elitists, you haven't read much of their stuff. They are calling for a little discernment. Yes, integrity is the first qualification for public office, but when Palin and Huckabee pander like this, I feel like I am getting played. Kinda like when Mitch promised that a Republican Congress would oppose Obama. Posted by: Hurricane LaFawnduh at January 29, 2015 12:50 PM (HBAcW) 497
