Reporter: Saudi King Abdullah "Couldn't Stand" Obama

Sounds like my kind of guy.

NBC reporter Richard Engle shot down the various claims emanating from both DC and Riyadh that the two men were close friends:

"One of the big ironies here is that President Obama, in his statement, said how close he was to King Abdullah... King Abdullah did not like President Obama. In fact, a lot of people I know that are quite close to the late King Abdullah said that the king could not stand President Obama. This close personal bond between the president and the late Saudi leader, I think, is people being polite at a time of a national funeral."

Of course, our Cool Guy President also decided to upset India with his Nicorette-chewing, while in audience with India's PM.

"In an ungainly sight, cameras caught US President Brack Obama chewing gum during the Republic Day parade on Monday. In the picture captured by cameras and posted on Twitter by some users, Obama was spotted removing his chewing gum while PM Modi was seen trying to explain something to the US president," reports the Times of India.

10 Ace,

You're making the same mistake most analysts make.

You assume Obama;s actions are meant to benefit the US. And when he does something that hurts America, you assumed he has failed.

Your assumptions are incorrect. Obama is smart and he's getting everything he wants implemented, both domestically and foreign policy. All his supposed failures, are victories, when you look at it through the appropriate socialist/communist/anti-American lens.

Its part of the Arab culture to be very very racist vs Blacks...

But there's no one on the White House staff, not one person, who thinks chewing gum is bad form during high-level diplomatic meetings and gets a patch instead of the gum?

No one who says an iPod with his speeches is a classless gift? No one who checks the region on DVD's given to a Prime Minister on a different continent?

Why are the democrats unwilling to admit that our president is ridiculously, incredibly tacky? Isometimeswonder if they just refuse to notice or if they are so much into the hero worship that they think even gum chewing in a formal situation is cool. He has no deftness for dealing with foreign dignitaries, and if he has a protocol office he ignores them unless they tell him to spend a lot of money on a fancy white house dinner.

Also, they say it's nicorette but am I the only one who thinks he's probably just chewing regular gum to get rid of his cigarette breath?

61 I left out all the obvious, and jaw-dropping things like petty, screaming psych issues (abandonment, egotism, etc.), but others have noted those.

And Lauren it's much worse than no opposition party, though that is important and correct. There are no institutions, no guard rails, any more. SCOTUS and O-care, the perfect example. Not only ridiculous "substance" in their ruling, but the backdrop was an unprecedented, degrading, Third World bit of mau-mau-ing of the court by the president himself. Still stunned when I think about it. Not just the historically bad SOTU comment, but public mau-mau-ing leading up to Roberts' beclownment.

Yes, he's ridiculously unfit, and a disaster (as anyone with a clue could tell from the outset). But the whole landscape is a disaster. Otherwise you'd never have heard of him.

I recently saw a 100+ page Request for Proposals for a large contract, and it was full of nonsense that added nothing to the project where the contractor had to document Women's Empowerment and LGBT goals. I've mentioned this before (so apologies for the repeat): heard via the mother of a longtime Hillary aide that Hillary brought over 70 people with her to the State Dept. That is unprecedented. Usually, the Sec of State may bring a few aides, but most State employees remain in place from one administration to the next. And apparently a lot of these Hillary peeps stayed on after she left, now working for Kerry.

While the longtime State employees are liberals, they're at least experienced in foreign policy, unlike Hillary's entourage who were and have always been about Hillary! I'm guessing they're at least part of the reason we're getting blunders like sending James Taylor to France (because *someone* should have noted what a stupid idea it was before it got past the initial brainstorming meeting).

Is this normal? This glib use of the word "historic" by the media before the fact?

I find it strange not just that they're tacking on an emphatic historic to a winter snowstorm, but how they're already writing history before the first snowflake has reached the ground.

--

History used to be written by the victors. Now, it is written by those who create the narrative. If you don't like how the story unfolds, just pretend it didn't happen.

181 Is this normal? This glib use of the word "historic" by the media before the fact?

No, it's not normal (well, it may be "the new normal.")

The point is that weather has been disturbingly (to them) "normal" for years. The Warmists insist that weather will become more and more "disruptive" as we "continue to destroy the climate."

But that hasn't been borne out (just like the rest of their predictions). So any time something happens they have to dial it up to 11.

I have it on very good authority that his grades in the first two years at Harvard Law were actually very good. That proves nothing except that he can take law school exams well; the trick in law school exams is not to answer the question asked, but to spot all the legal issues in the question and argue both sides of them. That skill is of high relevance to being a law school professor, less relevance to being a clerk to a judge, even less relevance to being a lawyer in actual practice, and almost no relevance to anything else in life.

He's incapable of doing anything but destroying everything and everyone around him. That's what malignant narcissists do. It's who they are.

I hate that grade school kind of punishment scale. The guy's a fucktard, just fire him. Of course I'll probably be with him the next time he flips out, so I get to deal with it, not the boss.

Yes, I know they all say that she "surrendered" her license because she wasn't going to use it, but come on. Bill Clinton made sure that he didn't lose his, and he was President of the United States, and there was no way in hell that he was going to voluntarily give it up.

I still believe she got busted dipping into clients money, and instead of destroying his career, the local/state bar just quietly let her firm pay everyone back, she was given a job at the hospital so that she could "repay" the firm, and she surrendered her license so that there would be no paper trail.

One does not surrender a license that is difficult to obtain "just because".

Some of you remember the story of Artur Davis, who represented Alabama's 7th District in Congress as a Democrat for about eight years before deciding the Democrats had gone loopy, stepping out after 2012, and going Republican. (Questions whether this represents changes in Davis or the parties in question left as an exercise to the Horde.)

Welllll...last week he announced he's running for mayor of Montgomery, AL. Which is interesting considering he's been in Virgina for a couple of years, but aside from that, I'm trying to parse the moving parts of this situation.

"And this is an important step that shows how we can work together to elevate our relationship."

The details remained vague, and it was unclear whether the understanding would convince American companies, such as GE and Westinghouse, to invest in India's civilian nuclear development. The companies had pressed India to rewrite its liability law, which Sunday's understanding did not call for, and so they will have to judge whether it is enough to resolve their legal concerns. But the fact that both governments were willing to dispense with a dispute that has frustrated them since 2010 underscored the mutual desire to reinvent the relationship.

Luck has nothing to do with it. He had downfield blocking by the Party. As but one example, notice how Ayers keeps popping up in his life. For no obvious reason, Obama ups stakes and moves to Columbia (despite being, by his own admission, a mediocre student at Occidental) where Ayers was at the same time. They work on the same anti-apartheid movement, living three blocks apart, then both move to Chicago, where they live near each other again, and where Ayers appoints him to the board of the Annenberg Challenge, and where Ayers' wife (terrorist Bernadine Dohrn) introduces Obama to his Party-selected wife to be.

C'mon, that's a helluva lot of coincidences.

Then look at the book contracts. A publishing house OFFERS Obama a contract, and pays him an advance, based on his having been a law student. WTF? Most authors would give their left nut to get a contract.

But he can't deliver a MS, and has to return the advance. Then another publisher offers him a SECOND contract, and he turns out a lyrical masterpiece. It stinks. It stinks as badly as Hillary's one-off coup in the commodities market.

Honestly before deflategate I was thinking this might actually break the streak of increasing ratings on the Superbowl. The teams just lack story/personality. Russell Wilson is competent but bland. Pete Carrol has too much laid back personality. The defense is good but again doesn't really seem to have that much personality.

And then there are the Patriots that basically have the personality of their coach. Unlikable prick.

If the answer you are looking for is "Israel", then probably not.

House of Saud isn't the biggest fan of Israel, but they do see eye to eye on lots of issues, and they have a pretty good back door diplomacy. If Israel wanted to fly over Saudi Arabia tomorrow to take out Iran's nukes, the Sauds would be very very late to scramble their fighters and AA batteries.

The only other enemy would be Christianity, and I could see them agreeing on that.

Sort of related, now that Abdullah is dead, we sure as hell will be seeing cheap oil for the next 5 years since his heir is gonna have to grease a lot of oil ticks palms to keep in power while he is consolidating his power.
