Miffed at Washington Post's Decision to Post Charlie Cover, Al Qaeda Breaks Up With That Newspaper
The WaPo had had an Al Qaeda source. Now that source has called them up to say things aren't working out.
However, the NYT and AP still have their Al Qaeda sources.In further related news: Well this time a driver deliberately drove into a cop right outside the French President's palace. You may remember that several drivers had run into French crowds shouting "Alluha Akbar" just before Christmas. On Seth Myers' horrible show, Bill Clinton spoke out about the "world's greatest double standard."
"An individual who has claimed to represent [al Qaeda] and who has previously provided statements and other information to The Washington Post said he would no longer do so because of the paper’s decision to publish the first post-attack cover of Charlie Hebdo, released this week," the Post said. In contrast, separate stories by the New York Times and the Associated Press indicate that those two news outlets remain in touch with an al Qaeda source. Unlike the Post, the AP and the Times have declined to republish the Charlie Hebdo cartoons that mock Muhammad, asserting that the cartoons are offensive to Muslims.
"You read the profile of the two guys most prominently involved in the killing and how they got sucked into this by somebody essentially using religion and religious politics to advocate the world’s greatest double standard," Clinton told the late night host. "If you come to our country, we won't let you worship the way you want. We won’t let you say what you want. They won't let you do what you want to do," Clinton continued. "However we have come to your country, therefore we have a right to do whatever we want to do, including kill you if you make us mad." "It's just madness," the former president said.In 2011, MSNBC and its subsidiary NBC News had no problems with Rachel Maddow showing the "Piss Christ" on her show; but now, they of course forbid her to offend the delicate religious sensibilities of Muslims. And fat little girl Chris Hayes says it's just turribul that France has voted overwhelmingly to increase the tempo of its attacks on Al Qaeda in Syria and Iraq.

What you are talking about is risk management. On an individual level, protecting yourself from crazy people is a good idea. On a society level, cowtowing to a bunch of crazies is a bad idea. Also, if everyone snubs the crazy people, it creates less risk for individuals, I think.
The other thing is that a woman making herself especially vulnerable might *create* a problem where there would not have been one otherwise - easy prey and all that. I don't think not printing a cartoon or criticism creates a problem - it is a reflection of one that already exists.

I really want to discuss this.
The two aren't directly comparable.
When we tell women (especially young women) to obey some common sense rules, we're not telling them *not* to have fun.
We're not telling them "don't drink." We're telling them "don't get drunk around people you don't know."
That is, we are not telling them that they have to live by our set of rules, we're giving them guidelines within their set of rules that will minimize their risk.
OTOH, for the Mohammedans, they *are* telling people to change the rules under which they live. For them, it's not (to extend a metaphor here) "don't get drunk around people you don't know," but "Feel free to get drunk around everyone but me, and if you get drunk around me I *will* rape you."
They have no problem with people mocking other religions- it is not some blanket defense of "religion" (semi-OT: the current Pope is a moron, and not in the good way), it is an excuse to kill a specific infidel (or set of infidels).
Further, there is no argument that we *should* stop rape. There is no argument that it *should* be safe for women to walk alone in poorly lit parks at night. There is no argument that it *should* be safe for women to get drunk around strangers.
Mohammedans and their apologists assert that it *should not* be safe to mock Mohammedism. They assert not just that you *will* be raped (to use the metaphor), but that you *should be*.

Good points. I would also say that risk management has nothing to do with fault. A woman who gets drunk around the wrong person is not at fault for the rape, nor is someone who prints these cartoons at fault if they are murdered.

I think that it is a matter of picking the correct analogy.
Rather than a woman getting drunk in public, publishing the Charlie Hebdo cover is more like inoculation. If everybody in the western press publishes the cover, the risk is spread and the message is sent that terrorism has been ineffective. There is still risk, but the risk of any one publication is minimized.
When everybody is inoculated against a disease, there is a herd immunity that happens. Even if the immunization does not work perfectly, the chances of anyone contracting the disease is reduced because there are not enough vulnerable people in the population for the disease to spread to the ones who are vulnerable. There is a small risk of bad reaction to the inoculation itself and some people will suffer from that bad reaction. From a society standpoint, the total damage done is less than if the whole community is immunized. In order to avoid that small risk from inoculation, some people will attempt to free ride and benefit from the herd immunity without taking the small risk of bad reaction to inoculation. If the group of free riders is small, there is no big problem. If there are too many free riders, there is no herd immunity and everybody is at greater risk of the disease.

It was basically the same vein as Clinton, oh these poor people come from disadvantaged backgrounds, had a tough life, made some "bad choices" and just happened to start ruthlessly murdering people in the name of faith. No mention of the premeditation, including terrorist training and surreptitious planning with AQ, because, you know, that would show they actually thought about this for some time and planned it. i.e they made an intellectual decision to carry it out.
But I thin we can all agree they had a legitimate grievance or something...says nobody.

Except I didn't do that at all. I said - 5 times already - during Clinton's second term the economy was on fire and I made a shit ton of money. And to suggest that the economy wasn't on fire during that time is ridiculous.
I had 5 job offers before graduation. And could have had 5 more had I bothered interviewing with more companies. And everyone I knew was in the same boat, basically dictating the terms of employment with our employers.

We can't go out at all and are essentially prisoners in this little condo. We have cut everything down to the bare essentials, but inflation is rapidly destroying what little money we have. I've has two heart attacks and a double bypass from the stress. That's just the tip of the iceberg of the suffering that progressive bastard has inflicted upon me and my family. And now his wife wants to continue their legacy.

What programs are killing the economy? Dodd-Frank ring a bell? Scorched earth on the financial sector? Any specific programs Obama has put in place? Spending? Stimulas? The answer is no. In 2012 136,000 NEW H1B visas were issued...
This is ABOVE the 1 Million normal Legal Immigrants.
Since that time, tech wages have been stagnant, not even keeping up with inflation... and the most of the computer training companies are now out of business (as companies were no longer willing to pay to get people trained, they just hired from outside the US).
Governmental Policies do not affect the economy immediately.... the pain takes a few years to be felt...

Clinton signed 2 pretty significant tax cuts during his term. He also signed welfare reform which was huge.
He didn't inherit anything from contract with america. He had to sign into law all those items. And he did. That's my point. He worked with Newt and got a lot of the CWA stuff done.
It's amazing how the economy of the late 90s had nothing to do with Clinton, but every single person who has lost a job since 2009 is 100% because of Obama. Incredible how that shit works huh?

The recovery from the end of Bush's term stopped.
In 1994 the Republicans fought Clinton over the budget and in a year or so the economy took off.
Clinton intentionally modified his previous leftwing economic policies as part of his "triangulation"
In 2006 the economy was roaring. The Democrats, including Obama, took over Congress and largely got President Bush to go along with their economic policies.
Within a year the economy cratered.
Obama was elected to the presidency in 2008. Things got worse. The Republicans took the House in 2010, but have done almost nothing since then.
The economy is one of the worst in American history with labor participation rates unheard of in recent history - even compared to the 2006-8 time frame.
Let's talk about blame and credit. Clinton changed his policies because of electoral losses and the economy improved. Obama refused to change his policies and the economy has continued to be devastated.
The only objective way to review data this is that Clinton should only be credited with not finding an innovative way to force through his failed policies, and Obama should get the blame for the current depression.

Haven't watched it. Read an article a few months ago about SNL and it was noted that Seth Meyers in particular was one of the ones who actively made the show, especially his news skit, much more pro-Left politically.

I remember reading that in a meeting with his economic advisers, Clinton found that they explained every leftist nostrum he proposed would have bad economic effects. Since James Carville was running Clinton's political operation on the basis of "It's the Economy Stupid", Clinton found himself continuing the Reaganomics policies of his predecessors in order to remain in office.
Obama, pretty obviously, has not continued the economic policies of Reaganomics, adding taxes and regulations and doing so in a capricious manner that makes long term planning difficult for businesses and investors. Economic activity is down, employment is down but money has been dumped into Wall Street which makes one part of Obama's coalition happy.
