Good Lord: Co-Star of Robert Redford's "RatherGate" Claims Documents Were Actually All Real, But Corporate Employers CBS and Viacom Decided, for Some Strange Reason, to Bury the Truth

The co-star in question is an actor you've probably seen: Bruce Greenwood, the dull, WASPy actor who played Captain Pike in the Star Trek reboot.

He plays Mary Mapes' boss in the movie.

And he says that RatherGate was all too real, but the Corporate Media decided to throw poor Dan Rather and Mary Mapes to the right-wing blogger hounds, for... some reason. Money or something.

The incident "reflected poorly, ultimately, on CBS and Viacom who were unwilling to pursue the truth because there was legislation forthcoming that if they didn’t play ball with the [Bush] administration the legislation would have cost them millions and millions and millions of dollars," Greenwood says. "Rather than allow Mary Mapes and Dan Rather to support their story, they allowed this avalanche of right-wing resistance to swamp the real story."

Greenwood's take on Rathergate's fallout? Modern journalists are "under the thumb" of the powers that be, not the news cycle....

He complains that even Wikipedia has it wrong when it comes to Rathergate, according to his viewpoint.

"It's a reminder that if bull-expletive is repeated often enough it becomes perceived truth, conventional wisdom," he says.

Yes, like "Fake but Accurate," and your own movie, attempting to obscure what should be crystal clear.

Good God. Drooling, cretinous conspiracists everywhere.

But of course no one calls out the Left's brigades of conspiracists; they're just politely called promoters of a "Counter Narrative" or "Counter-Mythology."

Ace, you would have been correct maybe eight or ten years ago -- but by now, the leftists have finally achieved total control of

- the media

- academia
- the online Whine-o-sphere
- the air by which culture breathes.

The "counter-narrative" is now "the narrative."

We are the counter-narrative.

Massive leftist insanities and epic mendacities are these day simply accepted as normal, unquestioned. Ways of perceiving the world that should get one consigned to a rubber room are now commonplace, on their way to becoming de rigeuer.

Culture was splintered, by now it is being reconstructed by Marxist spiderbots, rivet by rivet.

But since no one is allowed to get poor marks, you get an A and a participation ribbon.

What I don't understand about this whole "free community college" thing i who the hell can't afford community college? Classes are like $100/credit hour. We aren't exactly talking big money here. It's just stupid. "Solving" a problem that doesn't exist.
Posted by: Lauren at January 20, 2015 07:09 PM (MYCIw)

Worse, it will inflate tuition prices further.

Community college, though still mostly affordable, has not escaped the tuition bubble. Twelve years ago when I was in high school, classes were $7 a unit at the local CCs in San Diego here. It's now in the $40s.

Subsidize something and artificially increase demand for it. Works to raise the price every time.

Wish to hell more of the country understood this.

For those that don't know him Chesterton was an English writer with a great love of life who wrote on theology, the arts and society. The man cited in media reports as having allegedly pressured others in the Texas Air National Guard to help George W. Bush is speaking out, telling ABC News in an exclusive interview that he never sought special treatment for Bush.
Retired Col. Walter Staudt, who was brigadier general of Bush's unit in Texas, interviewed Bush for the Guard position and retired in March 1972. He was mentioned in one of the memos allegedly written by Lt. Col. Jerry Killian as having pressured Killian to assist Bush, though Bush supposedly was not meeting Guard standards.

"I never pressured anybody about George Bush because I had no reason to," Staudt told ABC News in his first interview since the documents were made public.

352 ok...

President-elect Barack Obama asked President Bush today to request the release of the second $350 billion in federal bailout funds so he would have "ammunition" if the country's fragile economy weakened further.

The White House said that Bush has agreed to request the money.

Obama, speaking after a meeting with Mexican President Felipe Calderon, said it would be "irresponsible" to enter the White House without having asked Bush to request the funds. He called the cash "potential ammunition" in case the economy worsened.

The incoming president also signaled that he intends to "fundamentally change some of the practices" in the bailout program. Referring to how the first $350 billion of bailout cash was allocated, Obama said, "Many of us have been disappointed with the absence of clarity, the failure to track how the money's been spent."

Obama and Bush have teamed up to get the money released. Bush has agreed to request the funding, and Obama will lobby for it by arguing that he will "rebrand" the program and make better use of the money.

In a letter to congressional leaders, Obama's top economic adviser Larry Summers called the need for the second round of funds from the Troubled Asset Relief Program is "imminent and urgent."

In his letter, Summers said the money would be used for a "sweeping effort" to save homeowners threatened with foreclosure, and make the money available to small banks and businesses along with corporate giants.

"I have talked to the president-elect about this subject," Bush said at his farewell news conference today.

"I told him if he needed the $350 billion on my watch, I'd be willing to ask for it.. if he felt like it needed to happen on my watch," Bush said.

A short time later, Obama asked Bush to make the request official.

"This morning, President-elect Obama asked President Bush to formally notify Congress, on his behalf, of his intent to exercise the authority... to access the last tranche of $350 billion in funding for Treasury programs addressing the financial crisis," White House spokeswoman Dana Perino said. "President Bush agreed to the President-elect's request."

It's worse than that. The program mutated once it was in the hands of the Fed and the Treasury. The started a multiple programs underneath like TALF to stabilize currency trading groups, and ones that bailed out foreign banks for losses that supposedly wouldn't be bought under the original formulation.

Two books if'n you're interested:

Yep. That's how stupid he was - was revered on the right side of the blogosphere for breaking that story - and then moved to the far left, where nobody gave a shit about him and I'm sure very many distrusted him. I'm sure he thought it was a smart move when Obama was elected because the country was moving left, but no, he sank into obscurity. There are plenty of other lefty bloggers out there who have always been true to their cause - why would anybody want to jump on his bandwagon?

Really, before Rathergate, what made that place were the commenters, not Chuck. His own front page comments were minimal and he couldn't hold a candle to ace's writing. He was good at collecting a lot of interesting links about Israel - back when he cared about it.

Jharles was a paint by numbers Horrywood leftoid who was bitchslapped to reality by 9/11....he became a Neo-Connish blogger of some note and HATED that his commentariat was smarter and more versed in the war on terror and climate science than he was and self-loathed that he was now pro-security.

His groupies slowly converted him back to progtardism in 07-08....when Bronko passed HILLARY! he did a 180 openly and started playing "Night of the Sicilian Vespers" with the people who gave him the prestige he had.

Posted by: junior at January 20, 2015 08:29 PM (UWFpX)

431 Yep. That's how stupid he was - was revered on the right side of the
blogosphere for breaking that story - and then moved to the far left,
where nobody gave a shit about him and I'm sure very many distrusted
him.

We distrusted him because he'd go back and back-edit comments. That's why I left - it was a trivial conversation, but weird thing to do. And apparently it became a pattern.

Dude never actually wrote anything - and he relied heavily on commenters and other folks who've gone on to start their own successful blogs, or write. Zombie (comments here occasionally) from PJM used to contribute and did some really fantastic sleuthing. (still does).

It was when he sent his minions forth to do damage at other sites that he lost it all - eyes and marbles.

451 by the way, maybe not unrelated, I think out Gov Andrew Cuomo will want to run for Pres in 2016 and wants to set himself up as the "Qualified" answer to Fauxahontis Warren:

Citing "stubborn" economic and social problems that have "persisted for decades," Gov. Andrew Cuomo has proposed two separate minimum wage hikes for workers - one for the state and a more ambitious increase for New York City - and tax relief for small businesses as well as several more economic-related initiatives he hopes to have passed as part of this year's budget.

Under Cuomo's proposal, the state's minimum wage would be raised to $10.50 by the end of 2016. In New York City, Cuomo is proposing hiking the minimum wage to $11.50 because of the higher cost of living in the city compared to other areas in the state. If these hikes are approved, New York would have the highest state minimum wage in the country.

"It's too easy to say, 'Get a job,' " Cuomo said on Sunday. "You need to get a job, which means you need to have the training and skill to get the job, which means the job has to exist. When you get the job, the job has to pay enough that you can pay the rent, and you can pay for food, and it's a sustainable wage."

The wage hike is one part of Cuomo's so-called 10-point plan to combat poverty and inequality.

His initiative also includes student loan relief, doubling funding to tackle high unemployment in minority communities, investing nearly $500 million in affordable housing and more than $200 million in homeless services, and $4.5 million to battle hunger. The governor also proposed reducing the income tax rate for small businesses from 6.5 percent to 2.5 percent. The tax cut would drop over a three-year period starting in 2016. Small businesses that file under the corporate franchise tax would be eligible.

And as I mentioned earlier, I worked in the printing industry, and knew about kerning and actually had experience with the IBM Selectric Composer. It would have taken a hell of a lot of precision work to use 1970s technology to make an exact copy of a Microsoft Word document, and I doubt that even that would have been as close as the "throbbing memo" was.

And the running joke about the "th", not the magic typewriter key that may or may not have ever existed, is that default MS Word settings would superscript 'th' after a numeral, and WYSIWYG Windows wasn't quite WYSIWYG... you had print it for the 'th' to be at the same superscript elevation as shown in the Rather memos (screen cap was not quite WYSIWYG).
