Harvard Liberal Arts Faculty Freaks the F**k Out Over Obamacare Changes to their Health Insurance That They Themselves Agitated For

This will give you a weeping shadenboner and the extra weeping is for extra sexy.

WASHINGTON -- For years, Harvard's experts on health economics and policy have advised presidents and Congress on how to provide health benefits to the nation at a reasonable cost. But those remedies will now be applied to the Harvard faculty, and the professors are in an uproar.

Members of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, the heart of the 378-year-old university, voted overwhelmingly in November to oppose changes that would require them and thousands of other Harvard employees to pay more for health care. The university says the increases are in part a result of the Obama administration’s Affordable Care Act, which many Harvard professors championed.

...

"Harvard is a microcosm of what's happening in health care in the country," said David M. Cutler, a health economist at the university who was an adviser to President Obama's 2008 campaign. But only up to a point: Professors at Harvard have until now generally avoided the higher expenses that other employers have been passing on to employees. That makes the outrage among the faculty remarkable, Mr. Cutler said, because "Harvard was and remains a very generous employer."

Indeed, that makes this all underpants-stretching remarkable.

89 I think the funniest part of the article - and it's all knee-slapping hilarious -- has got to be this, which I saw pointed out on Twitter:

In many states, consumers have complained about health plans that limit their choice of doctors and hospitals. Some Harvard employees have said they will gladly accept a narrower network of health care providers if it lowers their costs. But Harvard's ability to create such networks is complicated by the fact that some of Boston's best-known, most expensive hospitals are affiliated with Harvard Medical School. To create a network of high-value providers, Harvard would probably need to exclude some of its own teaching hospitals. or discourage their use.

That is just fantastic. I can't even explain to you how much giddiness I feel.

Though this is a close second:

"Harvard employees want access to everything," said Dr. Barbara J. McNeil, the head of the health care policy department at Harvard Medical School and a member of the benefits committee. "They don't want to be restricted in what institutions they can get care from."

I guess I was naive about how academia worked, but man it was a pit of vipers from what my GF told me. For every 10 PHds graduating from Columbia (or Harvard or Yale) there's 1 professorship at Columbia. And they all want it and will do whatever it takes to get it even if it means sabotaging the other 9 along the way. And the relationships with non-tenured profs was the same since the non-tenured prof saw all the grad students are potential competition.

I was working at an evil bank at the time and thought, yikes, you guys are worse than anything I deal with.

199 You mean..... the tribe doesn't cut you in on all that sweet casino cash???

You should read about all the shenanigans native tribes do to make sure the group getting that cash is small.

I know one man who was full-blooded native to a tribe. When he was young the elders were sending kids out to get educations because they felt it would give kids the best chance at success.

Later when they started building casinos they cut out anyone who wasn't living on the tribal land a certain percentage of their growing up years.

So my full-blooded native acquaintance didn't get a cut because he did what the elders asked and got an education off-rez.

Missouri law doesn't require unanimity for an indictment.
Also, Missouri State Code § 540.310 prohibits grand jurors from disclosing any individual juror's vote.

This lawsuit is without merit. It's basically the ACLU (through the complaining juror) saying "we don't like the law, therefore we should be able to ignore it and do what we want."

The prosecutor did his job as the law requires. The grand juror doesn't have a valid claim against the prosecutor just because he/she doesn't agree with the outcome.

Wool socks, Birkenstocks and ugly as a mud fence made with manure. She went on and on about access for all and that we should all be employed by a large organization to deliver more efficient care. When her employer told her that all their primary care physicians were expected to average 6 minutes per patient visit including paperwork and to consistently average 10 patients per hour for the clinic day she went ballistic. She wasn't going to practice medicine that way etc, etc. Stupid bint.

Every beauty contest or acting role she won was, according to her, due to her merit -- and every beauty contest or acting role she lost was due to (drumroll) . . . raaaaacism!

Must be nice to go through life with a ready-made excuse for your every failure. You never fail at anything because somebody else was better looking, or more appealing, or more talented, or more qualified, or better prepared. Nope, anytime you fail at anything, it's always because of raaaacism!

Heh! I hear that!

In our little burg the medical community is largely driven by a Family Medicine Residency Program and an HMO mentality. In '08-'09 they were all about the "we use our brains, that's worth as much as the neurosurgeon using his hands", "we should be the gatekeepers", "medical home for everybody, access for all", "pay us more".

Now, with the current level of implementation of O-care they are running away from actual work. You cannot find an FP in this town who is taking new patients. They are doing "wallet biopsies" on the few new patients who do get in, heaven forbid you have Medicare or Medicaid. They hand all their sick patients off to the hospitalists. phrase of "contributing to society" or the nation or economy has been

work for the greater good and the notion is being forcefully foisted
on the nations consciousness. I, for one, am not here working to
benefit other people. I have myself and my family to take care and by
doing so this helps build a better society as a extra benefit. I do
plenty of other things as well but this idea we are all working for the

Especially when they think following their dreams, whatever the cost to

Quick & dirty:
Depends on where and what was used.
Fists in a bar fight in Texas is simple assault. Class A Misdemeanor. (or 3rd degree if against a "public servant")
Weapon - Aggravated assault - 2nd Degree Felony.
Other things apply to raise the seriousness.

428 I really do think ObamaCare is one of those gifts that's going to keep giving for Republicans for a while.

It probably would have been the best thing for Democrats had the Supreme Court struck it down early on. This is something that hits people every 4 weeks and reminds them what happens when "Big Government" tries to solve problems.

The only issue is, unless there's a Republican president, I don't see how we truly get rid of it. A President Hillary is not going to sign on for a full repeal and Republicans are going to have a hard time ever coming up with anything short of full repeal to explain to their base.

So in the meantime, there's this zombie policy that everyone hates but it seems there's no plausible path to get rid of it.

What is left out of the Palin explanation is that Palin said she came in halfway through someone elses'sconversation about Africa (probably the "unnamed McCain aides") and asked if they were discussing South Africa the country or southern Africa or something like that and that was turned into, "She thinks Africa is a country!!!11!1"

481 318 Missouri law doesn't require unanimity for an indictment.

I didn't know there was any state that did. Is there?
________________________

Not that I know of. But the grand juror here is apparently complaining that the Missouri GJ wasn't unanimous in its decision not to indict. It doesn't have to be. Missouri has grand juries of 12, and requires 9 to agree to indict, or there is no indictment. We don't know the vote in the Darren Wilson case; all we know is that there were not 9 votes to indict. Maybe the vote was 8-4, and the plaintiff juror is pissed because they were so close. Who knows? Point is, the grand juror doesn't have a valid cause of action (for a lawsuit against the prosecutor) simply because he/she is unhappy with the no-bill.

This is just the ACLU and the usual racial grievance-mongers trying to keep this issue in the spotlight longer. Hopefully, Missouri law has some serious penalties for a clearly frivolous lawsuit like this one.
