What Does It Mean?

What does it mean.

What could Charlie Hebdo new cover art, possibly mean?

How could this obvious caricature of an islamist malefactor possibly be absolved of these terrible murders?

Oh.
Because we have already established that actual real world evil can be addressed and disposed of with mopey faces and cardboard twitter signs.

Yes, America. This is Europe mocking your vapid, insincere leaders. And we deserve it.

It is also a big F*** YOU to the entire 'je suis charlie' movement, to the extent that it is a transient fad to most people.

All you have to do now to be one of the cool kids who REALLY CARES about a catastrophe is to post a picture of yourself making a super-sad face and holding a sign that says, 'bring back our girls,' or 'je suis charlie.' And hold the pose for one day.

The bloody, tattered wreck that remains of Charlie Hebdo still has the strength to call out the fashionable on their insincerity. This is not pseudo-satire, as some idiot wannabe snobs would claim. This is the real deal. They are straight-out calling an asshole, an asshole.

More, From Drew M:
“We vomit on all these people who suddenly say they are our friends,” Charlie Hebdo cartoonist Bernard Holtrop.

30 I think the cover was purposefully as innocuous and inoffensive as possible. It portrays Muhammad in a positive light, like he's some peace-loving hippie.

Therefore the only possible reason to *not* publish this cover is to observe Islamic blasphemy laws and Sharia prohibitions on images of Muhammad.

Charlie cleverly forced every Western publication to make a choice on whether to publish news -- or cave to Islamic blasphemy laws.

Smart move.

The Guardian was among those to carry the front page on its website, while the Telegraph.co.uk cropped part of the design to remove the depiction of Islam's prophet. Others including Sky News chose not to repeat the image.

The thing is seriously genius! At the same time it's making fun of all the phoney support, it's done in a way where the people that are being made fun of don't even realize that that's what they're doing!

I feel a little bad about the people who really just want to try to show sympathy for these guys though. some may be fair-weather friends, but at least they're not saying "Screw you guys - you asked for it" the way some people have.

Frankly I have no idea who they make fun of anymore, because they stopped being funny a few years ago. Which is probably in part because the network is run by a bunch of leftists. So yeah, I suppose they might have caved. Or they simply stopped putting any real time or effort into making shows, and continue to cash network checks.

Personally, I don't care who they make fun of, as long as the fun contains some funny.

The cover shows a weeping Muhammad, holding a sign saying "I am
Charlie" with the words "All is forgiven" above him. Zineb El Rhazoui, a
journalist with the newspaper, described the cover as meaning that the
journalists were forgiving the extremists for the killings.
Renald
Luzier, the cartoonist who drew the cover image and who is known by his
pen name "Luz," said it represents "just a little guy who's crying."
Then he added, unapologetically, "Yes, it is Muhammad."

It's basically meaningless. No real thought put into it. Just a drawing that really makes no sense. The journalists are forgiving the terrorists but the journalists are represented by Mohammed? Makes no sense. They are grief stricken so I understand why it doesn't make sense.

There are very good reasons for cultures to exist. Peaceful, like-minded people have a right to live among each other without the threat of violent aggression. When an outside group threatens that peace, they have the right to remove the threat using whichever means best insures that peace. It could be negotiations or something different.

Cultural suicide is inviting in those who refuse to assimilate or abide by the laws of the land. Europe and now us have been infested by those who believe the lie that all cultures are equal and equally good. Anyone with any sense knows that this is merely an excuse to destroy Western Civilization from within to take it over.

193 whenever liberals try to project like that, one of two things happen:

1. the mean conservative poopy head becomes the hero (Rorschach)

194 I think you've got the interpretation wrong. The caricature is of Mohammad. He's holding a "je suis Charlie" sign, and has a tear in his eye. HE is the one saying ""All is forgiven". It's like Mohammad is saying, "I know you've ridiculed and insulted me in the past, but even I can't stay mad at you after this atrocity on the part of my followers". It's in line with an earlier CH cartoon showing Mohammad saying "It really sucks to be loved by morons". Think it over and look at the cover again - it makes sense.

197 the cover was a call to forgive the terrorists who murdered her colleagues last week

Speaking of media bias, read any article pretaining to violent crime and you willl note the pressure to censor the survivors and the victims' families. You'll see terms like, "accepting the verdict", moving forward" and healing process. The word "closure" is worked to death.
There is an intense amount of bullying going on amidst efforts to allow only certain phrases into print.

The relentless, asinine theme of "revenge solves nothing" is repeated ad nauseum in TV shows and movies. As if any significant percentage of the murders in the US are "revenge" related.

In my opinion what this means is mostly insignificant bleating of sheep. Yes, I agree that it's good that they had the march and expressed some outrage, but at the end of the day, and the news cycle, I don't think it accomplishes much. We've seen this before, and in much bigger ways.
If 9/11, Boston, Ft Hood, London, etc. didn't cause the scales to fall off of eyes, then lighting a few more candles, marching, and building makeshift shrines to those murdered this time does nothing to afford any additional protection from these savages.
What these savages understand and respect is pure violence. That's all they will respect. And I don't mean a few select targets here and there. I'm talking about all out war until they cry mercy - then hit them hard again and dare them to stick their heads up.
But you and I know that will not happen. We are far too civilized for that. Our modern civilization is a suicide pact and all we can do is debate how we want to go out.

Noonan's blog over at the WSJ:

Lafayette, We Are Not Here

a play on

To formally acknowledge the deep sympathy we feel that France, our oldest ally, suffered in the Charlie Hebdo murders a psychic shock akin to what America felt and suffered on 9/11/01. The day after our tragedy, the great French newspaper Le Monde ran an unforgettable cover with an editorial of affection and love titled Nous sommes tous Americains: "We are all Americans." That was an echo of what our American doughboys, who went to France in 1917 to save it, famously said as they landed: "Lafayette, we are here." Gen. Lafayette had been our first foreign friend and fought alongside Washington when we needed friends, in 1776. Is it sentimental to note this? Great nations run in part on sentiment.

Put another way, this is Charlie Hebdo saying, "Screw you, terrorists, we're still here and look who's standing with us!" In general, I think the cover is a dig at Muslims of every stripe, because they let this happen.

What I can't conceive, and what makes me so pessimistic, is that on 9/11 we watched, live on TV, thousands die the most brutal deaths anyone could imagine. We watched it all play out. We saw people burned to death, jump to their deaths and splatter on the concrete below. We sawpeople crushed to death and die in planes used as missiles. We saw our landmarks attacked and people running through the streets in mindless fear. We saw the aftermath and the grieving of loved ones.

After all this, and much more carnage....well, here we are, still living in fear, still afraid to fight to win, still quaking in fear of being called racists, still afraid to show a freaking cartoon image of a centuries old pedophile, still reacting to the latest terror incident, still capitulating to those who want to kill us and alienating ANYONE who would stand up to protect us or speak the truth.

255 My favorite part was where the article linked said they weren't real satire because unlike Colbert who said snarky things a few feet from Bush at the correspondents dinner, the people at Charlie weren't speaking truth to power because islamophobia is easy. Saying this a week after 12 of them were executed for doing it would seem to belt the entire argument that they weren't tweaking the powerful.

Posted by: allenlou at January 13, 2015 01:11 PM (cLobe)

256 Eh, every last one of the Charlie staff is pretty much a raging, atheistic anarchist. The concept of forgiveness is probably not one they ponder much.

I think they're trying to piss off the Right by saying they forgive the killers, piss off the Muslims by publishing yet another image of Mohammed, (bonus points for the testicle turban and penis nose) and having him show "solidarity" with the infidels, all while mocking the whole "Je suis Charlie" movement.

263 I don't think that is what they meant. I think it is a picture of Mohammed and he is telling the people who caricatured him that all is forgiven. The tears show remorse for what his followers did and while he may have been angry for how he was mocked that it was a lesser crime than that committed by his followers.

Pretty tame and PC message but one that attempts to divide the enemy.
