Islam Means "Submission," and So Does Liberalism
One problem with liberalism has always been that those promoting it are, and largely have been, cowards.
The creed is not inherently cowardly; in fact, most if it is brave. (Don't jump on me; I'm talking about "liberalism" as it is classically understood. American conservatives, per this classical understanding, are called "conservative liberals," but because the creed of liberalism is dominant in America, the "liberal" part is left off as unnecessary, as it's understood.) But a lot of the people championing it are morally uncertain and physically weak types. This has caused liberalism to be associated in the world with vacillation, compromise, and cowardice. A knew someone who once told me he despised liberals as cowards. So you're conservative?, I asked. "No," he replied. "Communist." And that is the knock on liberalism. Other creeds are dark, stupid, and murderous, but they appeal to young men because they seem to be espoused by strong men, rough men, ready men. And liberalism, meanwhile, is mostly a collection of pious platitudes mouthed by sissies. And again, this is not the fault of the creed; this was Washington's creed. This was Lincoln's. Instead, it is the fault of the creed's messengers, who seem to have decided that liberalism is offended by a display of masculine balls and fire, when in fact it absolutely requires it. And then the cadre of liberals shrinks still further, and more academic types become full-blown leftists and communists, and more foreign Muslims embrace full-on medieval sharia Islamism, and the liberals wonder, "Why?" Last night I had an extraordinary conversation with an acquaintance.
This woman I only know slightly, is in her late 30s-ish, works in the same field as me, got to chatting after a recent conference-type event, and is your typical default Bay Area white liberal -- not overly aggressive about it, just assumes that being liberal is the only natural state of humankind, and has likely never met or spoken to a conservative, and in general lives in unquestioning liberal la-la land (when she bothers to think of politics at all, which isn't that often).
Anyway, somehow the conversation drifted to "education" as a topic, and she recounted the following jaw-dropping anecdote:
- A friend of hers volunteered as a tutor for underprivileged high school students, and roped my acquaintance into volunteering as well, which she did because "she wanted to give back to the community" and all the other predictable progressive tropes.
Anyway, I won't torment you by detailing the conversation's facts in the exact jumbled order she presented them, but the summary, reordered chronological to make sense, goes like this:
- At public schools nowadays, most kids that do badly in class are "diagnosed" with some kind of "learning disability" -- be it ADHD or "dyscalcula" (that's a new one to me) or dyslexia or whatever. No one is ever deemed "dumb" or simply "bad at school" anymore -- getting bad grades is almost ALWAYS chalked up to a "medical condition" that results in "not being able to pay attention or concentrate."
- The school districts encourage and just LOVE it when students get these diagnoses, because once so diagnosed, the student then is instantly classified as "disabled" -- which means the school district gets MOAR MONEY from the federal Department of Education.
- In some schools, the number of "disabled" students is incredibly high -- 20%, 30%, 40% or more.
- The vast majority of these "disabled" students are (got to be frank here) black or hispanic.
- The school districts take that Fed money and are required to use part of it to arrange for free tutors for any disabled students.
- In extreme cases (i.e. cases in which the student is truly mentally retarded), the district hires actual professional tutors. But in most cases, wherever possible with these semi-bogus diagnoses, they set up a system for do-gooder volunteers to do the tutoring. (And then the Fed money goes to "administration," i.e. lining heir own pockets, rather than actually paying the tutors. But this is a side issue and not the main point of what she was talking about.)
- So my acquaintance had a typical experience: As a volunteer tutor, she was assigned to be the tutor and mentor to one particular student for the entire semester. In other words, you don't tutor 10 different "disabled" students each for one hour per week -- you tutor the same single student for 10 hours a week, for the whole semester. You become like a "team."
- In my acquaintance's case, she was paired with a 17-year-old black girl who was a senior at a Bay Area public high school. From their very first meeting, the girl basically said she was completely incapable of doing her homework assignments, and asked the tutor to just do all the assignments for her. Not help with the assignments, but just do them entirely as the girl "watched and learned."
- This went on for several weeks, and my acquaintance tried in vain to transition the girl into participating in the completion of the homework assignments, but instead of getting more involved, the girl over time got less involved. She would just show up, hand the tutor her homework, tell her to do it, and then say "I have to leave and go do stuff" and tell the tutor to just drop off the completed homework at the school's disabled students room for the girl to pick up the next morning.
- As the semester progressed, my acquaintance began to feel that she has simply become nothing more than a private servant to the girl, an "academic slave" who just does the all of the girl's school work for her, no questions asked, no learning involved.
And here is where the story really became hair-raising.
- After many weeks of this, the tutor would try to encourage the girl to get involved, and every time she tried, the girl incrementally became more confrontational, and threatened to "report" the tutor to the administration for "not doing her job." This was unnerving enough, but after one exasperated attempt to make the girl participate in her own homework assignments, the girl played the race card, and said she thought the tutor wasn't helping her enough because the girl was black, and therefore the tutor "just didn't care." And she threatened to tell the administration that the tutor refused to help the girl because the tutor was a racist.
- As a consequence of this threat, my acquaintance became completely paralyzed with fear -- because being accused of racism is a progressive's worst nightmare. So the girl now had my acquaintance tied around her little finger. A pecking order had been established, and the girl now knew she could make the tutor do ANYTHING, lest the racism threat be unleashed again.
- So, at their next meeting, the girl brought college application packets, gave them en masse to the tutor and told her to fill them out in the girl's name, "and you'd better get me in to these colleges, or it'll be your fault."
- So my acquaintance then spent three weeks filling out college application forms and fraudulently writing admissions essays, and doing 100% of the work to get the girl into college. (They weren't top colleges due to the girl's poor grades, but they were just barely above the category of schools she could conceivably be admitted to.)
- One night, the girl called and woke up my acquaintance at 1:30am, at home, and yelled at her for not completing the college applications forms fast enough. There were people in background on the phone egging her on to escalated heights of verbal abuse.
- My acquaintance felt absolutely trapped -- she felt that if she tried to quit or wriggle out of the situation, she would be publicly accused of racism, and her reputation would be ruined.
Now all of this is bad enough, but the kicker came at the end:
- Eventually, after finishing the college applications, she got up the nerve and just abruptly quit the tutoring program, and never saw or spoke to the girl again. Thankfully, the threats of racism were never leveled -- they were just empty threats to manipulate the tutor. When my acquaintance later spoke to other people in the volunteer tutor program, including the friend that originally got her involved, she was told that her experience was typical, and that yes, you ARE expected to just do all their work for them. What did you think this was about? And that the other (white) tutors have similar experiences but accept the situation as a form of personal reparations to alleviate their white guilt, and no one had really ever complained before. And yes, completing their college applications is also usually part of the deal. The girl student knew this -- she had been told by friends at school what she could demand of the tutor.
And the final coup de grace that had my jaw on the floor:
- Over the course of many conversations, my acquaintance eventually came to understand that a substantial percentage of "disabled" students across the country get this same "level" of "private tutoring," and that many of them graduate from high school and get into college based mostly (or entirely) on work done for them by their free private tutors. And that this goes on in every major urban city across the country, every day, and is just the now-standardized system set up to allow progressive whites to "give back" to "disadvantaged youth" by essentially doing all their school work for them.
At this stage, I really don't know what to say any more.

Now look at Islam. We need post-modern Islam to succeed, because the post-modern Muslims are the ones who aren't cutting off heads and jailing journalists. But post-modern religion just isn't appealing to people who aren't inclined to functional atheism; it does not offer a compelling (or even coherent) worldview.
The post-modern West bows and scrapes before these butchers; what possible reason could they find in their own philosophy to change sides?

First, it's more correctly called neo-liberalism. It is indeed mostly defined by cowardice. You can tell it's a weak philosophy by how its adherents proliferate it: through lies, half-truths, manipulation, surreptitious actions and in the case of Obama- outright totalitarian action.
For years they've plied people with their lies, corrupting the language and playing both the victim and benefactor. "We're like you, the aggrieved masses. The downtrodden, the abused.
Then when they get power they ignore the auspices of democracy and tradition to inflict that utopian vision upon everyone- no matter what they cost.

I doubt very much that the situation is that ridiculous at every urban school district. I've known people who teach at urban districts in Michigan. The situation is bad, but there is an effort to help the kids. I've never heard of a situation where kids just hand their work over to tutors to do for them. In Michigan, LD students are given the standardized tests, and it is in the district's best interest to at least try to get them to improve.
However, I don't doubt that white, liberal volunteer tutors would be cowed by black kids who know exactly how to manipulate white liberals that they view as weak and pathetic.

Catholicism is still the largest denomination by a country mile (51%) with the only other belief system even coming close being "atheism" at 31%. Protestant denominations combined are pushing 7% at best. Frighteningly, Islam is 4% all by its lonesome.

I'm no PETA fan, but I've seen some pretty awful stuff on undercover videos of hog farms. One showed two workers throwing a newborn hog back and forth like a football; it was squealing in pain and fear as they threw it, dropped it, kicked it, etc., while laughing like sadistic loons. Also showed workers torturing hogs with electric prods for fun. It was stomach-churning stuff. If Chipotle saw stuff like that going on at their pork vendor, they were right to stop doing business with them.

Seems plausible, at least. When I was in grad school, I was a TA for freshman chemistry, which meant study sessions to go over the homework with them. The one black student I had was an engineering major. The problem was, he couldn't do even the most basic algebra; he was absolutely lost when it came to balancing equations, solving for X, etc. I'd have loved to help, but there simply wasn't time to teach the chemistry material and give him a crash course in algebra. He dropped out of the class quickly.

Something similar to that is why I left my Lutheran church some years ago.
There was a local Muslim group which was looking for a place to hold their services or whatever it is they do. The pastor of our church offered our sanctuary to them. Rent free. Well, yes, it seems her liberal faith was "shaken," but not to the extent of being overturned or reversed. She recounted the story in horror, but then sort of trailed off, and it seems that she basically just sort of retreated to an apolitical fetal position in her mind. Like a sort of numbed paralysis in which further thoughts can not be allowed to occur.

Maybe we should. If you are not Muslim then you are ipso facto guilty of blasphemy. You cannot reject Islam without branding Mohammed as a blatant fraud. Anything less than embracing Islam makes you eligible for summary murder, and if your brand of Islam deviates in any respect from the the extremists then you will be killed.
I agree that we need to stand up to Muslims that believe that other thinking people are infidels deserving slaughter. I think that anybody that thinks that God has ordained them to slaughter others with differing beliefs needs to be slaughtered.
It's actually pretty easy: anyone who believes God has given them license to kill needs to be killed.
Men have reason to kill, but God's will is never part of it.
