RNC Members Skeptical of Romney, Preferring a More Charismatic, Youthful, Exciting Newcomer: Jeb Bush

You may take some comfort in the RNC's hostility to a presidential bid by Mitt Romney until you realize they're trying to edge Romney out to give Socialist Hero of the Donor Class Jeb Bush an unobstructed view of the nomination.

Kill me now. I swear to God, I'm moving to Costa Rica.

No, not "moving." Defecting.

Here are a couple of quotes from RNC members, quoted at Politico. Or, as they call it: POLITICO.

"Mitt Romney. He didn't run his campaign right against Obama. He flubbed it. Another Romney candidacy would be a complete disaster, and I don't think he’ll even get there," said Bill Eastland, a Republican party member from Texas…

One Republican strategist, who is hedging bets against candidates this early in the race and so wanted to speak on the condition of anonymity, said: "We hear he is getting his old team back. We are all really concerned because his old team didn’t do such a great job last time. Everyone I talk to says he had his chance, and his chance has gone. They are desperate for someone new. And what would he do different this time?"

I have a lot of affection for Romney -- I would up really liking him last go-'round-- but this last question is key. I didn't feel sold out by Romney on policy; I knew he was a squish chameleon who would say pretty much anything to please whatever ten voters he was standing in front of at any moment. I knew that; that was a loss leader going in.

Where I felt burned, however, was where Romney fell down in the area I expected him to perform very well: Tactics, execution, logistics, metrics. I vouched for this guy, saying over and over again, "He's the only candidate who's done his homework." But then, when the big project was due, his team turned in thrown-together piece of shit.

The other place I felt let down was his failure to deploy his nasty bladed elbows against Obama. Romney may be a nice guy in real life, but he's a pretty nasty competitor in a political contest, and he repeatedly used low tactics against his Republican competitors.

Eh, such is life. But, come the general election, I'm now thinking that killer instinct is a feature not a bug. But then he, of course, goes easy on Obama just like the last RINO we nominated, John "My Good Friend Barack Obama Only Wants What's Best for America" McCain.

I'm not completely hostile to Romney; unlike the donor class, I'd prefer him over Jeb "Act of Love" Bush.

But the big question here is, "What would be different?" And getting the band back together is not a good answer to that question.

The band sucks, Romney. It's time to fire the band and recruit another one.

Yeah. The key for me wasn't that he was a decent Governor, it was that he was a fantastic businessman.

Run one of the first VC firms. Build Staples. Turn around a corrupt and failing Olympics. He's the guy who could actually accomplish things.

Except for running a bare knuckles campaign when that was what was needed.

37 Said this at Patterico and I'll say it again here, The problem lies not in our politicians but in ourselves. The country is headed in the wrong direction not because crappy politicians get elected, but because the people like these crappy politicians. A democratic/republic society cannot be changed from the top down. The top is a reflection on what the people want. Actually, no society really changes top-down. The more the top pressures the people, the more the people fail because they have no buy-in on the plan. Such is why free societies work better than the alternatives. So-called conservatives should understand this but the refrain I see on damn near every blog and such is this hunger for power to change the people from above via politics.

226 "Your country's immigration laws at work"

What this article relates is bad, but it's not as infuriating as the plague of illegal alien DUI here in the States, which I swear is the unofficial national sport of Mexico.

No, I'm not talking about 0.08, two glasses of Chardonnay at dinner, forgot to use the turn signal DUI. I'm talking about 0.35 plus, no headlights, wrong way on the highway at night. Totally plowed to the point where many of these guys barely realize they're driving at all.

Victor Davis Hanson lives on a farm out in the part of rural Commiefornia where this is especially bad, and he writes that quite often now he is having to pay to have removed from the periphery of his property the wrecked unregistered beater cars crashed by drunk illegals after midnight. Plus repairing downed fences, absorbing crop damage costs, et cetera.

The crime stats are spotty on this, not helped by many crimes committed by illegals being kept off the books in various ways, and by the idiotic way the FBI crime stats lump felonies committed by Hispanics (legal or otherwise) under the rubric of "white".

But unofficially, it's a bad bad bad problem. If you can find an off duty cop who is willing to quietly talk, you'll hear stories. Not nice stories.

I am glad to be back to work serving the most dynamic Congressional district in the country and I look forward to continue supporting conservative fiscal policies of cutting spending, lowering taxes, and reigning in the federal government. This blueprint for long-term economic growth will create jobs, grow the economy, and help hardworking Americans take home more of their paychecks. This new Congress is energizing and I am excited to work with the Senate to provide conservative solutions as we combat the liberal agenda and the President's overreaching executive orders. You can be sure I will keep your strong views in mind as I fight for Central Texas and our conservative values.

And every single one of these debates will, you can be sure, moderated by career liberal Democratic operatives posing as "nonpartisan, objective, neutral" moderators.

I remember my jaw literally falling open when Obama, debating Romney, and on the back foot with Benghazi having been brought up as a subject, *ordered* the moderator to step in on his side, telling Candy Crowley to "get the transcript".

Romney should have immediately halted his participation in the debate at that point and should have said why. And asked questions. How came it that Crowley had a copy of the transcript on her person? How came it that Obama knew she had one? And since when do supposed "moderators" act as partisan fact checkers?

Or maybe not.

Think of it, either one of China or India could immigrate to and take majority % in any western country.

Same with south america and the USA but they don't care.

I don't get when we decided this was ok because it's not.

Yes, precisely so.

But if the Clintons had realized Obama would get that far, they would have had their formidable oppo machine dialed up to eleven much earlier, and they would have been pushing and leaking damaging oppo background on Obama.

Not themselves personally, of course. Above the fray and all that. They'd have done it through every cut-out, front, bagman and intermediary in Clintonland.

Obama would never have reached the point where things like caucuses and superdelegates would be material.

323 The "donor class" is obviously a metaphor for mouth breathing retards.

Here's
the part that kills me. We pick on liberals for their empty headed,
illogical misadventures they call "policy". We do that, not just because
they are based on fallacy, but because any sane person can predict how
they will end- miserably.

On the other hand, Republicans have
"the donor class". A bunch of self interested individuals who are
generally single issue people' They don't want to see the big picture.
They are rich ostriches with their heads in the sand and asses in the
wind. They want one thing and don't care about anything else.

But somehow that's more logical?

It's not and meanwhile the party members get lip service on issues, bad choices (or what I call "no choice) like Jeb, when we all clearly know the guy can't win.

But "donor class!" or something. Ugh, we need a Republican coupe d'etat and a guillotine.

Right now, Romney, Bush, and Christie are sucking up all the oxygen in the room, and all the commitments. I wish someone I liked would step forward, so all of us who want someone more in line with us could support him before it's too late to get in. I think Walker may commit soon, and he'd be good enough for me. Thoughts?

A number of Indians have told me that they were terrified at the speed that Americans drive and it took a while to get used to it. The fear was based largely on the poor state of maintenance of many vehicles in India. They expect the wheels to come off or the steering linkage to break at any moment like they do back home but that is less of a problem at 25 mph than at 70 mph.

When was the last time you heard Jeb Bush say anything critical of Obama and the Democrats? Maybe he does that occasionally, but he seems to spend most of his time bashing conservatives.

He didn't have one in Wisconsin either. Three times.

Walker's lack of an increasingly dubious educational credential (ask Insty) will highlight the arrogant elitism of the Democrats, especially Hillary. That arrogance is pretty off-putting.

Any political consultant worth hiring should be able to easily make that a positive out of that. ("Scott Walker knows what it means to struggle for a college degree and so he can better relate to blah...blah...blah... Obama's got lots of college degrees. How'd that work out for you?")

Romney at the very least seemed to never embrace the open borders nonsense, he actually had a better record than Perry on illegals (vetoing DREAM Act type nonsense in deep blue Massachusetts, Perry telling people they were heartless, etc) But Jeb Bush is absolutely obsessed with an Amnesty deal.

Also, maybe it's not fair, but the Bush dynasty thing is going to turn off voters.

I really think the Romney, Christie, Jeb slugfest is going to provide a big opening to a Scott Walker candidacy for President, so conservatives should be happy.

If the media and the Clintons make too much of it, you really could see a populist revolt break towards Walker. The GOP does really well when it connects with the "man on the street" instead of trying to impress people in a boardroom.

Also, I'm much more comfortable taking a gamble on Walker, he has the record and displayed he can win even in a blue state. I absolutely could not say the same for Romney's rivals in 2012, they were all fatally flawed candidates. There just wasn't a more conservative alternative.

Just noting that the Bush family loves Ronald Reagan, and hates everything he championed.

In 1980 Reagan wanted to abolish the Department of Education. He made eloquent speeches about the vital purpose of local and state control of education. It was a fundamental conservative argument that people could understand.

Twenty years later, George W. Bush pulled the rug out from under those conservatives and launched an unprecedented nationalizing of education with Ted Kennedy's No Child Left Behind.

Jeb Bush was an architect of the plan to take nationalizing of education beyond standards, and into actual curriculum: Common Core.

Reagan didn't oppose just making education a matter of federal policy, he didn't want it as part of the debate over who to elect to federal office. The Bushes saw the opening that liberals created and exploited it. And in one generation they've turned the GOP 180 degrees on a bedrock principle.

The Bush family sells off conservative principles like family heirlooms to finance their grasp for power. Enough.

I get why it happened, Reagan was basically thought of as a Bircher, so it made sense to balance the ticket with a more New England Republican and that faction, but he was such a piss poor candidate on so many levels.

I doubt Bush Sr won a single state for Reagan in either election, and in fact, probably dragged him down a bit.

484 Btw Ace, there is a interesting article from a "social justice" professor ridiculing a left-wing History professor's history of Obama. It's a blunt peek into the Marxist viewpoint disparaging neutral interpretations of History, and promotion of History as a political propaganda tool. Nothing surprising, but his candid advocacy in public was a fascinating admission of the Left's use of history to advance their plans.

I try to post excepts, but apparently I'm doing it wrong; so it won't post. The article is titled: "No, Obama is Not Black Jesus" in the Daily Beast on Jan18th. Also note his comments on Unions and class warfare. Thought you'd find it interesting.
