Always fun. Every time I've had mine cleaned I always leave a marker over the opening. Years go by and that marker gets run over, knocked down, moved, and, sometimes completely lost.

But usually by the time I get that 5th or 6th hole dug looking for it I run into it.

Millions of genetically modified mosquitoes could be released in Florida Keys to fight viruses

Never before have insects with modified DNA come so close to being set loose in a residential U.S. neighborhood. British biotech firm Oxitec hopes to win approval to use mosquitos against two extremely painful viral diseases - Dengue and chikungunya....

Starting out with the premise that overly large breast are just not my thing, the stills of this new chick make her face look odd. Like she's either had things done to overcome an overbight or overly big lips or nose, or the pics are being photoshopped.

Either way, she's something other than a natural. Which means Kate wins by the mere fact that God created her, not man.

This store happens to the Home Depot that I frequent. It's interesting insofar as many of the employees I have encountered are a) actually knowledgeable about the products and home repair and b) not the usual inner city high school dropout droog that's too stupid to even get welfare or deal dope.

Allow me to tell you about my HR person:

This individual has been very vocal about the fact that the 5-point veteran preference is asinine and 'unearned' relative to other things, like, say, race or privilege.

She also found out that I had been selected for a new job (within the same agency) and cancelled the billet because she didn't want me to get it.

I can't PROVE she cancelled it because I was selected, but within 24 hours of the selection, my boss (her close friend) told her that I couldn't really be spared from the office I'm in, and my new job billet was cancelled.

Hm.

Interesting article on a Potemkin Detroit housing program and the real estate market there:

Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan set out with the goal of auctioning around 400 abandoned homes by the end of 2014 and met it, with a final tally of 394 on Dec. 31. But seven months into the program, figures show that sales had closed on just 138 properties.

In 2014, there were 10,000 recorded residential purchases in Detroit. Of those, only 462 were bought with a traditional mortgage. The rest were cash purchases. That says something about the value of houses. It also speaks to how difficult it is to qualify for a mortgage in the city.

http://tinyurl.com/pvdeocf

and:

the City Council is expected to take up a resolution to authorize Detroits Planning and Development Department to transfer 30,000 vacant residential properties to the land bank, which would bring its inventory up to more than 70,000 for its various programs.

70,000 at a couple of hundred sold per year. This could take a while.

Once you reach a level where they actually hit balls out there, right field is a valued position. If you can run and throw, you belong in right or center. If you can't run, but have an arm, third base. Of course if you are agile and have a good arm, shortstop is your position.

I played 'em all at various stops along the way. I don't think I'm exaggerating when I say I had a better arm than 75% of major league outfielders.

Here, we disagree. The Left knows damned well that human nature can't be altered. That's why they always assume they'll be in charge when people start getting stood against walls. They KNOW human nature is competitive. They KNOW life is short, brutal and hard.

That's why they're so hell-bent on being in charge of every single aspect of life for all of us. That gives them power, authority and money.

(Which is ironic, isn't it? Those are the three things they say should be shared...)

125 I watched the Bret Baier special about Cuba last night. I shouldn't have because it raised my damn blood pressure. Those Cubans who were part of that prisoner exchange? When they were still emprisoned here, Sen. Pat Leahy arranged for one of them to donate semen so his wife in Cuba could be artifically inseminated. She went to Panama for the procedure.

So Leahy went out of his way to make sure a POS responsible for the death of Americans got to reproduce. (Gee, who paid for that, I wonder?) and the Cuban-Americans who were shot down trying to help those who had escaped Cuba are forgotten and dishonored by this administration.

Oh, and the part about how the guards at Gitmo routinely had and have urine, feces and all kinds of filth thrown at them by the animals they guard. And yet we're awful for spraying some water up their noses to get information and they - the worst of the worst, the most hardened terrorists - are being released.

Well worth reading both the article(it's not long) and the comments.

It's about the progtard's tendency toward non-logic and the undefining of the easily definable so that they can get to do what they want to do.

The whole undefining thing is a bit of a bugaboo of mine as it makes it impossible to have rational arguments and move forward.

Wright explains that as well.

When they question your activity profiles, tell
them that's when you sneak out of illicit gay sex and sue them for
invading your privacy.

a.) You're right. Gay sex and its consequences will be treated differently from other choices, like smoking and drinking and eating french fries.

b.) We're seriously at a point where a phrase like "When they question your activity profiles" doesn't even raise eyebrows.

Well, and smokers.

New Bern is the nearest town, but it's still a ride. 'Inner Banks' is the best description - boating, sailing, fishing, hunting paradise. For cis-heteronormative people of privilege, anyway.

Well, yes.

Except in my case, I'm a mole. I burrow, get small and keep my head down.

This sacrifices my pride, destroys my ego and suffocates my spirit.

It does pay the bills though, and as a new parent, I don't have the luxury of principles.

179 You know, this fall we had a big storm, knocked out power to everyone in area with lots of lines down for the first 24 hours... then they slowly brought the city back on line... cept our neighborhood... took 5 days b/c several poles came down and xformers blew up.

Neighbor behind me and two doors down had a gen set. It ran and ran... all day and night. As myself and my neighbors dealt with no AC... windows open... humid air, luckily only mid 80's daytime but still and 70's at night... the anger grew.

I was talking with a couple of my neighbors on about day four and the animosity towards the guy with the gen set was strong. I fear if the heat had been worse or the disruption lasted longer, I think someone was ready to beat his gen set to death just because it was a constant and noisy reminder that his fridge was running... his lights worked.. So I've re-thought the idea of being the guy who's lights work when others don't... if bad times come... you become loathed, if only just because.

In some article I read years ago it was named one of the top ten places to retire. So I started looking from that epicenter.

Decent climate, gulf stream keeps the relatively short winter short. Good tax situation for retirees, low property taxes.

New Bern is a nice little town, surrounded by a large Black population. Politics are iffy at best. No real hospital. We call that "Down East" in NC.

One other thing, New Bern has no airport to speak of. Wilmington or Raleigh closest. Of course, Flat Rock doesn't either, but it's only 15 miles from Asheville airport.

Any of the horde here live in Portland, Oregon? I've been considering a
move there but am very concerned about the long rainy season and the
never ending moonbat season. Very beautiful part of the country but
those two items put together are giving me serious doubts.

Kind
of sucks living in a country where you want to move to a particular city
but have to take into consideration the local politics.

Posted by: George Orwell de Leon at January 26, 2015 07:50 AM (1BQGO)"

My brother lives there. I have visited a number of times over the years. The last time I was there I saw an enormous snow capped mountain in the distance that I had never seen before. I asked my brother about it and he said it is Mount Hood, a Portland landmark. I had never seen it before because it was completely overcast every other time I had been in Portland at various times of year over a dozen years.

My brother is the other conservative in my family. He used to find the Portland insanity amusing for the first few years but now it seems like the relentless progressive stupid is taking a toll on him.

Portland is the "most lesbian friendly city in the United States". Portland is "where young people go to retire". Historically, Oregon was a sunset state i.e. like sunset towns, it was illegal for blacks to live there or be there after dark.

They also have a tradition of hating Catholics. They used to teach some fiction about Jesuits inciting the Indians to slaughter protestant missionaries in the Oregon public schools. Portland is also the location of the Oregon Catholic Press where they created all that really crappy music that is commonly heard during mass these days.

As with most socialist utopias, jobs are not plentiful in Portland. It is also difficult to own your own business because there are armies of government workers who attempt to justify their own jobs by harassing the local small businesses. This is where foreign born business owners have a real advantage. For one thing, many of them have grown up in corrupt third world socialist countries and have learned at a young age how to deal with officials. They can also play the "Me no talk good Engrish" game until the government workers get frustrated and go away to harass native born business owners.

Lots of brew pubs. Lots of guys wearing skimpy brim hats and ear gauges. Lots of girls with braids and no makeup. Powell's is a really great book store.

I don't think that I could stand to live there but YMMV.

189 121, Outside of Portlandia and downtown Seattle, things get pretty normal. Also, the rain from the Pacific drops on the west side of the mountains. The eastern two thirds of Washington and Oregon are basically deserts, the Columbia River, and a few others. When the rain on the westside gets you down, you take an hour and a half drive to the east.

191 @121, I live across the river in Vancouver WA. Move here. It's not full of older homes like Portland, but there are more conservatives. And we need all the help we can get against Puget Sound.

It does rain but not constantly. You'll adjust.
